The Truth About Guns

California Doubles the Tax on Guns and Ammo (At Least Until It’s Challenged in Court)
California will ban people from carrying firearms in most public places while doubling the taxes on guns and ammunition sold in the state under two new laws Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Tuesday that will test the limits of the U.S. Supreme Court’s new standard for interpreting the Second Amendment.
The federal government already taxes the sale of guns and ammunition at either 10% or 11%, depending on the type of gun.

This is the gun owner’s fault. Nobody should own a 308 when 6.5 CM is available. See HERE and HERE. (49% tongue-in-cheek)

Congress Needs to Act Now to Restore Funding to Schools With Hunting Safety Programs
Congress has no shortage of “must-do” chores on the list in the face of a potential government shutdown. Among those tasks is passing legislation to restore federal funding for hunter education and archery in the schools.
Congress can tell President Joe Biden and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona that their attempt to starve schools of these essential programs is over. The U.S. House of Representatives just passed U.S. Rep. Mark Green’s (R-Tenn.) H.R.

Gun Control Orgs Directing More of Their Fire at the Nefarious ‘Gun Industry’
For decades, the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex, otherwise known as the gun control industry and their stenographers in the press, have primarily directed their attention and their attacks at the big bad NRA. They even referred to the NRA when talking about “the gun industry.”
It never seemed to matter much that the NRA is actually a member organization made up of millions of individuals. It similarly seemed to escape their notice that the actual gun industry — manufacturers, retailers, ranges, etc.

CRPA, SAF, GOA and Others Jointly File Federal Lawsuit Challenging California’s Carry Restriction Law
By Chuck Michel
Multiple gun owner’s rights advocacy groups and individuals have joined together and filed a Second Amendment challenge to Senate Bill (SB2) in the United States District Court. The lawsuit is known as May v. Bonta and you can see the filings so far here. We are already in contact with the state’s lawyers, are working out a briefing schedule, and have a tentative hearing date on a motion for preliminary injunction on December 4, 2023.
FPC Sues California Over Just-Signed SB2 ‘Sensitive Places’ Carry Restriction Law
California Governor signs numerous gun control bills: pic.twitter.com/F86hawkRqs
— Firearms Policy Coalition (@gunpolicy) September 26, 2023
Today, California’s proudly hoplophobic, perpetually self-promoting Governor Gavin Newsom indulged all of the California legislature’s worst anti-gun instincts and signed into laws a huge slate of gun rights restriction bills. One of them, naturally, was SB2 a classic Bruen response bill meant to limit the places permit-holding Californians can legally carry a firearm.
Now I Know Why So Many Hunters Can’t Wait for Dove Season in Texas
Saturday was the first day of fall, but you wouldn’t have known it if you were in south Texas. That’s where JWT and I were, mostly sitting under the shade of a tree, tucked between some cacti in 100-degree heat, with shotguns on our laps and our eyes fixed on the sky.
We were posted up on the edge of a medium size field with a small watering hole at Frio County Hunts at the Wilson Ranch.
Lucid Optics’ New E7 Enclosed Emitter Blue Dot Sight. Yes, Blue.
Earlier this year, Lucid rolled out their new E7 enclosed emitter red dot sight. Now, in a first, they’re making a version of the E7 with a blue dot. While we’d been told that the human eye is most sensitive to green light, Lucid claims blue is the most effective color. We can’t wait to give that a try. Here’s Lucid’s press release . . .
Lucid Optics, a pioneer in cutting-edge optics technology, is proud to announce the launch of the E7 reflex sight with an innovative Blue Reticle.
Gun-Grabbing NJ Senator Opposed Arms Sales to Problematic Countries…Unless They Paid Him…Allegedly
To say U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey) has been a thorn in the side of the firearm industry would be an understatement. The gun-controlling politician has railed for stricter gun control, called for bans on entire classes of firearms, taken money from gun control groups to advance the gun ban agenda and has done all he could to undo the export reforms for the firearm industry to reduce redundancies and regulatory costs associated with export licensing, while increasing national security.
Trump Visits Palmetto State Armory Store While Campaigning in South Carolina, ‘I Want to Buy One’ [VIDEO]
Former President Donald Trump is campaigning in South Carolina today and stopped in to visit our friends at Palmetto State Armory in Summerville. He picked up a Donald Trump edition pistol and announced, ‘I want to buy one!’ Of course, being under multiple federal indictments, he couldn’t pass the background check.
Trump could do worse than being seen at a gun store trying to shore up his support among gun owners.
Vintage Gun Review: Savage Enfield No.4 MK1*
There are few guns that capture the imagination like those from World War II. I got into shooting because of my interest in these classic weapons and my love of history. Finding these guns at shows or local stores became a sort of sport to me and I loved the idea of getting my hands on a piece of living history. In this article I will be taking a look at a unique rifle of American manufacture destined for British service: the Savage Enfield No.

