Situational Awareness When Carrying Concealed

Thu, 07/24/2014 - 17:09

“The concealed carry firearm is not an invisible shield. Just because you have it on you, doesn’t mean that it’s there to protect you in its dormant state.” In this week’s episode of Tips &Tactics, Tatiana Whitlock stresses the importance of fine-tuning your situational awareness if you plan to carry concealed.  Tatiana is a Refuse to Be a Victim® and NRA-certified basic pistol instructor, trained range safety officer, Krav Maga student and self-defense expert.

SilencerCo Salvo 12 Shotgun Suppressor

Thu, 07/24/2014 - 00:12

Utah-based SilencerCo released its newest product on July 21, the Salvo 12, which is the “world’s first commercially-viable shotgun supressor.”

The Salvo 12 is a non-coaxial, user-configurable 12-gauge supressor that now makes the action cycle the loudest part of a shotgun. It’s so efficient that you can hear the clay breaking midair downrange. In the past, numerous manufacturers and garage-based gunsmiths have attempted to save the ears and shoulders of shotgunners, but not until now has the prospect of a reliable, hearing-safe suppressor become a reality.

Beretta U.S.A. announced Tuesday that company concerns over a strict gun-control law enacted in Maryland last year have made it necessary to move its weapons making out of the state to Tennessee.

The well-known gun maker said it will move to a new production facility it is building in the Nashville suburb of Gallatin that is set to open in mid-2015.

Gov. Jerry Brown Signs New Handgun Ban AB 1964

Fri, 07/18/2014 - 22:22

In a Legislative Update issued earlier today, California Governor Jerry Brown announced that he has signed Assembly Bill 1964 (Dickinson), a measure that will eliminate the “single shot” exemption to California’s Roster of “not unsafe” handguns.  AB 1964’s changes to section 32100 of the California Penal Code, which will go into effect on January 1, 2015, will make it virtually impossible for law-abiding residents of the Golden State to acquire a “non-Roster” handgun in common use for lawful purposes, like self-defense.

Blood Brothers

Fri, 07/18/2014 - 00:34

In May of 2011, Buckeye, Arizona police officers Chris Paz and Rolando Tirado were working off-duty security detail at a popular Phoenix event when an altercation with a reckless driver turned deadly. This is the powerful story of the bonds of brotherhood between two officers who work side-by-side every day, and the aftereffect of what happens when one half of a partnership dies in the line of duty.

SOF Prefers 9mm over .45 Caliber

Thu, 07/17/2014 - 12:20

Pistol-caliber choices are personal and everybody has an opinion. But opinion isn’t fact, and there is some misinformation out there that needs to be addressed.

Many readers are under the impression that U.S. special operations forces have returned to using .45 caliber pistols since the adoption of the M9 9mm in 1985.

This has some truth to it, but in most cases SOF units use 9mm, experts maintain.
