FBI Gathering Addresses Through NICS

Fri, 10/14/2022 - 14:56

Every time you buy a gun, you have to pass your info through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) before you can take home your new little boating accident.

A reported 9 out of 10 failures to pass said background check in the notoriously inefficient government system are errors that keep lawful citizens from obtaining a weapon.

Despite that, a new rule will require federal firearms licensees (FFL) to provide the home addresses of customers who fail a background check to authorities.

Lawsuit Filed Against ATF 80% Ruling

Mon, 08/15/2022 - 15:38

Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) has filed a new lawsuit challenging the ATF’s rule that would create new terms and enact a slew of regulations for the agency to enforce, including ones that would treat non-frames and non-receivers as if they were actual frames and receivers of weapons. The complaint in VanDerStok v. Garland can be viewed at FPCLegal.org.

Banning “Assault Weapons”

Thu, 08/04/2022 - 15:29

The Quiet Part Out Loud

Wed, 07/20/2022 - 16:00

Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler admitted a Democrat-led bill intends to confiscate guns in “common use” during a Wednesday House Judiciary Committee hearing.

Republican North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop asked House Democrats if they dispute the fact that the proposed legislation H.R. 1808, titled “Assault Weapons Ban of 2021,” bans firearms in “common use” throughout the country.

“Would anyone on the other side dispute that this bill would ban weapons that are in common use in the United States today?” Bishop asked.

“That’s the point of the bill,” Nadler replied.

SCOTUS Strikes NY CHL Permit Restrictions

Thu, 06/23/2022 - 10:03

The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York gun law that puts restrictions on carrying a concealed gun outside the home.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the majority opinion in the 6-3 ruling, with liberal-leaning Justices Kagan, Sotomayor and Breyer dissented.

The New York “proper cause” requirement violates the Constitution because it allows only public-carry licenses when an applicant shows a special need for self-defense,” Thomas said in the opinion.

The New York law required concealed carry permit applicants to show proper cause for the permit. Applicants were forced to show a particular reason why they had to defend themselves, rather than just general self defense.

Debunking Biden’s Tired Gun Rhetoric And Lies

Fri, 06/03/2022 - 13:19

I’m not going to lie, it’s tedious constantly pointing out the same dishonest contentions of the anti-gun left. The nation would probably take Joe Biden’s gun demagoguery more seriously if the president and his staff occasionally cooked up some new material. Because last night’s plea for more gun control was a rehashing of the same archaic policy ideas, bad analogies, and lies that Democrats tend to drop after every shooting.

Lawmakers Warn ATF Over Suppressor Crackdown

Thu, 03/24/2022 - 10:10

Republicans on Capitol Hill are pressing federal gun regulators over an apparent sudden and arbitrary change to the practice of self-manufacturing suppressors.

U.S. Senators James Lankford (R-OK) and Steve Daines (R-MT) and 24 of their colleagues in the Senate last Wednesday fired off a letter to ATF officials demanding answers on the recent crackdown. Two days later, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and 141 Congressional colleagues added their signatures to a longer, 13-page, letter to ATF with the same general vibe.

In short, they want to know what’s the deal with solvent traps, and why the ATF is now lowering the boom on gun owners simply seeking in good faith to obey the law.

Historically, the ATF has required Americans trying to comply with NFA regulations to file a Form 1, pay the mandatory $200 tax – and, once all the red tape was processed over several months – they would be allowed to make the suppressor for their personal use. That is, until this month anyway.
