AP: Most sheriffs in Nevada against gun background check initiative

Mon, 08/01/2016 - 13:08

A Nevada ballot initiative that would mandate background checks for gun purchases is opposed by several sheriffs in the state. The effort to mandate gun sales through gun dealers is financed by anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Via the Associated Press:

Sheriffs in most Nevada counties have come out against a background check initiative that gun control advocates are supporting on the ballot this November, but the top cop in the largest police agency in the state says he’ll sit this one out.

“This is a vote of the people,” Joe Lombardo, sheriff of Clark County and head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, told The Associated Press. “I’ve chosen to remain neutral on this.”

In the rest of the state, most of the other 16 elected sheriffs oppose Question 1, the Nevada Background Checks for Gun Purchases Initiative.

Bearing Arms: Hillary Clinton Is Lying About Her Intentions Towards Gun Rights. Here’s The Proof.

Fri, 07/29/2016 - 18:37

Hillary Clinton’s pro-Second Amendment rhetoric in her nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention betrays her past actions that are highly anti-gun. Via Bearing Arms:

During her speech to the Democrat National Convention last night, Hillary Clinton made a very interesting claim.

“I’m not here to repeal the Second Amendment,” she said during her speech at the Democratic National Convention. “I’m not here to take away your guns. I just don’t want you to be shot by someone who shouldn’t have a gun in the first place.”
Clinton’s parsing of the English language here is every bit as precise and deceptive as her husband’s attempt to define the word “is” during his impeachment trial.

The former First Lady knows that she does not have the Presidential power nor the support in Congress to repeal the Second Amendment, but she does have a solid plan in place to cripple it by bankrupting the firearms industry.

Breitbart: ‘Butler’ Director Lee Daniels Inflates ‘Gun Violence’ Numbers By 66% in DNC Gun Control Plea

Fri, 07/29/2016 - 12:44

Elite Hollywood filmmaker Lee Daniels lied at the Democratic National Convention when he inflated statistics of gun-related deaths.

Top Hollywood producer-director Lee Daniels inflated “gun violence” numbers by 66 percent when he claimed that “33,000 people each year die from gun violence” during his speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night.

“Hillary has stood with families of people who died due to gun violence,” the 56-year-old Empire creator and Oscar-nominated The Butler director said. “She’s helped turn their heartache into action. I wish she was around for me when my dad died.”

“Hillary understands our right to bear guns, but wants to stop guns from getting into the wrong hands,” he continued. “You guys, 33,000 Americans die each year from gun violence. That’s 90 people a day. Enough. We ne

The actual number of gun violence-related deaths is literally one-third of that, roughly 10,000 to 11,000 a year, on average.

#WearOrange Flashback: Former CA Assemblywoman “Mug Shot Mary” Hayashi

Thu, 07/28/2016 - 12:46

Former California Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D) would have been best known around the state for being one the most notorious anti-gun politicians in the state.

She’s instead best known for #WearOrange.

That’s right. “Mug Shot Mary” was charged in 2011 for felony grade theft for shoplifting almost $2,500 worth of merchandise from a Neiman Marcus store.

“Mug Shot Mary” voted anti-gun all sorts of different ways and was given flunking grades by the Gun Owners of California and the NRA.

Hayashi attempted to make a political comeback in 2014 with her lengthy rap sheet in tow, however voters wisely kept her from returning to Sacramento.

USA Today: Switzerland, land of peace, sees gun sales soar after terror attacks

Wed, 07/27/2016 - 12:18

The string of terrorism across Europe has prompted a surge in gun sales in Switzerland, a country both known for its dedication to peace and strong gun culture.

GENEVA — Business at Daniel Wyss’ gun shop has been brisk lately in the village of Burgdorf near Switzerland’s capital of Bern.

He said the increased demand for firearms is triggered by a growing fear among the Swiss public that terrorists could attack their tranquil land at any time.

As nations around Europe tighten their gun laws after a series of terror attacks in several countries since 2015, the Swiss are bucking this trend by turning to firearms for protection.

Official statistics show that gun sales in some parts of Switzerland soared nearly 50% after last year’s attacks in Paris and the March bombings in Brussels. And gun sales continue to grow since the killings in France and Germany in the past two weeks.

