Daily Digest: Weapons System Edition
This is from April of last year, when the Connecticut gun registration was being debated. A Connecticut citizen facing his elected representatives and telling them, point blank, “I will not comply with this unconstitutional law.” One of the politicians drones on for a bit, but don’t lose interest, because the best part is at the end. Domestic enemies, indeed. . .
Your Lockdown of the Day™ comes from Rifle, Colorado, where Rifle High School was briefly secured yesterday. A man considered a danger to himself caused police to ask school officials to implement a lockdown at 11:15 a.m., and it was lifted at 11:35 a.m. Police Lt. J.R. Boulton said, “The concern was for this individual and the proximity of the school.” The lockdown was lifted after the man was taken into custody.

Self-Defense Tip: GTFO
If that monster had stepped out of the Porsche Panamera without a gun, I still would have had the mother of all adrenalin rushes. Of course, I would have never left my car in the first place. As soon as Porsche guy blocked me in, I would have backed my car up and gotten out of there. Failing that, I would have driven past the Poker, scraping the door – even though it would have escalated his rage. I’m no James Bond, but my driving skills are a lot better than my fighting skills – with or without a firearm. (True story). Anyway, approaching a driver outside my vehicle to bitch at him for not letting me past? Not even an option. But let’s say you found yourself in this situation. What then? Well . . .
The non-Porsche driver had the exact right idea: put the car between yourself and Gigantor. Only our “hero” only had that idea after the initial physical contact was made. (I was s
OMG! A 60-Round AR-15 Magazine! OMG!
TTAG’s Testing & Reviews Editor Nick Leghorn has little time for the quasi-religious belief that ammunition magazine capacity limits save lives. You know: by [theoretically] forcing a spree killer or criminal to use 10-round magazines you [theoretically] force him to take a few seconds to reload, during which time an intended victim can [theoretically] mount a counter-attack and disarm or disable the killer. Provided the bad guy isn’t using one of tens of millions of higher capacity magazines currently in circulation or simply switches to another, fully-loaded weapon. Leghorn reckons it’s better to . . . wait for it . . . shoot the bad guy. That’s crazy talk! No wonder I was scared watching him load-up a Surefire 60-round mag which, by the way, performed flawlessly. OMG! Did I just give a spree killer a tip? Let’s hope they live in a mag cap ban s
Detroit Burglars Keep Breaking In, Detroit Homeowners Keep Shooting Them
What are you gonna do when some punk starts to break into your humble domicile in the middle of the night, and keeps coming at you even after you warn him you’re armed? If you’re armed, you’re gonna shoot the punk. It’s a lesson Detroit homeowners have learned. Detroit’s punks? Not so much . . .
From WXYZ.com:
Detroit Police say a woman shot and killed an intruder Friday afternoon at her home in the 22700 block of Grove. Police say a man in his 20s attempted to break into her home through a rear window. When the homeowner heard the noise, she grabbed her handgun and warned the invader that she was armed.
The suspect continued to break in and the woman shot him once in the chest.

NRA Response to Facebook Policy Damp Squib
Huzzah! The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action has responded to a gun control-related event on the same day that said gun control-related event occurred. Has the fast-acting Gun Owners of America GOAded America’s oldest civil rights organization into losing its sloth-like PR process? We shall see. But I like it!
The NRA enjoys 150 times more support on Facebook than Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns. That’s why Bloomberg and the gun control groups he funds tried to pressure Facebook into shutting down discussion of Second Amendment issues on its social media platforms. Bloomberg failed. NRA members and our supporters will continue to have a platform to exercise their First Amendment rights in support of their Second Amendment freedoms. – Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA In
Ohio Shooter’s Gun Ordered Returned after 18 Months
The shooting occurred on October 19, 2012, at about 2:44 am and was a classic case of castle doctrine self defense. The deceased was a violent convict with a long history of criminal behavior. He had alcohol, cocaine, and Oxycodone in his system when he was shot. Still, his relatives complained vigorously when they found out that he was shot, claiming that “they didn’t have to shoot him” . . .
On June 27, 2013, it was reported that Jack Dillon, the home owner, would not be charged. A grand jury had determined that his decision to shoot Jeffrey Carson fell well within the bounds Ohio’s castle doctrine. It took over nine months for the investigation to work its way through the syst
Zero Tolerance Government Functionary of the Day: Principal Patricia Price
A 10 year-old boy in Ohio has been suspended from school for using a ‘Level II Look-Alike Firearm’ in school. His ‘firearm’ of choice is more accurately described as his ‘finger.’ Where gun control and zero tolerance collide, all kinds of crazy Orwellian shit goes down. A joke becomes a threat. And your finger becomes a firearm. Doublespeak much? . . .
From CNN:
Ten-year-old Nathan Entingh doesn’t understand why he got suspended from school for three days.
According to his father, Paul Entingh, one moment the boy was “goofing off” with his friends in fifth grade science class, and the next the teacher was taking him out of the cla
BREAKING: Calguns, SAF Win Another Pro-2A Ninth Circuit Ruling
In another victory for Golden State gun rights, a Ninth Circuit panel has issued one more pro-gun rights decision – this time a 3-0 smackdown – in favor of reduced restrictions on concealed carry permits. Building on the Ninth’s earlier Peruta ruling, Calguns, the Second Amendment Foundation and pro-gun rights attorney extraordinaire, Alan Gura, have succeeded in lowering the barriers to obtaining concealed carry permits, this time in Yolo County. Press release after the jump . . .

