Are You Ready for Arthur?

Tue, 07/01/2014 - 23:27

In about the last 24hrs tropical storm Arthur has went from a small tropical depression off the coast of Florida to the first named tropical storm of the season. Weather headlines earlier today were saying that the storm was strengthening faster than expected, and by Thursday night it’s possible we could  have a Category 2 hurricane right here in NC.

Chances are this storm will move some sand on the outer banks, and head out to sea to die, but there’s also a chance it could strengthen more, run into Myrtle Beach or Wilmington, and track right up into the Triangle.

All this to say: You’ve got a day and a half to get ready.

Do you have a weeks worth of non perishable food and water for everyone in your family and your pets? Gas in the cars? A plan to get out of town if needed?

Get to work, if your anything like me, you’ve got some work to do.

[Podcast] FN FNS 9mm Long Slide Review – 88

Mon, 06/30/2014 - 00:05

For the past several weeks I’ve had the FN FNS 9mm Long Slide in for review. Ben and I spent some time with it on the range, just shooting for accuracy, and then this weekend we shot two matches, and we took turns shooting it at each match. Saturday night I shot the FN FNS at the Shoot2Live IDPA match in Raleigh at PDHSC. On Sunday it was Ben’s turn to shoot the FN FNS at the brand new Triad Tactical Training Center IDPA match just outside Asheboro, NC.

Jerry Miculek Vs. A Bump Fire Stock

Thu, 06/26/2014 - 08:37

(Link for Email/RSS Readers)

This is great. Looks like IV8888 edges him out a little on the speed, but after reviewing the hits Miculek is the clear winner.

Second Amendment Foundation Sues North Carolina

Wed, 06/25/2014 - 17:31

I had no idea this was coming, but I couldn’t be happier to see it!

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today filed a lawsuit in federal district court in North Carolina on behalf of an Australian citizen who legally resides in the state, but cannot obtain a concealed carry permit under a state law that only allows citizens to get such permits.

This is great news! We have plenty of people who are permanent residents in our great state who may not be able to get citizenship for one reason or another. These people have every bit the same right to self defense as those of us that were lucky enough to be born here, and the state of NC should absolutely have to issue permits to carry to these people.

I think this will be a slam dunk win for SAF, and I’ll be following it closely. Stay tuned.

The “Beer Can” AR-15

Tue, 06/24/2014 - 16:44

A friend of mine lives up in Michigan where pop cans and beer cans have a $0.10 deposit that is paid when you buy them, and then you return the can to the store and get your $0.10 back. Picking up cans is a big thing in Michigan, and hardly anyone tosses a can in the trash.

Cowhide vs. Horsehide Holsters

Sat, 06/21/2014 - 17:14

Years ago when I purchased my first Crossbreed Supertuck holster, I had heard from many sources that the horsehide version was the best in hot climates because the horsehide wasn’t as absorbent as cowhide, and because of this it would keep sweat off of your pistol.

NC Leg to Durham: Take Your Gun Registry and Shove it!

Wed, 06/18/2014 - 17:17

The NC State Legislature passed Senate Bill 226 today, the bill that eliminates the Jim Crow era gun registry in Durham County. The Durham County gun registry was a racist thing allowed by the state legislature back in 1935. Statutorily it would have been illegal for any other county in the state to operate a gun registry, so why should Durham county be allowed to run a gun registry when no other county can? Racism.

Law of Self Defense with Andrew Branca – 86

Sun, 06/15/2014 - 23:14

This week we talk with Andrew Branca, the author of Law of Self Defense (that we reviewed back in episode 51). We talk about the basics of what Stand Your Ground laws ACTUALLY are, and not what the media tells us they are. We’ve also had a lot of listener questions about self defense “insurance” so I picked Andrew’s brain about that as well, and he thinks the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network has the best model for this sort of thing.