Intuit Changes Its Policy, Will No Longer Exclude Gun Companies as Customers
If you’ve frequented these pages over the years, you know that all sorts of companies, many of them financial institutions, have stopped doing business with firearms makers, retailers, and other companies associated with guns. They were urged to adopt that policy by the Obama administration’s Operation Choke Point which threatened banks and other firms that did business with the gun industry, legal cannabis sellers, porn producers, and other disfavored businesses.
One of those companies that cut ties with gun businesses was Intuit.
Obscure Object of Desire: Mossberg M44US .22LR Training Rifle
US military service weapons fall into two categories: expensive or impossible to obtain. Machine guns are virtually impossible, and everything else is expensive. Look at the prices of Garands or those CMP 1911s. They certainly aren’t cheap. Of course, as wel all know, only a Sith deals in absolutes. If you want an affordable, completely possible-to-obtain service weapon, then look at training rifles like the Mossberg M44US.
Training rifles, sometimes known as cadet rifles, were used to train US troops on the cheap.
Blackhawk’s Statement on the Safety of its T-Series Light-Bearing Duty Holsters
A little context here is useful. In July, SIG SAUER issued a statement after video showed a a Connecticut police officer’s P320 discharge in his holster during a scuffle. After reviewing the video and determining the pistol wasn’t fully seated in a Safariland light-bearing holster, SIG then issued another statement cautioning those who carry in Blackhawk and Safariland light-bearing duty holsters.
That caution was motivated by the fact that holsters for light-bearing handguns naturally have larger openings and are more prone to objects working their way inside near the trigger (see the video in this post as an example of that).
Rachel Monroe Tries Desperately To Understand Texas…And Guns
…I believed that I wouldn’t be able to understand where I lived unless I wrapped my head around the guns themselves. No other state is so closely associated with the mythology of the gun, and, by raw numbers, Texas has more of them than anywhere else in the U.S. (Per capita, our rates of firearm ownership are closer to the national average.) No matter where I go, when I tell people where I live, they grin and point gun fingers at me.
Guns Are For Everyone: Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit at the SIG SAUER Academy
The first day’s events at the 2023 Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit in Epping, N.H., were cut short due to rain. The last day’s official competition matches were threatened by Tropical Storm Lee, swirling out over the Atlantic Ocean and bringing a little rain and wind to the Northeast and the SIG SAUER Academy and Experience Center campus.
No matter. The competitors at this year’s ADSS have been through more difficult challenges.
Pro Tip: Beware of Gun-Related Deed Restrictions When Buying Property
By Anner
I write this as a word of caution, so that you may avoid the same mistake I made. I was born on farm land in west Texas, and raised properly with an abundance of opportunities to safely and productively shoot firearms. My family moved around the country to follow my father’s job, and we enjoyed firearms even in commie states such as Illinois (still have my FOID card as a reminder of our brethren fighting the good fight).
Whistling Past the Graveyard: Gun Control Industry Thrilled by Biden’s Ministry of Gun Control
Gun control activists who have been angered by President Joe Biden’s inaction that he hasn’t done more to “combat gun violence” have forced the president’s hand. Their disappointment with the administration has often spilled over into public media reports.
The president is so desperate to generate some kind of excitement that he caved to their demands and during a White House Rose Garden gun control speech announced the creation of a new federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
