Defender Tactical Mini-Pro Lifter and Cartridge Arrestor System for Mossberg Shotguns

Thu, 05/02/2024 - 12:00

I’m a fan of mini shotgun shells like the Aguila Mini Shells and Federal Shorty Shells. I realize they have their limitations concerning range and power level compared to full-sized shells, but I think they’re still a viable option if you keep those things in mind. The biggest problem with mini shells is that they won’t cycle a semi-automatic shotgun, and many pump shotguns don’t feed them well either. Mossberg’s new 590S series shotguns are designed with a lifter assembly so that they feed minis right from the factory.

Video From Monday’s Charlotte Massacre of Law Enforcement Officers in Charlotte, NC [VIDEO]

Thu, 05/02/2024 - 08:00

On Monday afternoon, a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force attempted to apprehend a career felon, Terry Clark Hughes. Usually the Marshals get their man, even violent fugitives like Hughes. Unfortunately, on this day the 39-year-old Hughes saw them coming.

In the end, the career felon shot and killed four law enforcement officers attempting to take him into custody (again) for a felon in possession of firearms. He wounded at least four other officers before he was shot dead.

Senator Announces Resolution To Stop Biden Admin’s Export Ban

Wed, 05/01/2024 - 16:00

We just reported on Monday about the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) planning to make the Biden Administration’s “temporary” export ban a permanent policy. Now, a U.S. Senator is making plans to skuttle the BIS scheme.

On Tuesday, Republican U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee announced plans to file a Congressional Review Act (CRA) Resolution of Disapproval to block the interim Final Rule.

At issue is the supposed 90-day pause—it had already reached more than 180 days—that severely restricts the ability of American firearm, ammunition and related component manufacturers to obtain a license to export their products for sale.

Cimarron US Cavalry 1873 Revolver: A Great Take on the Colt Peacemaker

Wed, 05/01/2024 - 12:00

The Colt Single Action Army revolver is probably the most recognizable handgun ever, and its silhouette has graced the big screen in the holsters of heroes and villains, both real and imagined. Colt has been making the SAA off and on since 1873. Over the last several decades, replica makers and major manufacturers have spun their own versions. While that distinctive outline and general operation has remained the same, the SAA has undergone many minor changes since it was first introduced.

US Supreme Court Distributes Multiple Illinois Gun Ban Challenges for a May 16th Conference

Wed, 05/01/2024 - 10:00

The US Supreme Court announced Tuesday that several Illinois cases seeking a writ of certiorari to the court have been distributed to members of the court for a May 16th conference. This is the first sign that the members of the court might take action to remedy a legal insurrection taking place at the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Last fall, a three-judge panel of the federal Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 to ignore the Heller and Bruen SCOTUS decisions.

A Quick Lesson From A Tennessee Home Invasion

Wed, 05/01/2024 - 08:00

A few days ago near Nashville, Tennessee, a particularly dumb criminal managed to catch some hot lead. After trying multiple times to get into the home and hearing the occupants threaten to shoot him should he get through, he kept f-ing around and ended up finding out:

While details aren’t yet available, what we do know is that this was a situation that went on for some time, perhaps for minutes.

Governor’s Inaction Means Maine Gun Purchasers Will Have To Contend With Waiting Period

Tue, 04/30/2024 - 16:00

A 72-hour-waiting period for lawful gun purchasers who have already passed the federal background check will take effect in Maine 90 days after the adjournment of the current legislative session.

Despite an abundance of public input against the measure, Gov. Janet Mills neither signed nor vetoed the measure, allowing it to go into effect without her signature.

“Maine residents elected the Governor to make hard decisions, and she took the cowardly way out and allowed a terrible, unconstitutional bill to go into law,” a legislative update by Gun Owners of Maine stated.

Top Reasons AR-15s Should Never Be Banned

Tue, 04/30/2024 - 14:00

Writer Conor Jameson on United Liberty, an oddly random website with interesting article topics that hum with a slightly click baity, AI-written vibe, took on a topic near and dear to many of our TTAG readers with the title, “13 Reasons the AR-15 Should Never Be Banned.” While the strict constitutionalists among our ranks will point to only one very significant reason, “it goes against our Constitution,” Jameson makes a good argument with his other 12 reasons, though he also points out in his intro, he believes No.

ATF’s Poorly Trained ‘Operators’ Are a Threat to Public Safety

Mon, 04/29/2024 - 16:00

Selection, training and leadership are vital to any special operations team, regardless of their size or mission parameters. The more rigorous the selection process, the more comprehensive the training, the more professional the leadership, the better the unit will perform.

Delta Force’s Operators Training Course, for example, is six months long, and teaches advanced CQB, precision marksmanship, counterterrorism and a host of esoteric skills needed by Delta operators to meet their worldwide mission requirements.