Breitbart: Ed Rendell to Democrats: Time to Be ‘Single-Issue’ Gun Control Voters

Wed, 07/27/2016 - 12:14

Via Breitbart:

Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D) tells a gathering of activists in Philadelphia it’s time for Democrats to be “single issue” voters for gun control.

The gathering was co-hosted by the PA SAFE Caucus, “Everytown for Gun Safety, American State Legislators for Gun Violence Prevention, CeaseFirePA,” and Gabby Giffords’s gun control group, Americans for Responsible Solutions.

According to Daily Local News, Rendell said, “If we’re going to make progress, the message we have to take is that we’re going to be single-issue voters. I don’t care about e-mails or anything else, (but) we need to vote for Hillary Clinton because she is someone who is going to make progress on gun control.”

He added, “I’m not ashamed of being a single-issue voter. This is a fight worth fighting for.”

Breitbart: Gun Stores Face Financial Ruin over Massachusetts ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban

Tue, 07/26/2016 - 16:05

Via Breitbart:

On July 20, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey (D) issued a directive expanding the state’s “assault weapons” ban to cover sales of weapons that had previously been interpreted as outside the ban.

Now the ban on firearms with certain cosmetic features — “flash suppressors and folding or telescoping stocks” — also includes those that lack these. This means firearms that gun manufacturers reworked to achieve state compliance cannot be sold in Massachusetts any longer.

Mark Bouchard — owner of Shooting Supplies in Westport — said the expanded ban will “take away 20 or 25 percent of his business” immediately.

Troy City Tactical’s Jim Czarn pointed out that Attorney General Healey has yet to issue a list of “common-wealth approved firearms,” which is complicating matters further by making gun manufacturers hesitate to ship firearms to Massachusetts’s gun stores. Czarn’s frustration is magnified by the fact that Healey expanded the check at a time when FBI stats show that no murders are being committed with rifles of any kind in the state of Massachusetts.

Project Veritas: Clinton Delegate Explains How Democrats Will Ban All Guns

Tue, 07/26/2016 - 13:56

In the latest Project Veritas dispatch, a PVA journalist encountered an alternate delegate for Hillary Clinton and discussed how the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton deceive the public in their mission to ban all guns.

The alternate delegate, Mary Bayer, disclosed the rhetorical slight of hand gun grabbers deploy to lure voters to elect them into office and then shred the Second Amendment.

“You say s*** like that, and then people will buy into it,” she said.

KION: AR-15 rifles in high demand after Governor Brown signs series of gun control bills

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 19:05

In light of Gunpocalyse in California, AR-15s are flying off the shelves and gun stores are jammed up with being already sold out of their backorders.

Central Coast gun shops are seeing a spike in sales. This comes nearly two weeks after Governor Jerry Brown signed a number of gun control measures.

“The California compliant rifles right now are non-existent. There is nothing out there,” said Ray Parga, owner of Del Valle Gunsmithing in Marina.

Parga said firearms, such as AR-15s, are flying off the shelves. He has some ordered, but even those have already been sold.

“We’re getting right now, probably 20 calls a day and we are a small shop,” said Parga. “Generally they just want to be able to have one before they aren’t allowed to buy them anymore.”

Fox News: College rifle, pistol-shooting clubs under fire, underfunded amid gun debate

Sun, 07/24/2016 - 10:03

College rifle teams are feeling marginalized and criticized from their peers at universities from the recent anti-gun rhetoric from the mainstream media and politicians.

Zoe Callaway enjoys going to the rifle range to blow off steam, help fellow University of Delaware students learn gun safety and hone her sharp-shooting skills, but lately she and some classmates feel they are being targeted over their enthusiasm for firearms.

Callaway, who grew up around guns and is president of the school’s Students for the Second Amendment club, first sensed the campus-wide opposition to her hobby when the group applied for an extracurricular grant for ammunition. They were denied, then appealed and eventually received a $500 stipend. The victory was short-lived, however, as outraged students successfully pressed school officials to explicitly prohibit ammo funding going forward.

“The majority of our student body does not support our group,” Callaway told FoxNews.com, adding that classmates perceive members of the club as “crazy gun kids” who intend to “shoot up the school.”

