The Truth About Guns

Enumerated Civil Rights Still Outweigh the Political Imperative to ‘Do Something’
By Lee Williams
While most Americans were spending time with family this Memorial Day weekend commemorating those who gave their lives in defense of this great country, a growing list of politicians and members of the gun-ban industry – aided and abetted by their friends in the legacy media – were busy conspiring how to best strip away the very rights so many brave men and women died to defend.
We don’t have to live this way.
Justice Department Will Review Police Tactics in Delayed Uvalde School Shooting Response
By Lindsay Whitehurst, AP
Since the Columbine High School massacre more than 20 years ago, police have been trained to quickly confront shooters in the horrific attacks that have followed.
But officers in Uvalde, Texas, took more than an hour to kill a shooter who massacred 19 children, a lapse of time that will likely be a key part of a Justice Department probe into the police response.
The rare federal review comes amid growing, agonized questions and shifting information from police.
FN’s New Multi-Role 509 Midsize Tactical Pistol
I had a chance to shoot FN’s 509 Midsize Tactical pistol at an event back in March. The new midsize version completes a tactical trio along with FN’s full-size 509 Tactical and the 509 Compact Tactical pistols. A number of us shot the hell out of the new gun which may be the ideal combination of size, performance and features for most people.
The 509 Midsize Tactical is in that Goldilocks size range where it’s a great choice for concealed carry, home defense or duty roles.

Colt’s New Rimfire Revolver: King Cobra Target in .22LR
We all know how crazy-popular the snake guns from Colt are, so it really comes as no surprise that the gun maker would launch another one at NRA. It might be a little bit of a surprise, though, that the newcomer is chambered in .22LR.
The new model is, in every way, a solid Colt King Cobra revolver, it’s just chambered in a more diminutive round than .357 Magnum. The cylinder is drilled for 10 rounds of .22LR and Colt says it’s a versatile gun useful for everything from plinking to competition shooting to hunting.

Gun Meme of the Day: This One’s a Little Edgy Edition
Well that’s…provocative. Funny in a “whoa” kinda way. Not entirely outside the realm of the possible or even the justified, though?

Springfield Armory XD-M Elite OSP in 10mm Auto for Bigger Booms
Do you love 10mm handguns? It seems like new models are being introduced with increasing frequency lately (about which I have zero complaints). Springfield Armory is joining in with their XD-M Elite OSP in 10mm Auto, a gun designed for either defensive use or handgun hunting.
This pistol is the latest addition to the company’s Elite lineup. It’s chambered in 10mm, but doesn’t lack for capacity. With 16 +1 rounds available, there’s no need to worry about running out as long as you have (and can afford) the ammo to keep it fed.
The Unintended Consequences of The Rush to Enact Red Flag Laws
The senseless murder of 19 children and two teachers at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas is leading to calls for more gun control. To some, “red flag” laws, also known as Extreme Risk Protection Orders, seem like the obvious solution. These laws allow judges to seize a person’s guns without a trial, based solely on a written complaint that the person might be a danger to themselves or others. All a judge needs is “reasonable suspicion.” …
It has always been possible to take a dangerous person’s guns away.
A Report From The Secret Service On How To Stop Most Mass Shooters
I’m a big fan of the LASR App and SIRT dry-fire training pistols, and regularly get e-mails from them with useful training information. They recently shared a great resource that gives us some important information in the wake of the Uvalde shooting. They didn’t provide a lot of commentary, but they did give us a link to a report by the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center.
The topic? Preventing mass killings in schools.
Hands On With the New Bond Arms Stinger Derringer
Bond Arms announced their new aluminum frame derringer, the Stinger, earlier this year. It’s Bond’s slimmest lightest gun, perfect for concealed carry and we had a chance to play with one at NRA on Saturday.
The Stinger is about half the width and just over half the weight of Bond’s popular standard size derringers.
The aluminum Stinger weighs 12 oz. while Bond’s steel Texas Defender is 20 oz.

