Dustin Reviews The Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22

Thu, 03/02/2017 - 11:00

The Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 is a great ergonomic and fun choice for modern rimfire rifle training.

We use a variety of rimfire rifles at our Youth Marksmanship Camp program. From single shot Savage rifles (check out the Rascal!), Henry lever actions, Volquartsen Custom rifles, H&K MP5s and of course the S&W M&P 15-22s.

The M&P 15-22 is several of the campers favorite rifles. Of course the first reason probably being because it’s an AR15 style rifle and it just looks cool. But as a range instructor I appreciate it the most because of it’s ergonomics and reliability. At this past camp we had several issues with our stock Ruger 10/22s and it was frustrating for the campers, but once again, our M&P 15-22s ran great.

Firefight

Tue, 02/28/2017 - 07:25

From the cameraman:
“I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and I made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of the hill with the LT when we got hit. The rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gun fire. I didn’t start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety.”

“A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless.”

Armed Society = Polite Society

Fri, 02/24/2017 - 13:45

Despite the gun laws in place, cities such as Chicago are still struggling to curb their violent crime epidemic. ‘Black Guns Matter’ Founder Maj Toure has proposed a unique alternative to the conventional reaction of calling for even stricter gun laws. Toure suggests providing more access to guns along with proper training.

“More so than just giving young urban people, of all races, firearms, giving them education about second amendment rights, giving them more education about conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics ‘cause that’s completely missing in urban areas like the city of Chicago,” Toure told the FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney.

Toure cited New Hampshire, where a license is no longer required to carry a concealed, loaded gun, as an example.

Interesting Perspective

Thu, 02/23/2017 - 12:40

“Contrary to the assumption of House Bill 1582, weapons familiarization training as a component of an individual’s military basic training does not qualify that individual to carry weapons in follow-on service.”

Senior ATF Official Proposes Loosening Gun Regulations

Mon, 02/06/2017 - 13:55

The second-highest-ranking official at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has written a proposal to reduce gun regulations, including examining a possible end to the ban on importing assault weapons into the United States.

The 11-page “white paper” by Ronald B. Turk, associate deputy director and chief operating officer of the ATF, calls for removing restrictions on the sale of gun silencers; allowing gun dealers to have more guns used in crimes traced to their stores before the federal government requires additional information from the dealer; and initiating a study on lifting the ban on imported assault weapons.

An AR Pistol Guide

Mon, 01/30/2017 - 00:00

When you are looking for a new type of firearm to add to your collection, you might hesitate when someone suggests an AR-15 pistol. The AR-15 pistol is a fascinating weapon, but it suffers from the reputation and controversies surrounding assault rifles in general. Contrary to popular belief, AR doesn’t stand for “assault rifle,” but rather Armalite, a trademark currently owned by the Colt company. As such, you can’t simply apply the same principles and stigmas to all AR-15 models that the general public usually applies to automatic weapons and assault rifles.

The AR-15 pistol does, however, have its own set of concerns and important considerations to be aware of. Let’s separate the fact from the fiction regarding AR-15 pistols so you can determine if it is the right firearm for you. We’ll also highlight the versatility and customizability of this fascinating weapon.

Trump Releases Plan For 2A

Tue, 01/24/2017 - 10:27

One common criticism of billionaire businessman and President-elect Donald Trump is that he far too often speaks in vague generalities and rarely offers specifics about where he stands on the issues.

That is no longer the case, at least regarding his stance on gun rights and the Second Amendment, after Trump released his official policy position on his campaign website.

“The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period,” the position paper began.

I would like to see added to that list a disbanding of the ATF, the removal of suppressors and SBR’s from the NFA, and the repeal of the Gun Free Zones Act of 1990.