Guns.com: Mass. semi-auto crackdown results in 2,549 rifles sold in one day

Sat, 07/23/2016 - 16:10

In the aftermath of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy’s gun ban edict, there has been a sudden surge in gun sales all across the Bay State.

With roughly eight hours notice on Wednesday, Healy announced that she was immediately banning the sale of “copycat” rifles in the state that she felt violated the spirit of the 1998 Massachusetts assault weapon ban. Her method of reasoning focused on gun actions that are the heart of a weapon platform rather than cosmetic features such as stocks and grips.

The problem is that Healy inadvertently boosted sales of the very rifles she intended to prohibit as a rush on gun stores occurred, in some cases with customers queuing in lines that stretched out the door. In some cases, stores remained open late into the night, only closing when they ran out of inventory.

According to information from the Mass Firearms Records Bureau, some 2,549 rifles were sold Wednesday, compared to just 132 on Tuesday and 51 on Monday.

NYDN: Matt Damon under fire for pistol-packing ‘Jason Bourne’ poster after calling for tougher gun laws

Sat, 07/23/2016 - 11:00

Actor Matt Damon has been under fire for being hypocritical for critiquing American gun laws while promoting his latest Jason Bourne film as the character he plays uses firearms regularly. Damon has softened his stance after the deluge of criticism.

The “Jason Bourne” star is catching heat for a gun-toting poster promoting the violent action film just weeks after praising Australia for its tough gun laws.

“I would hate to see (the movie) be politicized,” Damon told the Daily News. “(Jason Bourne) is incredibly skeptical of institutions, and I think that’s something shared by everybody right now on the right and the left, for different reasons. But still they can relate to that.”

The poster comes as the country continues to mourn the recent deaths of two black men at the hands of police and the murders of eight police officers in two separate revenge attacks in Dallas and Baton Rouge, La.

KCRA: Folsom, Rancho Cordova schools allow select staff to carry guns

Wed, 03/09/2016 - 13:30

The Folsom Cordova Unified School District has released information that select staff members are approved to have guns on campus.

Superintendent Deborah Bettencourt issued a statement about the policy in an effort to clarify rumors that have been circulating regarding school safety.

“The safety of our students, staff, and families is our number one priority, and our narrow practice of allowing select, law-abiding employees to securely store and access a firearm in the event of an emergency is a legal and appropriate safety measure given the unfortunate reality of violence in our society today,” Bettencourt said.

The policy, which has been in place for six years, “grew from conversations with law enforcement, staff and the board of education during ongoing emergency preparation,” according to a release from the school district.

Staff members must hold a current conceal-carry weapons permit and must undergo ongoing training beyond what a CCW permit requires, the district said.

AJC: ‘Campus carry’ gun bill advances in Georgia Legislature

Tue, 03/08/2016 - 10:37

A bill legalizing firearms on Georgia’s college campuses passed a key Senate panel on Monday, with no changes to where the legislation says college students could be allowed to carry guns.

The move makes House Bill 859 eligible for a floor vote in the Senate later this week, and sets up a scenario that could see final passage well before the Legislature ends its work this year on March 24. It also represents a power move on behalf of the Senate’s GOP leadership in an election year for all state lawmakers, since the Senate in years past has stopped similar measures.

The Senate Judiciary Committee’s OK came as a television ad targeting efforts to legalize firearms on Georgia’s college campuses began airing in Atlanta over the weekend as opponents of the ‘campus carry’ effort tried to increase their pressure to stop it.

Merced Sun Star: Enthusiasts in Atwater scoff at proposed gun laws

Fri, 03/04/2016 - 11:55

New gun regulations headed to the state Assembly this week were met with contempt from gun enthusiasts in Merced County.

A package of bills made it through the Assembly Public Safety Committee on Tuesday, moving a step closer to the prohibition of “bullet buttons” and semi-automatic rifles with a removable clip. The bills also would limit purchases to one gun per buyer every 30 days, which would treat long guns the same as pistols.

“That’s not where the problems are,” Joey Verna, a gun shop owner, said Thursday. “It’s not the law-abiding people causing the problems.”

Verna, who owns Stage Stop Gun Shop stores in Atwater and Mariposa, noted the 30-day period between purchases extends to any gun shop in the state but not to sales between private owners.

