LEGAL: Mark Smith on Delaware Gun & Mag Ban Amici briefs

Sat, 07/08/2023 - 11:30

I’m told by people who have forgotten more about law than I know that Mark Smith hit it out of the park on this video.  Watch it as you have time.  It’s relevant and then some to our legal fight in Illinois.

Northwest Chicagoland July Chapter Meeting Information

Sat, 07/08/2023 - 07:00

The next meeting of the Northwest Chicagoland Chapter will be Wednesday, July 12th at Prairie House Tavern, 2710 N. Main Street, Buffalo Grove. We will begin at 6 pm.

We are attempting to secure a police K9 demonstration and will be meeting outdoors on the patio. We are accepting self-nominations for the Chapter Board, with the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large.

The dinner format has changed a little. There will be a $15 food fee as you walk in if you decide to eat. (You do not have to eat… but we encourage folks to support our hosts). This will be buffet style (all you can eat) with the July menu being Mini Pork Sliders, Mac and Cheese, Quesadillas, and a mixed salad. Drinks are not included, but people are free to purchase drinks inside.

This is actually less expensive than if we were to order individually off the menu.

Prairie House has asked me to mention that cash is preferred. (They have one computer with more on order, and credit card processing slows service for everyone).

LAWLESS: Life in lawless Chicago gets more national coverage [VIDEO]

Thu, 07/06/2023 - 12:43

The Wild West has nothing on Chicago.  Nothing.

The Daily Caller put together a number of recent videos from Chicago to show life in the Windy City.  It’s netted just shy of 50,000 views in the past 24 hours.

It’s not pretty.  It is, however, worth the watch.

Happy Independence Day!

Tue, 07/04/2023 - 07:00

Go enjoy some fireworks.  Or shoot your own.

If you do shoot your own, avoid any “hold my beer and watch this!” moments, please.

GSL Meeting UPDATES FOR JULY: Sangamon County moved to July 10th, Pontiac cancelled, Peoria RSVP link…

Mon, 07/03/2023 - 13:42

We have a couple of changes to our lineup because of the Independence Day holiday.

No Pontiac meeting in July.
Because of the Independence Day holiday on the first Tuesday in July, we’re cancelling our Pontiac meeting that night. We’ll return in August. Have a safe celebration of America’s Independence Day holiday.

Sangamon Co. rescheduled for Monday, Jul 10th
The Sangamon County team has elected to move our July meeting back a week to July 10th. We’ll meet at SCHEELS, as usual. Bring your appetite as they have good food and bring your wallet as they have lots of guns, ammo and accessories. Plus the ferris wheel is fun too, and only costs a buck a ride.

Peoria
We will have our Thursday meeting in Peoria.  Our hosts ask folks to RSVP if they can so they have a better handle on how much food to prepare.  Here’s the link or you can call (309) 692-3990 to reserve a meal to Barrack’s in Peoria directly.

Meet Chuck Michel, leader of our legal fight against Pritzker’s Gun & Magazine Ban

Wed, 06/28/2023 - 15:39

Maxon and the Aurora Sportsmen’s Club (ASC) are hosting two “Meet the Legal Team” fundraisers to support our fight against the Illinois PICA Gun & Magazine ban.

Meet lead attorney Chuck Michel from the Second Amendment Law Center and Illinois gun law expert Todd Vandermyde for a real time update on the case and a Q&A.

Chuck and Todd will discuss how the oral arguments went during the Thursday hearing.  We’ll also hear from them on when we expect to have an order from the court, and when we should expect to get back to business as usual.

Seats are a $100 tax-deductible donation to the 2nd Amendment Law Center.

THURSDAY, June 29th at Maxon’s in DesPlaines.

FRIDAY, June 30th at Aurora Sportsman’s Club.

Ex-boyfriend wouldn’t move on… so he broke in and got shot by resident

Sat, 06/24/2023 - 07:30

What happens when you break a bedroom window and try to crawl into you ex-girlfriend’s apartment?  Well, if you’re a guy in Gonzales, LA, you might get shot repeatedly until you cease your intrusion.

That’s exactly how things went down for 35-year-old Joshua Jones.  He wouldn’t move on after his former romantic interest broke up with him.

She found a new romantic interest.  And Mr. New Guy didn’t appreciate Mr. Old Guy trying to break in and batter or harm either of them.  So he shot the intruder.

And that’s about the end of the story, aside from the cleanup.

From WBRZ:

GONZALES – A man was shot multiple times while trying to force his way into his ex’s apartment over the weekend, according to police.

The Gonzales Police Department said Tuesday that 35-year-old Joshua Jones of Donaldsonville was initially hospitalized but later died from his gunshot wounds.

Jones reportedly tried to break into the apartment on South Lanoux Avenue late Saturday night, while the victim’s new boyfriend was also inside. Police said Jones was shot as he tried to shatter the bedroom window.

Tom DeVore scheduled at GSL’s Charleston’s July 13th Meeting

Fri, 06/23/2023 - 11:00

We have a number of great speakers on deck for our July meetings. These include Tom DeVore slated to speak at our Charleston GSL meeting on July 13th at the U Hotel Conference Center (behind the Brickhouse Restaurant).

Join us for dinner and conversation at 6 and the meeting program will begin at 7.

Tom DeVore has gained the reputation for some great legal work challenging the status quo in Illinois government. He continues to serve as a burr under the saddle of our state’s leaders and for that, we’re grateful.

He’ll probably give an update on his case and his analysis of where we’re heading on legal challenges to Pritzker’s gun ban and other legislation.

