Mass Shootings 10x Lower Than Reported

Tue, 07/06/2021 - 09:50

According to a recently released report from the FBI, there were far fewer mass shootings over the past four years than were reported by the Gun Violence Archive, a private nonprofit that provides the data cited most often by the mainstream media.

The FBI found that while active shootings are increasing, they are not nearly the threat the Gun Violence Archive and the media would have you believe.

2A Sanctuary Status Inviting Federal Scrutiny

Thu, 06/24/2021 - 09:02

With Gov. Abbott’s signature barely dry, the Biden administration is threatening states about passing second amendment sanctuary bills.

The Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian Boynton wrote to the state of Missouri warning that the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause overrides the state’s resolution to ignore federal laws. The letter added that “where federal law conflicts with state law, state law is preempted.”

Boynton added that the state cannot shield residents and businesses from federal laws and that the federal agents would continue enforcing laws regardless of the state regulations.

He warned that the resolution threatens the working relationship between the state and the federal government. The letter also notes that the state receives federal grants and technical assistance which the state risks losing.

You Need A Nuke

Thu, 06/24/2021 - 08:21

BIDEN: "Those who say the blood of Patriots, you know, and all the stuff about how we’re gonna have to move against the government.”

"If you think you need to have weapons to take on the government, you need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons."pic.twitter.com/WVHUffpphP

Could it potentially be a defense in court to say, “They threatened to nuke me, so I was in fear for my life and shot in self defense.”? Who is to say?

9th Circuit Issues Stay For ‘Assault Weapons Ban’ Repeal

Tue, 06/22/2021 - 11:03

A federal appeals court this week put on hold a judge’s ruling overturning California’s 32-year-old ban on so-called “assault weapons.”

On Monday, a three-judge panel in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay (pdf) of U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez’s June 4 order. It followed appeals from state officials on the decision, saying that the law is needed to prevent gun deaths.

Benitez, a George W. Bush appointee, had ruled earlier this month that the state’s decades-old ban on “assault weapons” violates the Second Amendment.

The state government, through the law, “bans an entire class of very popular hardware—firearms that are lawful under federal law and under the laws of most states and that are commonly held by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes,” Benitez wrote in his 94-page ruling in Miller et al. v. Bonta et al.

Ammo Prices Falling

Fri, 06/18/2021 - 08:53

Ammo prices across all calibers are coming down in price since April but remain well above their pre-COVID levels, according to Redditor “chainwaxologist,” sourcing data from Ammo Seek.

Readers are pretty familiar with the massive grab for guns and ammo during the virus pandemic and social unrest of the 2020s. The result of unprecedented demand resulted in gun and ammo prices reaching historic levels. At some points, there were even shortages.

Read the rest of the article for some neat visualization graphs. I knew it had become very expensive, but had no idea that at its peak ammo was 350% – 400% of the pre-Covid prices: https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/visualizing-rise-and-fall-ammo-prices

Hornady Critical Defense Ammunition Update

Wed, 05/19/2021 - 10:16

As we all know, everyone is faced with production bottlenecks right now and all the supply chains are stressed. In particular, the freight system is stressed, and we are seeing delays that are longer than normal.

Nickel Plating is a feature that is “nice” to have on cartridge cases, functionally it is not a “need” to have. We use outside vendors to nickel plate our cases. Currently, our turnaround time on nickel plating cartridge cases is 4 plus weeks, which is two weeks longer than normal. The additional delay becomes a significant bottleneck in the production of ammunition. After questioning resellers and consumers, the response has been, “We don’t care if it is plated, ship faster!”

Because of these issues, we have made the decision to suspend nickel plating on all of our Critical Defense pistol products. This is just a suspension and we will review this in six months, and resume when things return to reality!

Supreme Court: Warrantless Home Gun Confiscation Unconstitutional (9-0)

Mon, 05/17/2021 - 15:20

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that warrantless gun confiscation from Americans’ homes is unconstitutional, voting unanimously on the side of a Rhode Island man whose firearms were taken by law enforcement without a warrant after his wife expressed concerns that he might hurt himself.