ShootingTheBull410 9mm Ammo Quest: Speer Gold Dot +P vs. Speer Regular +P
ShootingTheBull410 is still blasting gel blocks on his 9mm Ammo Quest, trying to find the best-performing self defense ammo for a 3″ barrel 9mm pistol. In this take, he tests a most promising candidate; Speer Gold Dot 124-grain +P Short Barrel, and compares them against Speer’s regular 124-grain +P rounds. There’s plenty of blasting holes through lots of gel and denim. No end of careful measuring, comparing and tracking data, and crunching of numbers. All to reach an unexpected conclusion. Check it out for yourself.
NSSF Responds to Facebook’s Firearms Sales Policy Announcement
The National Shooting Sports Foundation – the firearms industry’s trade association – has noted Facebook’s nothingburger announcement regarding its policy toward firearms sales. The only real point of interest was the fact that Zuckerberg & Co. talked to almost every gun grabbing organization in the country in formulating their non-action. Hence, the NSSF’s terse response, after the the jump . . .
Facebook today acted to provide clarification to its policies on postings concerning firearms and agreed to provide educational messaging on its platform. We are in agreement that all applicable laws should be observed in t

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America: Statement on Facebook Firearms Sales Posts, Pages Policy Change
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’s statement on Facebook policy change on gun sales:
Facebook announced today that the company and its popular photo-sharing subsidiary Instagram will take significant steps to block potentially illegal firearm sales through their platforms. For the first time, the sites will delete reported posts offering to buy or sell guns without background checks – a key indicator that users may be seeking to avoid the life-saving checks that bar minors, felons, the seriously mentally ill and other dangerous people from buying guns. The sites will also block users under the age of 18 from viewing reported private gun sales posts from individual sellers and any pages used primarily for private gun offers . . .
The Facebook announcement follows a month-long campaign
BREAKING: Facebook Official Statement on Gun Sales Policy Change
Facebook has just posted this official statement regarding their policy on posts/pages related to the sale of firearms on both Facebook and Instagram:
Facebook, at its heart, is about helping people connect and communicate. Because of the diversity of people and cultures on our services, we know that people sometimes post or share things that may be controversial or objectionable. We work hard to find a balance between enabling people to express themselves about topics that are important to them, and creating an environment that is safe and respectful.
This balance is important to how we view commercial activity on Facebook or Instagram. We have strict rules about how businesses can use our advertising tools. For example, we do not permit advertising for illegal drugs, tobacco products, prescription pharmaceuticals, weapons, and several other products and services, and restrict advertising for products such as alcohol, adult products, and gaming. In all cases, we have systems in place to review and remove advertising that violates our
BREAKING: Facebook to “Crack Down on Gun Posts”
“Facebook is cracking down on gun-related posts,” usatoday.com reports. “Facebook is blocking minors from seeing postings of gun sales and will take down sales that don’t require a background check or cross state lines.” Which means . . . what? How will Facebook know that a poster is selling a gun and that a minor’s viewing the post (as opposed to an adult)? How will they know that a sale does or does not involve a background check, or will or will not cross state lines? Is the social media giant going to create a firearms content enforcement squad? Meanwhile, “The change is a win for groups like Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which have been lobbying for more rest
Ammo Review: Barnes 9 mm +P 115gr. TAC-XPD
I’m quite the Barnes fan and I’ve show it here and in various other venues. I’ve moved my hunting rifles exclusively to Barnes ammunition, and I’ve been very pleased with the accuracy and terminal ballistics. So when my day job boss offered to buy me some ammo, I jumped at the opportunity to pick up a box of 9 mm TAC-XPD to try out. I shot it through three pistols and my general feeling now is a solid “meh.” . . .
I’ve long struggled when it comes to bullet selection because I’ve never been able to decide whether accuracy is ultimately more important than terminal performance. This is especially true
This is Why A Good Range First Aid Kit is Important
Reader IllinoisShooter writes:
I wanted to tell this story because I actually used Nick’s range kit [ED: Nick's second post ever] early last October. The event was not enormous. No one died or really was in any eminent danger of dying, but I think the story needs to be told. I had been invited to a friend’s farm in southern Wisconsin. He stated that a few friends were going to be sighting in rifles and maybe shooting some pistols and thought I should come by. Being a lover of free range time, how could I pass it up? . . .
As background, I was the guy with the Walmart-bought first aid kit in my truck. You know, Band-aids, wooden Popsicle splints and some bug bite stuff. But last summer I updated my kit based on Nick’s article. Like most shooters who have a “real” kit, I did it just i
Connecticut: The Coming Storm
Written by Mike McDaniel. Republished from statelymcdanielmanor.wordpress.com:
Friday, June 27th, 2014, 0-dark-thiry:
The politicians have made their decision. By a twist of fate–your file simply happened to be on the top of the stack for no particular reason–you’ll be the first example. A state police SWAT team pull to the curb in front of your home, leap from their van and rush to your front door. Two black-clad men pull back a ram and swing it