POWER-HUNGRY EGOMANIACS: California State Senator (D-Tyranny) butt hurt over courts blocking gun control

Tue, 06/13/2023 - 19:00

“This is precisely what a power-hungry egomaniac would say after being told they’re not allowed to violate the rights of peaceable people.”

Amen.

This is precisely what a power-hungry egomaniac would say after being told they’re not allowed to violate the rights of peaceable people.

GOOD QUESTION: What percentage of gun crimes are committed by Republicans?

Tue, 06/13/2023 - 17:00

Scott Adams, the Dilbert cartoon creator, dropped this on Twitter a couple of days ago.

What percentage of gun crimes are committed by Republicans?

Or NRA members.

Thoughts?

Leave ’em in comments.

WORTH WATCHING: Mark Smith analysis of SCOTUS decision TYLER v. HENNEPIN COUNTY

Mon, 06/12/2023 - 14:02

Take a few minutes to look at Mark Smith’s analysis of the 9-0 SCOTUS decision Tyler v. Hennepin County.  Basically how SCOTUS used text, history and tradition in the Tyler decision.

LIBERTY: Miss Liberty has a request…

Wed, 06/07/2023 - 17:00

Member Janice Beasley, aka Liberty Walsh in the Cowboy world, sent a great photo of her working the targets at a Cowboy Action shoot. With it, she sent a letter asking if we could run a female on the front cover that isn’t holding a semi-auto rifle. And who isn’t 30-years-old.

Admittedly I chuckled upon receipt of her letter displaying outstanding penmanship. First, a couple of things: We look for “vertically” oriented photos on our cover. Also, the AR-15 is America’s favorite rifle for a reason, in that almost everyone wants one. As for the ladies, the last time I put a guy on the cover I caught a lot of razzing about it. In fact, I still hear about that from time to time today.

So while I’m not opposed to more mature ladies with great non-semi-auto hardware, we’ll need a charming, high-resolution photo (digital, por favor) of the vertical sort. In the meantime, here’s Liberty’s photo of her doing her thing. Very nice.

CALLED IT: Defendant’s filings cite ‘unprecedented societal concerns’ as a reason to infringe upon fundamental 2A rights

Tue, 06/06/2023 - 16:30

Yesterday I predicted more of the same from gun control jihadists in state government in justifying their unconstitutional new gun and magazine ban that has done nothing to keep anyone except criminals safer.  Sure enough, in filings yesterday, that’s just what the state offered.

As of this writing, I’m busy with about three other things and have just received an update with the briefs filed yesterday by the State of Illinois and other defendants in the PICA Gun & Mag ban lawsuits.

Greg Bishop did a fairly good job this morning.  As I don’t have time to pour into analysis and reading, I’ll just leave the link and Greg’s video from this morning.

I’m sure I’ll have a chance to sit down with some analysis fuel (cough, Bulleit) and take a gander later tonight after the Pontiac meeting.

LAST DAY: BATF emailing peeps with ‘draft’ eForm one applications pending… don’t panic

Wed, 05/31/2023 - 16:22

Got the above email in your email box?  No doubt millions(?) of Americans who initiated eForm 1 applications for firearms with support braces attached have gotten them.

What happened (or what we believe happened) is that if you bailed on completing your initiated application before completion, it’s hanging there in your account as uncompleted as a “draft”.  Hence this email.  So people like myself who abandoned initial efforts to complete their eForm 1 application because of a hangup have these “drafts” sitting idle.

The BATF’s system isn’t the best at allow you to recall earlier saved versions.  Whatevs.

If you’ve completed your eForm 1 and gotten this email with the subject line below indicating the submission was received, you’re golden.

eForms Application Submission Notification for Permit/Control No: 2023xxxxxx.

If you haven’t, you’ve got until midnight tonight to get it in.

If you haven’t submitted your cover letter and fingerprint cards, you have ten days from electronic submission to do so, so get on it!

NEVER FORGET…

Sun, 05/28/2023 - 20:00

“And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.”

GEEKDOM, BUT IMPORTANT: SCOTUS 9-0 ruling on EPA ‘Clean Waters’ rule portends great news for gun owners.

Sat, 05/27/2023 - 18:00

You probably didn’t pay much attention to this weeks 9-0 decision from the US Supreme Court on the EPA’s “Clean Waters” administrative rulemaking.  You should.  Yes, it’s very legalese, but it’s of monumental importance for us as gun owners.  Especially when it comes to rulemaking like, oh, I dunno, bump stocks, support braces, forced reset triggers, and a host of other products arbitrarily reclassified as prohibited after earlier BATF approvals.

Mark Smith over at Four Boxes Diner has the details in a fairly understandable format.  It’s worth the 20 minutes, folks.  Really.

Yes, I know, these YouTube guys often exercise hyperbole to gain clicks.  But this one is legitimately a big, breaking story that will help our side in the coming months.

Illinois Supreme Court hears Caulkins Gun Ban Case Tuesday morning, May 16th – WATCH IT LIVE

Mon, 05/15/2023 - 22:16

Tuesday, May 16th is one day we’ve all been waiting for.  The Illinois Supreme Court will hear Kwame Raoul’s appeal of the Caulkins case where a Macon County Circuit Court judge struck down JB Pritzker’s gun and magazine ban law.

The LiveStream starts at 9am for the first case, and then after a short break, they’ll have oral arguments for the Caulkins case.  I’d expect it to go on around 10:30am but that’s subject to change.

Here’s the docket page from the Illinois Supreme Court.

Included on that is the live-stream link from “Blue Room Stream.”  You will not be able to watch the video without paying for a subscription after the live stream is over.

Given the importance of this case, there will be no further posting of stories until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest.