The new regulations would not only affect his right to own the guns, he said, but as a store owner it could hurt his bottom line.

“They’re always trying to make it harder and harder on the gun dealers,” he said. “It would definitely hurt.”

WSAZ: W.Va. governor vetoes conceal carry gun bill

Thu, 03/03/2016 - 16:44

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has vetoed the conceal carry gun bill.

The bill would do away with the state’s current permit and training program to carry a concealed weapon in West Virginia for anyone ages 21 and older. Permits would be required for those between 18-21.

The governor announced the measure at a news conference Thursday with dozens of local law enforcement agencies who have expressed concerns over the legislation. The officers represented every law enforcement branch in the state.

Governor Tomblin says he vetoed the bill in the interest of officers’ safety.

“I have been listening, and today [Thursday] I stand with you for the safety of the men, women and children who call our state home,” the governor said. “Our law enforcement officers have dedicated their lives to keeping us safe. Now it’s time for us to return the favor and veto HB4145.”

The bill passed the House with a 61 to 31 vote. The Senate approved it 24 to 9.

CNN Money: Gun background checks: February is third-biggest month ever

Wed, 03/02/2016 - 11:52

February was the third-biggest month on record for gun background checks, according to data released Wednesday by the FBI.

Background checks, which the FBI conducts every time someone tries to buy a gun from a federally licensed dealer, rose to 2.6 million in February, according to the bureau.

February’s total falls short of the record set in December, 2015, when 3.3 million background checks were recorded.

The second biggest month was in December, 2012, the month of the Sandy Hook school massacre that killed 26, when the FBI logged 2.8 million checks.

Background checks, which are conducted by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, often spike after mass shootings. This is partly because gun buyers fear for their safety, and partly because they’re wary that the crimes might result in more gun control.

KOAA: Constitutional carry bill clears Colorado State Senate

Thu, 02/25/2016 - 18:48

The Colorado Senate passed a bill Monday that would let gun owners carry their firearms concealed wherever, whenever, and without applying for a permit. The “Constitutional Carry” bill, as supporters call it, is one of multiple pieces of legislation introduced at the capitol this year aimed at lifting restrictions on gun owners.

Several opponents, who call the bill “Permit-less Carry,” showed up to lobby against the measure.

Senate Bill 16-017 was sponsored by Republican Tim Neville from Senate District 16 which covers parts of Denver, Jefferson, Boulder and Gilpin Counties. He thinks the Constitutional Carry makes sense.

“In the State of Colorado, you can carry an open carry firearm, but if you put on a coat, just the process of putting that coat over that firearm, you could be guilty of a misdemeanor,” Neville said.

Fox 13: Business owner encourages employees to carry a gun

Wed, 02/24/2016 - 10:08

There is one insurance office in Georgia that is anything but boring.

A small firm with 12 employees sprinkled around three branches is getting attention from across the nation.

The reason is because the all female staff is packing heat. Owner Lance Toland said he will purchase a gun for any employee who goes through proper procedures and licensing.Toland has been in business for more than three decades. He said he never forgot the murder of a clerk for another insurance firm located in Zebulon.

Since he made the suggestion, Toland said his staff of all women welcome the idea with 100 percent participation.

The outside reaction so far is mostly positive. And he said he is getting more attention than he ever imagined, with media from around the country weighing in.

WCAX: Vermont gun advocates argue against new restrictions

Fri, 02/19/2016 - 16:55

Hundreds dressed in hunter orange argue the Green Mountains do not need any new gun laws.

Every year, Gun Rights Day fills the Vermont Statehouse cafeteria with the Second Amendment’s biggest fans.

This year, organizers urged those in attendance to fight six proposed pieces of gun legislation including three that would only apply within Burlington city limits.

They contend Vermont’s loose laws keep the state relatively safe and say there’s no evidence that guns bought in the Green Mountains end up at crime scenes in other states.

“If we can keep emotion out of the discussion of hunting, fishing, trapping and shooting sports, the facts are all on our side,” said Chris Bradley, Vt. Federation of Sportsmen Inc.

The three bills up for consideration at the Statehouse would ban the use of lead ammunition for hunting, require insurance policyholders to disclose firearms stored on their property and mandate background checks on most gun sales.
