Ask Josh: Are Carbon Fiber Gun Parts Worth It?

Sun, 05/09/2021 - 10:00

Today’s Ask Josh comes from Dale R. Dale asks a reasonable question after seeing some of my guns . . .

“What makes carbon fiber parts so expensive. I see you like them, but are they worth it for me?”

Things That Don’t Suck: The Lynx Defense Byte Discreet Case

Sat, 05/08/2021 - 17:00

I love the current large-format pistol caliber pistols in the firearm world. That’s a helluva mouthful just to say ‘braced pistol.’ You know, guns like the Ruger PC Charger, the Micro Scorpion, the SIG MPX K, the CMMG Banshee, and all the other micro pistol caliber braced pistols. I just call them subguns and blame that on my love of submachine guns. I was a kid raised on ‘Die Hard’ and ‘Cobra’ so what do you expect?

Sat, 05/08/2021 - 15:00

While bulletproof vests receive NIJ laboratory-tested ballistic protection ratings and, therefore, don’t really need to be tested by your friendly neighborhood gun blog, I’m not one to pass on what’s basically guaranteed to be a fun time. So, we hit the range with a BulletSafe Level IIIA Bulletproof Vest and we shot it.

We shot it up close with .44 Magnum, +P+ 9mm, 7.5 FK, and 12-gauge 00 magnum buckshot.

Is .223/5.56 Enough to Hunt Feral Hogs?

Sat, 05/08/2021 - 13:00

By Bryce Booher

Over the last couple years, I’ve been on numerous hog hunting trips in Texas. Naturally, as a gun guy, I’m always interested to see what rifles and ammunition others in my group are using while on these hunts. I’ve literally seen them all, from bolt action .243’s, Ruger 10/44s, 300 RUMs, and the list goes on. Some are scoped, some are suppressed, some are heavy, and some aren’t.

My personal hog gun is a suppressed 6.5 Grendel SBR with a 1-4x optic.

BPI Longshot Event Features Bergara and CVA Rifles

Sat, 05/08/2021 - 10:00

BPI picked a hell of a day to showcase their rifles. The night before the shoot, a huge thunderstorm moved through North Texas. At least one tornado touched down, golf ball-sized hail was scattered along a 50 mile area, and it was the start of three days of hard rain.

Still, along with Bergara, one of BPI Outdoors’ major brands is CVA, makers of some of the best modern muzzleloaders in the world.

OMG! The Supreme Court Might Rule the Second Amendment Means What it Says! OMG!

Sun, 05/02/2021 - 08:00

The NRA has been relentless in its campaign to create an alternate history regarding guns and the myth that the Constitution somehow guarantees individual gun rights. Only a few decades ago, such notions were considered an exotic legal argument. It wasn’t until 2008 that a deeply divided Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller […]
