The Truth About Guns

The Last Fall
I’ve watched him. We all have.
For years now, his sightings have been topics of conversation. If a neighbor passed him on the dirt road, they’d be sure to stop and tell you, “I saw that big buck running toward your south field yesterday.” Or, “I saw him down by the headwaters, chasing a doe.”
He was always running. And he was always chasing a doe.
His impressive antlers made him easy to identify.
After The Michigan School Shooting, We Need More Gun Control Laws. Apparently.
Maybe time really is a flat circle, because here we are again. Another broken kid — who had raised red flags and alarmed everyone around him — got his hands on a gun and opened fire in his school, killing and wounding people that his sad, damaged psyche had concluded had somehow wronged him.
As if on cue, all of the same familiar faces took the opportunity to blame gun rights supporters — including, of course the NRA — and claim that the Oxford High School shooting is the latest evidence that America needs more gun control laws to stop horrors such as these from happening.
Baldwin: I Didn’t Pull the Trigger on the Gun I Fired, Killing One and Wounding Another
In his first interview since the deadly Oct. 21 shooting, a tearful Baldwin told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos he has “no idea” how the live bullet ended up in the firearm.
“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” Baldwin said in a preview clip of the interview released on Wednesday.
“I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never,” he said.

Things That Don’t Suck: SITKA Drifter 110L Duffle Bag
I was heading back to Africa, first to Namibia to try my hand (and luck) at hunting leopard and then to Mozambique for two trips to the Zambeze Delta Safaris‘ Coutada 11. All the trips required a travel bag that was, simply put, form-fitting to limited space in Land Cruisers, helicopters, and small planes.
At the same time, I needed a large enough container to fit in all sorts of hunting equipment, including shooting rests, hard-sided ammo boxes, high-topped shoes for use in swamps, etc, etc.

November Background Check Total Makes 2021 The Second Highest Gun Sales Year on Record
November’s adjusted NICS background check total of 1.543 million, which includes the heavy Black Friday week sales, has already made 2021 the second biggest year for gun sales on record.
The NSSF’s Mark Oliva had this to say . . .
The report of November’s figures puts 2021 as the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, behind only 2021’s outlier year of 21 million background checks for a gun sale.
Nevada Judge to Strike Down Major Portions of Nevada Gun Ghost Gun Ban

Baldwin ‘Rust’ Movie Set Shooting Investigators Try to Track Source of Live Ammunition
By Morgan Lee, AP
Authorities pursued new leads Tuesday on possible sources of live ammunition involved in actor Alec Baldwin’s fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of a western movie, as they searched the premises of an Albuquerque-based firearms and ammunition supplier.
The search took place after a provider of firearms and ammunition to the ill fated movie production for “Rust” told investigators that he “may know” where live rounds came from, describing ammunition he received from a friend in the past that had been “reloaded” by assembly from parts.
Bloomberg: First Amendment Exercise Zones Should Be Second Amendment-Free Zones
The National Rifle Association and its elected allies seem to think that [open carry at protests] should be the new normal. They want civilians armed to the teeth in state after state, city after city. As awful as that prospect might be, it is nonetheless gaining traction. Twenty-one states now allow the open and concealed carry of firearms without a permit — a status that gun activists call “constitutional carry.” Six states joined that list this year, most recently Texas in September (despite a majority of residents opposing the legislation).

Gun Review: TARA Aerospace TM-9X 9mm Pistol
Out of Montenegro, TARA Aerospace has introduced the newest version of their striker fired polymer framed duty gun, the TM-9X.
What gets most of the media attention on the TM-9X is the trigger, which is a little different than most. This is a striker fired system that also allows for restrikes like a traditional DA/SA firearm. TARA bills it as the “DARE System.” standing for Double Action Rapid Engagement. Think of it less as DA/SA and more of a double action trigger with a short reset.

By Daisy Nguyen, AP

Gun Review: Ruger M77 Hawkeye African in 9.3x62mm
A few years ago, on a south Texas Nilgai hunt with Bill Wilson, a fellow hunter hammered a big boar hog with a Ruger rifle chambered in 9.3X62mm. The absolutely devastating effect the round had on the big running pig was almost comical. I’ve been looking for a Ruger M77 Hawkeye African so chambered ever since.
After a few years of searching, I happened to find one in the gun library of my local Cabela’s.