Commerce Department Makes “Temporary” Export Pause Permanent

Mon, 04/29/2024 - 14:00

We’ve covered the Biden Administration’s firearms temporary export ban and how it is an unjustified attack on America’s firearms industry. Now, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is making that 90-day pause a permanent policy.

On April 26, the BIS published an Interim Final Rule that cements the supposed 90-day firearm export “pause” (it has been in effect for 180 days already) into permanent policy while also creating additional regulatory burdens.

Even Mainstream Media Can’t Argue: Women Learning to Safely Shoot is a Good Story

Mon, 04/29/2024 - 12:00

At the Strong Arms Gun Club in Virginia recently, WTKR news was on hand as approximately 20 women gathered to learn firearm handling and safety from Joel Jones, a local firearms instructor. Amidst rising concerns about public safety, these women, ranging in profession from real estate agents to mothers, are part of a growing demographic turning to firearms for protection.

Even as mainstream media tries to play to the negatives of shooting, when it comes to female empowerment and safety, it’s hard to put a negative spin on learning how to safely shoot a gun.

What We Can Learn From The Death Of An Alleged Pedophile In Seattle

Mon, 04/29/2024 - 10:00

Normally, you can get good police dashcam footage on YouTube, but this one was violent enough that even over there the original footage got buried into oblivion by news outlets who know how to work the algorithm and love to censor the footage for local TV. Fortunately, I was able to find it on X (or Twitter, or whatever).

In this video, Seattle police officers were waiting inside a hotel room for a man had  allegedly scheduled to meet one or two underage girls (the story differs around the internet).

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Paradise Lost, Avoid Turks and Caicos

Mon, 04/29/2024 - 08:00

The Second Amendment Foundation offers this warning to all U.S. gun owners: Do Not Travel to the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory located southeast of the Bahamas. And if you have already made plans, reconsider your destination.

SUMMARY: Since November 2022, at least eight American tourists have faced “firearms prosecutions” for inadvertently having ammunition in their luggage. In the past, tourists had been able to pay a fine, but as of a judge’s ruling in February of this year, violators are subject to severe prison time.

An Icon Revisited: The HK USP in Focus

Sun, 04/28/2024 - 13:24

Originally introduced for sale in 1993, the HK USP (Universelle Selbstladepistole or Universal Self-Loading Pistol) is an overbuilt tank of a pistol that first came to market chambered in .40 S&W. While many other pistols at the time were suffering from cracked frames and other issues due to taking 9mm designs and tweaking them to fit the bigger and higher pressure .40 S&W, the USP was designed from the ground up with this cartridge in mind.

Tow Truck Driver Shows Us How To Get Killed In One Easy Lesson

Sat, 04/27/2024 - 14:47

In a recent article at an automotive website, we see the bizarre story of a tow truck driver who got a little too desperate for the repo money. Instead of being professional and being a good hunter, he did something that could get him killed in most states. Worse, his death would have probably been entirely legal.

Before I go any further, I want to be entirely clear: people should pay their bills.

Things That Don’t Suck – Vertx SOCP Fanny Pack

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 17:56

A wave of 1980s nostalgia hit us in 2016 and still hasn’t let up. The 1980s are still considered cool, and I’d like to see us pull some of the more valuable things out of the 1980s. Like gas prices, a lack of the Hughes Amendment and fanny packs. The good news is that we get one of the three, and that’s fanny packs. In 1988, fanny packs were hailed as the product of the year, and in 2024, we have a small but growing market of fanny pack options for concealed carriers.

Georgia Governor Kemp Signs Law to Protect Financial Data of Gun Buyers

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 14:00

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has signed into law HB 1018, the Second Amendment Privacy Act. This NSSF-supported law protects the privacy and sensitive financial information of people purchasing firearms and ammunition in the Peach State. With Georgia, there are now 14 states with laws that protect the Second Amendment financial privacy of their citizens.

The law prohibits financial institutions from requiring the use of a firearm code, also known as a Merchant Category Code (MCC), from being assigned to firearm and ammunition purchases at retail when using a credit card.

BLM Works To Do Right By Target Shooters In Arizona

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 12:00

No, not that BLM. Today, we’re talking about the Bureau of Land Management. While there are certainly land managers who haven’t gotten along with the gun-owning conservative side of society, this recent story out of Arizona shows that there are people in the agency who are trying to do right by everyone.

When it comes to target shooting, the environmental issues associated with less responsible shooters can be very real. Going out and shooting at garbage instead of paper or steel can be fun, but it can get to the point where there are little pieces of computers, TV sets, malfunctioning printers (Office Space anyone?) and all manner of other toxic waste.