According to Caniglia v Strom, a lower court had previously determined that police confiscating the guns without a warrant fell under the Fourth Amendment’s “community caretaking” exception, but a 9-0 vote from the nation’s top court struck down that ruling.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the unanimous opinion for the Supreme Court, stating that law enforcement can execute “many civic tasks in modern society,” but there is “not an open-ended license to perform them anywhere.”

“The very core of the Fourth Amendment,” Thomas wrote, is the “right of a man to retreat into his own home and there be free from unreasonable search and seizure.”

Glock Carbine Incoming?

Mon, 05/17/2021 - 10:49

A Glock Rifle?
At this point, all we can say is that it appears that a Glock rifle (or carbine) is on the horizon. Here’s what we know, and what we don’t know. Most of what you’ll see below is based on information first exposed by SpartanAT, the German blog that first unearthed the Glock rifle patents.

What We Do Know
We’re not looking at a conversion kit. No, this is for an actual rifle with a conventional upper, lower, bolt carrier group, barrel assembly, and forend design.

HUGE props to Stephanie @ Gun Mag Warehouse and SpartanAT for this information!!!

Ashley Hlebinsky Goes Nuclear In Congressional ‘Ghost Gun’ Hearing

Fri, 05/14/2021 - 11:53

If U.S. senators were hoping to give a lift to the Department of Justice’s proposed rule to redefine a firearm, they underestimated Ashley Hlebinsky.

She’s a historical powerhouse when it comes to guns. Hlebinsky testified before the Senate Judiciary’s Subcommittee on The Constitution, in a hearing titled: Stop Gun Violence: Ghost Guns. Hlebinsky started by shredding any pretenses of false authority by those using loaded terms and ended her opening statement reminding senators whom they represent.

“Firstly, I will not be using the term ghost gun and that’s because as a historian I try to be as precise as possible and the term is used more as a rhetorical tool, a marketing tool and because of that, it can create a false sense of authority on the subject,” Hlebinsky told the senators.

TX HB1927 Moves To Conference

Thu, 05/13/2021 - 11:43

House Bill (HB) 1927, the constitutional carry bill to allow the carry of a handgun in public without a permit moved over one more hurdle as the Texas House rejected the Senate amendments and requested a conference committee.

Texas Senate Approves Constitutional Carry

Thu, 05/06/2021 - 10:24

The Texas Senate has voted to advance a bill that will allow people to carry handguns in the state without a license, setting up the state to be the largest in the country to allow permitless carry.

The legislation passed by an 18-13 margin along party lines Wednesday evening. The bill would allow people 21 and older who can already legally own a gun to carry a handgun in public without the license, safety course and background check current law requires.

The bill now heads to the House, which passed similar legislation earlier this year but will not consider changes the Senate made to the bill before sending it to Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) desk.

The Senate passage of the legislation marks a significant victory for gun rights activists and Republicans, who had seen permitless carry legislation go nowhere in previous legislative sessions.

Ruger-57 Safety Recall

Wed, 05/05/2021 - 08:45

Products Subject to This Safety Bulletin
Potentially affected pistols include any Ruger-57 pistol with a serial number of 642-26274 or lower (including all Ruger-57 pistols with a “641” prefix). If your Ruger-57 pistol is within this range (641-00000 to 642-26274), you should follow the inspection procedure outlined below to determine whether your pistol requires a retrofit. Ruger-57 pistols with a serial number of 642-26275 and above are not affected by this Safety Bulletin.

Description of the Issue
In some rare instances, the internal “leg” of the right safety lever may crack or break, rendering the manual safety ineffective. If present, this condition may cause the manual safety to appear to be functioning properly when it is not. Although Ruger already instructs owners of Ruger-57 pistols to perform a function check before each use, we are requesting that all owners of potentially affected pistols perform this safety inspection immediately.
