New Glock 9mm Released

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 09:06

But it’s not what you’re thinking. TFB is reporting that Glock has released a G19c with a Gen4 frame. Yep.

Next year the big announcement will probably be the 23c Gen4, then the Glock 20 extended slide compensated model on a Gen2 frame in OD green.

Sigh.

May the 4th be With Glock?

Sun, 05/04/2014 - 11:25

Someone please focus your Jedi powers and give me some advanced notice about these new Glock models that Glockmeister is claiming that will be released tomorrow. I’ve heard a couple rumblings from other places about this too, but Glockmeister seems to be the only place that has a specific date (May 5th).

Are they trolling us? Is this for real? Who knows. I’ve said it before, I’m kind of over it. If a singlestack 9mm Glock gets released, I’ll buy one. If not, no big whoop.

Tip: Lee Value Turret Spent Primer Fix

Sat, 05/03/2014 - 19:07

(Link for Email/RSS Readers)

Since getting setup with the Lee Value Turret press, I’ve been having about 10% of my spent primers fall out onto the floor while reloading. This isn’t a huge deal, but it’s annoying constantly having to sweep them up.

I made a quick, almost zero cost solution for this by molding some kydex around the three posts of the press to act as a guide for the primers as they fall out of the ram. This guides all of them into the base of the press, where I have drilled a hole in the workbench, and the primers fall through and get collected in a coffee can.

It’s quick, easy, and it seems to work 100% of the time.

Budget Reloading Setup Tour

Thu, 05/01/2014 - 10:13

Y’all asked for it, so here goes:

(Link for Email/RSS Readers)

Quick note: It looks like my press is moving a bit when I work the lever. This is because my tripod was in the way, so I didn’t have my foot on the workbench like I do when I’m loading normally.

Georgia Quietly Gains Campus Carry

Wed, 04/30/2014 - 14:39

Several weeks back while working on show prep for a podcast episode Ben and I were going line by line through the Georgia “guns everywhere” bill. We had heard that the bill included campus carry, the ability for teachers to carry, and a bunch of other stuff.

Adventures in Reloading #3 – Go Buy This

A long time ago Ben told me about this socket timer thing that he bought that would allow his tumbler to run for a certain amount of time, then shut it off.

WRAL’s Publishes Reasonable Piece on Guns

Wed, 04/30/2014 - 09:36

WRAL (the same folks who at one time published a database of concealed carry permit holders in Wake county) published a very reasonable piece on guns yesterday. In the article they reference two young kids who were killed in the area recently after finding an unsecured gun in their home. They actually took the time to go out to PDHSC and interview the staff there about how to safely store a gun, and they show some of the locks, fast access safes, and other things.

You see, contrary to what the anti-gun crowd would have you believe, responsible, law abiding gun owners don’t think that children should have access to guns. Go watch the video, I thought it was pretty well done.

Video: Dry Fire Basics

Tue, 04/29/2014 - 09:09

Ben shot a quick video about the basics of dry fire. After we did Episode 66 of the podcast, we received even more questions about what constructive dry fire actually looks like. This will be the first in a series of videos Ben is doing about dry fire.

Summer EDC – 79

Mon, 04/28/2014 - 00:17

This week we talk about changing our EDC for summer. Ben is looking to change his knife and flashlight. He’s planning on removing the clip from his pocket knife and carrying it in his pocket, as well as moving to a smaller flashlight. I’m pretty content with my summer carry gear, but sometimes I move things around a bit. I’m a board shorts and flip-flops kind of guy when the weather is nice, so being able to carry concealed, and have all of my EDC gear with me then is important.

Hand Made Spalted Maple 1911 Grips

Sun, 04/27/2014 - 12:37

My cousin Alex sent me these pictures yesterday of some grips he’s making for his Kimber 1911.

When he first told me about them, I pictured then in my head on a stainless 1911, but I think they will look even better on the dark blued pistol.

This reminds me that I need to finish the micarta scales I started for my Becker BK2 over a year ago…

Adventures in Reloading #1 – It’s too Long

Fri, 04/25/2014 - 18:06

In episode 78 of the podcast I mentioned that I had loaded up and shot my first reloads. I loaded a bunch of 125gr round nose bullets from The Blue Bullets (local NC company, you should support them) over some Unique powder that I picked up from Lucky 13 Cast Bullets (also a local NC company, you should support them too) and headed off to the Monday night Action Pistol match at the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center. It was a little unnerving shooting my reloads for the first time in a match setting, with all of my friends looking on behind me, but all went well.

Could the Glock Unicorn be Released this Week?

Thu, 04/24/2014 - 12:23

I’m hearing some rumblings that there may be another new model from Glock released this weekend at the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Could it be the unicorn singlestack 9mm, or will it be a subcompact, doublestack pistol in 9×25 dillon? Sadly, that seems more likely at this point.

NRA Goes Full Retard with Tillis Endorsement

Wed, 04/23/2014 - 12:01

Sigh.

If we’re rating candidates solely on their 2A stance, Tillis has shown to be just OK. I don’t think he’s as bad as some are saying when it comes to 2A issues, but we have a better 2A candidate who has earned GRNC’s endorsement: Greg Brannon.

Personally, I’m not in love with Brannon either, but if we’re rating candidates solely on their 2A stance (which is what the NRA and GRNC should be doing), Brannon is the clear winner.

5 Things That I Wish Would Go Away

Wed, 04/23/2014 - 00:24

1. Clip Holsters. If it doesn’t cover the trigger guard, it’s worthless. I don’t care if the gun has a manual safety, or what. Don’t even get me started on the ones that have a plug that goes up the muzzle. Garbage.

Reloading Reloaded – 78

Tue, 04/22/2014 - 01:44

After spending a lot of time reading and consulting with trusted friends this week I came up with a load for my first 9mm reloads. I loaded 10 of them, and was planning on leaving it at that until I had a chance to shoot them. I mentioned it to Ben, and he said “Well, load 60 more and come shoot the match on Monday”, So I did. Tonight I went and shot the WCFETC Action Pistol match with 100 untested rounds. I didn’t know if they would shoot, or explode, or what, but as it turned out, they were just fine. In the episode we talk about some of the things that I ran into while loading the first 100 rounds.

DIY Tumbling Media Separator

Mon, 04/21/2014 - 09:18

After getting my reloading press all put together and ready to rock, I found myself with a bunch of clean brass in the tumbler with no way to separate it from the crushed walnut media. I looked around the garage, and found a stack of 3 little trash cans that appeared in my garage about the time of our wedding a few months back.
