Magstorage Solutions AR-15 Mag Holder

Wed, 12/16/2015 - 09:13

I recently saw this AR magazine storage device on the DVOR website (Which is a wonderful website for finding all variety of gear you didn’t know you need), it seemed to be well made but it was manufactured by a company was one I had never heard of – Magstorage Solutions. I did a little research, looked at the photos several times I decided it was something I could use.  A short transaction later, it was on it’s way, bought on my own dime.  I am pleased to say, having installed it and done numerous mag insertions and extractions, that I feel it has legitimate value.

Single mother buys gun, makes it on TMZ

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 12:36

Okay, I know I’m like a month behind the times on this, but I’d bet most of my readers didn’t know that TMZ spotted former child star Hilary Duff buying a Glock in Culver City back in November.

Did Taurus buy old Colt machining to make their 1911s?

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 10:17

While I’ve been working on the PT1911 Torture Test I have come across an interesting bit of internet folklore regarding Taurus’ 1911 production. Apparently, some people believe that Taurus bought old Colt machining when they started making their 1911s. I thought this was a fascinating rumor, so I decided to run it down.

Army’s Modular Handgun System to cost over $1 billion dollars

Mon, 12/14/2015 - 10:50

The Army is currently deep in the weeds in the process of trying to replace the venerable M9, which has served the US for nearly 30 years. The initial estimates placed the cost of the replacement program around $300-500 Million dollars, however a new report shows that the cost to taxpayers will likely be over a billion dollars.

Teach Your Children Well

Mon, 12/14/2015 - 07:50

Kids. They can make you laugh one minute and make you want to choke them the next, but you always love them. Parents are not perfect – I know I am not – but we owe it to our kids to give them the best tools possible, so they flourish and ultimately build a better world than they are getting handed to them. I believe it is long past time that we, as a society, get our kids involved.

Troy Di-Optic Sights

Fri, 12/11/2015 - 10:24

Four or five years ago I decided to ditch my A2 carry handle and put a Troy BUIS on my AR.  Being new to the AR platform, I thought it would be a good idea to purchase the Troy BUIS with the Di-Optic Aperture (DOA) instead of a standard A2 aperture. Fast forward to 2015 and I have put enough rounds down range comparing the two apertures that I feel confident in offering an experience based opinion.

Taurus PT1911 Torture Test Introduction

Fri, 12/11/2015 - 10:23

At least once a month I’ll get an email or FB message from someone who wants to know why I hate Taurus so much. The fact is that I don’t. I actually really want to like Taurus. I want their guns to be good, because the idea of affordable, reliable 1911s or metal framed revolvers is awesome.

The problem is that I’ve been burned in the past. I’ve spent my own money on Taurus pistols and revolvers, some of which have been okay, some of which have not, and one, a Taurus 82 that was so poorly made it was actually rather dangerous.

But like I said in the video, I’m putt all that to rest now. I bought this gun with my own money, it’s totally stock, and I’m going to document every single round that exits the barrel from it. Make no mistake, I want this gun to kick ass. I want it to be good so bad it hurts a little bit, because I love 9mm 1911s, and one that doesn’t cost a fortune makes me happy on the inside.

Concealed Carry: Vehicle Environment Skills by FPF Training

Thu, 12/10/2015 - 12:08

In the United States the car plays a central role in the life of most citizens…likely moreso in the United States than in any other country on earth. Getting your driver’s license at 16/17 years old is considered an important milestone. Having one’s own car is such a symbol of independence that teenagers work entry level jobs to save up enough money to buy one. It’s considered such a crucial part of life in most of the country that we even allow people who have been convicted of drunk driving, one of the most lethally negligent activities you can engage in, to continue driving under some restrictions because it is believed that completely banning them from the roads would cause undue hardship.

Trunk Gun Considerations, Part 1.

Thu, 12/10/2015 - 11:31

Just like the first snow of the season sends unprepared drivers to the mechanic for new wiper blades and snow tires, two dramatic episodes of Jihad in the West have ignited a renewed interest in the “Trunk Gun”. This is usually a long gun and some other ancillary gear kept in readiness in a personal vehicle meant as a supplement to our daily carry pistol.

People on the no-fly list should be allowed to buy guns #dosomething

Wed, 12/09/2015 - 10:03

In the wake of the terrorist attack in California, President Obama has called on Congress to “do something” about our “gun problem” – namely to make it so that people on the no-fly list would be barred from buying guns, presumably by failing a NICS check. The President even posted this image on Twitter, complete with the most passive and useless hashtag ever, which I’ve used in the post title. “#dosomething”

Publishing in the Firearms Industry is Fundamentally Broken: A (Comedic?) Tragedy

Tue, 12/08/2015 - 09:18

I have recently jokingly begun to refer to myself as the tragic embodiment of the downfall of the print industry. That’s not (entirely) true of course, but it makes me laugh. Now that I’ve found a new home and a new family at Badlands Pawn I have been able to detach myself from the publishing world I have been engaged in and fueling for the past years. I have a few observations from my time steeped in this truly unique working environment: there are a lot of AMAZING people behind the scenes of your favorite blogs and magazines, there are a couple terrible ones, and the whole entire thing is a broken mess and it’s really not their fault.

CCW Dry Fire?

Mon, 12/07/2015 - 10:05

There is a common misconception about dry fire and what it can do for CCW holders; a misconception only compounded by gross misunderstandings of what dry fire is.  It seems many CCW holders believe dry fire is nothing more than cocking their unloaded gun and firing it at a light switch or the TV.

NDZ Performance Base Pad for the Shield

Fri, 12/04/2015 - 08:25

The Smith and Wesson Shield.  By all accounts it is a home run and one of the best guns you can buy in that size range.  In my household we have two of them; but in spite of my love for the gun, I was less than impressed with the 7 round magazine’s base pad.  I really dislike wrapping my pinky finger back under the gun; I briefly entertained the thought of holding that finger straight out, but I didn’t want to look like a Duchess when I fired the gun.  Ultimately it became a background issue since I seldom carried with the 7 round mag inserted.
