Wisconsin: Senate to Consider Increased Hunter Opportunity Bill Tomorrow

Mon, 09/16/2013 - 10:00
Tomorrow, the Wisconsin Senate is expected to vote on Assembly Bill 194, legislation that would allow hunters to use a crossbow during the big game archery season.  AB 194, sponsored by state Representative Mary Czaja (R-35), passed unanimously in the state Assembly in June.  Therefore, the full Senate is this bill’s final hurdle before it can be signed into law to benefit sportsmen and hunters in the Badger State.  It is critical that you contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him or her to vote YES on Assembly Bill 194 tomorrow.  Please let your state Senator know that experience in other states has shown that allowing the unqualified use of crossbows helps to retain and recruit hunters.  Sportsmen, particularly older hunters with diminished physical capabilities, in Wisconsin deserve this same opportunity.

Voter suppression in Angela Giron recall? Hardly

Sun, 09/15/2013 - 19:00
People who supported her "weren't able" to get to the polls? Nonsense. They were no less able to get to the polls than folks on the other side. If a disproportionate number of her supporters failed to vote, it's because they chose not to. Yes, a court ruling last month that the state's new election law conflicted with a constitutional provision prevented the use of mail ballots. And political observers agreed the ruling might benefit the GOP. But the litigation itself was spearheaded by an Aspen voting activist and the Libertarian Party, and had nothing to do with an attempt at "voter suppression." We opposed the recall, but we also oppose lurid attempts to portray Colorado's recall elections as somehow illegitimate.

Mississippi: Mess with our guns, and we'll send you packin'

Sun, 09/15/2013 - 19:00
On Sept. 10, two Colorado state senators were removed from office in an unprecedented recall election. The reason? These two legislators supported strict gun control measures, including universal background checks and limitations on rounds of ammunition. Despite millions of dollars poured into Colorado by national anti gun organizations including "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," the people of Colorado sent the senators home. It's the most recent sign in a national debate that in America, people still believe our fundamental rights are worth defending.

California: Help Stop the Remaining Anti-Gun Legislation

Fri, 09/13/2013 - 19:00
The 2013 California legislative session adjourned yesterday, with major anti-gun legislation passing through their legislative chambers and now going to Governor Jerry Brown (D) for his consideration.  In the middle of the chaos at the State Capitol, a major semi-automatic ban squeaked out of the state Senate by a ONE vote margin.  Then in the waning hours of the session, the legislature DEFEATED two major anti-gun bills that would have banned the simple possession of magazines and drastically restricted the sale and possession of ammunition.  It is IMPERATIVE that every law-abiding citizen call AND e-mail Governor Brown DAILY respectfully urging him to stand up for law-abiding gun owners, sportsmen and the Second Amendment.

Thu, 09/12/2013 - 19:05
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group took a beating this week with the recalls of two state senators in Colorado, but officials with the group said Thursday they believe the battle nationwide is far from over. The officials told TPM that Mayors Against Illegal Guns is eying five other states where they think they could make their mark if they invest resources.
