Mark and Patricia McCloskey Plead Guilty to Misdemeanors, Pay Small Fines
What began with serious felony charges against the two St. Louis attorneys has now finally been settled as a far less serious matter. Mark and Patricia McCloskey became infamous last year when photos and video went viral showing the couple confronting a crowd outside their home when marchers trespassed in their Central West End neighborhood.
As St. Louis’s NBC station KSDK is reporting . . .
Mark McCloskey pleaded guilty to a count of fourth-degree assault, which was filed in court Thursday and is a Class C misdemeanor.

Your Comment Matters! Fight Back on ATF’s Proposed New Restrictions. Do It Now!
Apologies for all the exclamation marks! But…the number of comments left so far (59k) on the Federal Register RE ATF’s ridiculous planned restrictions on pistol stabilizing braces is simply not enough. And your comments really DO matter. Here’s just one recent example of how it can derail ATF’s anti-gun ambitions, plus a few suggestions of how to craft a meaningful comment that won’t be rejected.

Another Hearing Protection Act Bill Has Been Introduced in Congress
Remember the Hearing Protection Act? The first one? That was in The Time Before, back in 2017 when gun owners had visions of not only freeing suppressors from the National Firearms Act’s clutches, but also (gasp) maybe even national reciprocity.
Both of those ideas fell victim to politicians who never had an interest in making them happen, and jelly-like spines following the congressional baseball shooting. But that doesn’t mean treating suppressors like the common sense safety devices they are is any less a good idea today than it was four years ago.
TFW The LA Times Realizes Judge Benitez’s ‘Assault Weapons’ Ruling Stands Up Under Heller
[UCLA law professor Adam] Winkler interprets both the Heller opinion and a 1939 court ruling — United States vs. Miller — as broadly protecting firearms currently in common use. That ruling regulated sawed-off shotguns and machine guns.
“Benitez’s opinion was unnecessarily provocative,” Winkler says. “If nothing else, it was totally tone-deaf comparing Swiss Army knives to rifles.”
But the opinion’s conclusion was “certainly plausible,” Winkler continued.
Gun Meme of the Day: Precious, Tasty Creatures
My dad gave us a sous vide setup for Christmas and I’m never looking back. Absolutely bonkers results coming outta this — beef short ribs, salmon, steak, pork loin, chicken, lamb, pork shoulder, eggs, tri tip, pork rib roast and so much more. I haven’t had the chance to use it for wild game but I’ve heard absolutely fantastic things. The ability to add fat (olive oil, duck fat, whathaveyou) in with the meat and cook it low and slow for dozens of hours is apparently a game changer.

NSSF Kicks Off Chicago Campaign to Prevent Illegal Gun Purchases

As part of an ongoing national effort to help prevent illegal “straw” purchases of firearms, the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) are reminding the Greater Chicago area public that stiff penalties are in place for individuals convicted of such unlawful purchases. The campaign is in its 21st year and is a cornerstone of the cooperative relationship of the firearm industry, law enforcement and retailers.
Abbott Signs: Texas Becomes the 21st and Biggest Constitutional Carry State
Everyone was wondering what was taking Texas Governor Greg Abbott so long. The legislature passed a constitutional carry bill he said he’d sign a couple of weeks ago. It would have become law on Sunday without his signature.
We’d heard from reliable sources that there was a signing ceremony planned for tomorrow morning at the Alamo in San Antonio. Now Texas media are reporting that the governor has gone ahead and signed the bill without any pomp or circumstance.
Pawn Shop Gun Review: Astra A-80 .45 ACP Pistol
The pistol illustrated was manufactured by Astra of Spain from 1982 to 1989. It was once a common pistol in American gun stores in both .45 ACP and 9mm Luger (and even a few in .38 Super), eventually being replaces by the A-100 model. The primary difference between the A-80 and the A-100 is the A-100 uses a Browning type magazine release while the A-80 uses a European heel-type magazine release. While most Americans prefer a Browning type mag release, the heel magazine catch is secure and trouble-free…if not quite as fast.

7 Questions David Chipman Still Needs to Answer

ATF director nominee David Chipman got off easy at his confirmation hearings. Gun-hating democrats (i.e. 99% of the party’s officialdom) made the hearing ludicrously short leaving room for only a cursory examination of the impact this dedicated civilian disarmament advocate would have on gun owners and the gun industry.
Though Second Amendment defenders on the Senate Judiciary committee at times made Chipman look foolish, they failed to expose the danger he presents to our liberties.

Austin Murder Victim’s Brother: This Wasn’t a Gun Problem, It Was a ‘Defund the Police’ Problem
Early Saturday morning, two juveniles opened fire on each other in the middle of Austin’s crowded east Sixth Street entertainment district. New reports indicate there was a “dispute” between the two, though what that means — whether it was possibly gang-related — isn’t clear. Austin’s acting police chief described it as “an isolated incident between two parties.”
That portion of East Sixth Street, also known as Dirty Sixth, was crowded Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Georgia Grocery Store Cashier Shot and Killed After Face Mask Dispute [VIDEO]
From the Associated Press . . .
A grocery store cashier in the Atlanta area was killed and three other people were wounded Monday in a shooting that followed an argument over wearing face masks in the supermarket, authorities said.
DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox said the shooting occurred inside the Big Bear Supermarket in Decatur while several people were inside the business. She said a female cashier was killed when a man opened fire.
Good Guy With A Gun Stops Would-Have-Been Mass Shooting In Its Tracks
Fort Smith, Arkansas (May 15, 2021) — a disturbed 26-year-old man with a semi-automatic rifle went on a brief rampage at an apartment complex. Standing on the common area lawn, he repeatedly, urgently yelled for residents to exit their apartments. Apparently worried that there was a valid emergency, Lois Hicks, 87, went outside. The gunman shot and killed her.
At this point, unable to talk other residents into stepping outside, the shooter began firing into the apartments.