New From Taurus: Executive Grade 856 Revolver
Taurus has launched a new sub-brand, in effect, to bring impressively high-quality firearms to market through its existing manufacturing, sales, and distribution channels. Perhaps akin to how Toyota created Lexus or TRD, or Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center line.
Called “Executive Grade,” it will be a line of Taurus models given special, hands-on attention during production to create more refined, higher-end finished products. The first of these is the Executive Grade 856 .38 Special revolver.

A Visit to Axil’s Booth for a Hearing Test and Custom Fitting
I shoot quite a lot, as you might imagine. I’ve also been shooting a heck of a lot of suppressed firearms, which I typically do without hearing protection on/in my ears because I’m often reviewing the performance of the suppressors themselves. While this is usually, in theory, “hearing safe,” that isn’t the case with every gun/ammo/silencer combination, plus repeated and long-term exposure can still cause hearing damage.
As I have warned others, your hearing doesn’t grow back.
HEY, LOOK AT ME: Oregon Man Surrenders His Two-Gun Arsenal To Police After Uvalde Massacre
We all thought that Florida Man sets the hightest bar for head-scratching moments. Now an Oregon man by the name of Ben Beers rolled his only ace in the game of conspicuous virtue signaling to step up and challenge Florida Man to hold his beer(s).
Mr. Beers’ claim to fame: he has publicized his act of contrition in surrendering his AR-15 rifle and a 9mm pistol to the Hillsboro, Oregon police department for destruction as a result of the Uvalde school massacre.
New From Dead Air: SIERRA-5 5.56 NATO Silencer
Dead Air Silencers released their first dedicated .223/5.56 suppressor, the Sierra-5, at the NRA show this weekend. It’s a compact, heavy-duty silencer designed specifically for 5.56 use without barrel length restrictions.
Available with either a Dead Air Xeno or KeyMo mount included, the Sierra-5 is threaded with the “industry standard” 1.375×24 mount pitch so the sky’s the limit for choosing and using your favorite mounting system
I like the checkering on the body.

A 10mm Revival? SIG Officially Launches The 10mm P320-XTEN
Whether you’re a SIG SAUER fan or not, it’s hard to ignore their P320 pistol. Its innovative modular design and good functionality and ergonomics have not only earned it an enduring presence in the civilian and law enforcement markets, but it’s also become the primary sidearm for the United States Armed Forces with its variants, the M17 and M18 pistols.
Earlier this month, Dan Zimmerman managed to get his hands on one before its official launch at the inaugural SIG SAUER Freedom Days event, and both from his article about it and my conversations with him, it’s a winner.

Houston NRA – Light Crowds on Both Sides of the Street
The story in Houston: turnout. Both the protesters outside the George R. Brown Convention Center where the NRA is holding it’s annual meeting and exhibits and the attendance inside on the convention floor and those bothering to sit in on the association’s annual meeting were far lighter today.
Outside, as with yesterday’s far larger crowd, police kept the protesters across the street from the convention center. The number who showed up to waive signs and chant slogans at NRA attendees today was down sharply.

New From POF USA: Phoenix 9mm Subgun Style Pistol
Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) released the Phoenix 9mm pistol at NRAAM this year. It’s a straight blowback AR-style gun with a non-reciprocating, forward-mounted side charging handle on its monolithic upper receiver and a vertical Picatinny rail at the rear.
Magazines are unique to the Phoenix and hold 35 rounds.
Mag release and safety are fully ambidextrous, and the charging handle can be swapped from left to right side.

All Kids Should Know What To Do In An Active Killer Situation
This may not be a popular opinion to put out there, but as a mom and a reasonably serious gun owner — I’ve made it my entire career, after all — it needs to be said. If you have kids, you are responsible for giving them the tools to make it in life, and that includes teaching kids of all ages what to do if they’re ever faced with an active killer.
Does that seem harsh?
FBI Reveals Six ‘Active Shooter’ Incidents Stopped By Armed Americans in 2021
Why is it that America’s legacy media refuse to report on the proven benefits of firearm ownership? Is it because doing so would reflect poorly upon the (mostly) Democrats who would like to legislate away our God-given right to keep and bear arms?
Here’s another story the New York Times has failed to mention: everyday armed Americans stopped not one, not two, but six active shooters in 2021 alone – nearly 10% of active shooter incidents reported across America in 2021.
