Biden Urges Repeat Of Assault Weapons Ban

Thu, 04/29/2021 - 08:05

President Joe Biden again called on federal lawmakers to pass a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, his latest plea in recent weeks as the US has experienced a steady and shocking spate of gun violence.

“Gun violence has become an epidemic in America,” Biden said during his first address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday night.

He also called on Congress to close the “boyfriend” loophole “to keep guns out of the hands of abusers,” saying that more than 50 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner each month. “Let’s pass it and save some lives,” he said.

ATF vs ‘Ghost Guns’

Wed, 04/21/2021 - 09:11

According to the report, any random part that the user could “readily” convert into a firearm would be subject to ATF regulations. As in the past, the document doesn’t define what the term “readily convertible” means. This term could be that any block of metal could be “readily convertible” into a firearm. In fact, the document shows that the ATF used a court case where it took the user eight hours to covert a kit into a gun. The document does highlight the need for a complete machine shop, and qualified workers to complete a firearm would not fall under the proposed rules.

The document would mean new 80% AR-15 lower receivers, chunks of metal, would need a serial number and require the buyer to obtain a background check before the seller could transfer it because it could be “easily” convertible with “readily available” tools. The document demonizes the modern sporting rifle by highlighting that Eugene Stoner originally designed the rifle for military use.

Biden Admin: Violate 4A In Order To Viloate 2A

Thu, 03/25/2021 - 09:40

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear oral argument in Caniglia v. Strom, a case that could have sweeping consequences for policing, due process, and mental health, with the Biden Administration and attorneys general from nine states urging the High Court to uphold warrantless gun confiscation. But what would ultimately become a major Fourth Amendment case began with an elderly couple’s spat over a coffee mug.

Biden: No Clue On Facts, But Must Act Now On Guns

Tue, 03/23/2021 - 14:51

“I want to be very clear. This is the one thing I do know enough to say on in terms of what’s happened there. While we are still waiting for more information regarding the shooter, his motive, the weapons he used, the guns, the magazines, the weapons, the modifications that apparently have taken place with those weapons involved here, I don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense steps to save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Seante to act,” Biden said. “We can ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines in this country once again. I got that done when I was a Senator. It passed, it was the law for the longest time…we should do it again.”

“I’ll have much more to say as we learn more but I wanted to be clear,” he continued.

Buckle up, yall…

Skyrocketing Gun Sales

Tue, 02/02/2021 - 10:41

The FBI and the firearms industry reported Tuesday that sales and gun background checks smashed through past records as people grew increasingly worried that the new Biden administration will impose gun controls.

When adjusted just for gun sale background checks, the National Shooting Sports Foundation said that the increase over January 2020 was 75.2%. While not an exact count, the numbers generally track sales.

FBI records showed 4,317,804 background check applications, a 60% increase over January 2020. That also includes checks for concealed carry permits and other gun issues.

Airline Gun Rights Concerns

Thu, 01/28/2021 - 10:55

Airlines in the U.S. temporarily banning some passengers from flying with their locked guns in luggage bays – with little to no advanced notice – is forcing them to cancel trips and spend hundreds of dollars on backup plans, while arguing that their Second Amendment rights are being trampled.

Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest and United airlines on Jan. 14 announced the ban on passengers flying into Washington-area airports with their firearms, citing the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol Building. The airlines also cited the upcoming presidential inauguration, though federal law allows guns on all flights so long as they’re locked in a hardshell case and surrendered to an airline employee at check-in.

Guns & Ammo Sales Skyrocketing

Mon, 01/25/2021 - 14:32

Gun sales are up. Again.

It tends to happen every election season, especially when a Democrat challenges and wins the presidency, according to shop owners and industry observers. The pandemic and nationwide protests in 2020 fueled people’s willingness to buy guns or stock up on ammunition, experts say.

“People are worried for their safety,” said Andi Turner, the legislative director for the Texas State Rifle Association.

Calls for defunding the police, the new president and the pandemic are making people rush to gun stores, Turner said.

At Intrepid Shooting Sports in Fort Worth, ammo shelves are wiped clean and some gun racks are empty.

“Pretty much every election season is like this,” said owner Chris Mayhall, who’s been in the gun industry for about six years.

Mayhall said his sales doubled in 2020 compared to 2019, and he has seen a lot of first-time buyers. By August, there were about 5 million new gun owners in 2020, according to a National Shooting Sports Foundation report.

Facebook Bans Gun Related Ads

Sat, 01/16/2021 - 21:24

Facebook is continuing its crackdown on potential domestic terrorism at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. The social network told BuzzFeed News that it was temporarily banning US ads for gun accessories and military gear, such as holsters and body armor, until “at least” January 22nd. The restriction came from an “abundance of caution” in response to BuzzFeed, politicians and Facebook staff, according to spokesperson Liz Bourgeois.

The company already barred ads for guns, ammo and gun enhancements like silencers.

The pause followed warnings of a spike in ads for the accessories in the days following the January 6th Capitol riot. The ads were frequently popping up for people who followed extreme right-wing groups and pages, and often directly addressed the potential violence surrounding Biden’s inauguration.

Biden: Pledged To Defeat The NRA

Mon, 01/11/2021 - 11:13

With regards to the nomenclature, I suspect he means 2nd Amendment rather than the NRA.

Joe Biden’s agenda for increased gun control has hit peak intensity after he made his intentions clear to turn Americans’ right to purchase firearms into an over-regulated nightmare, all while opulent politicians are free to keep their armed security.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper, Biden was probed about whether he would come for Americans’ guns if he was elected to the White House.

“Bingo, you’re right…if you have an assault weapon, the fact of the matter is, they should be illegal. Period,” he stated.
“I would institute a national buyback program and I would make sure that is what we do, to get them off the street.”

He added, the first thing he will do as president is work to get rid of that measure and strongly increase gun control across the board. Meanwhile, President Trump has warned about the growing efforts of the radical left to disarm American citizens.

Financial Institutions Fighting Rule That Would Force Them To Do Business With Firearms Industry

Thu, 01/07/2021 - 15:26

Financial institutions are pushing back against a proposed rule change that would force them to work with the firearms industry, citing concerns over the legality of the measure.

Introduced by the Treasury Department’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in November, the measure would block financial institutions from refusing to do business with companies the banks believe may hurt their image. The rule requires that banks base decisions on financial risk assessment: As long as the numbers are financially sound, banks will be unable to deny services to a lawful business.

ATF To Institute Rulemaking/Guidance Regarding Stabilizing Braces And Require Registration Of Currently Owned Braces

Thu, 12/17/2020 - 11:14

In a 16 page draft copy of proposed rulemaking/guidance specifying “Objective Factors for Classifying Stablizing Braces”, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has proposed entering into rulemaking to delineate the objective factors considered when “evaluating firearms with an attached stabilizing brace to determine whether they are considered firearms under the National Firearms Act (‘NFA’) and/or the Gun Control Act (‘GCA)” and the Department of Justice’s plan to “subsequently implement a separate process for current possessors of stabilizer-equipped firearms to choose to register such firearms in compliance with the NFA.”
