Surprise: Venezuelan Gangsters Trafficking Guns In U.S.

Sat, 02/08/2025 - 07:00

The Biden Administration’s open-border policy over the past four years has been dangerous to our country in several different ways. Of course, one of the most obvious is that Biden’s policy encouraged hardened criminals, including murderers, rapists and child traffickers, to stream into the country and prey on American citizens.

It should come as no surprise to TTAG readers that when members of the vicious Venezuela gang Tren de Aragua crossed the border, they didn’t come here just for the free phones, taxpayer-funded lodging and to pursue the American dream.

Trading Shears for Shots, Barber Cuts Loose on Bandit in Self-Defense

Fri, 02/07/2025 - 14:32

A man strode into a San Antonio barbershop looking for more than just a little off the sides and began waving a gun and demanding wallets and purses from the patrons in the establishment.

When one of the barbers, a 26-year-old man who was part owner of the business, didn’t comply quickly enough, the bandit began pistol whipping him. He then turned toward the other owner of the shop, a 51-year-old woman and showing he was full of tricks, pulled out a handful of zip ties.

Armed Pilot Stops Teen Attempting A Planejacking

Fri, 02/07/2025 - 12:30

Wouldn’t the world be a crazy place if a 15-year-old boy walked into an airport with an AR-style rifle, demanded an aircraft, then proceeded to the airfield to planejack one himself? Well, get out your straight jackets because that’s exactly the world we live in. Thankfully, the old adage about a good guy with a gun is still a thing.

In an ordeal that lasted approximately 10 minutes, according to airport director Paul Mehrlich, an unidentified 15-year-old boy stormed the Texarkana Regional Airport in Arkansas around 7:30 AM on February 4, waving around what has been described as an AR-style rifle and demanding his own private aircraft.

Gun Review: Benelli Lupo in .243 Win – A Wolf in the Woods

Fri, 02/07/2025 - 10:30

Benelli’s Lupo, Italian for wolf, is a name that suits this rifle perfectly. Sleek, adaptable and undeniably lethal in the right hands, the Lupo is Benelli’s first foray into bolt-action rifles and has been around now for a few years. Like its shotguns, the Lupo showcases the company’s knack for blending modern engineering with refined aesthetics. My time with the .243 Win model proved it’s a predator of the highest order, whether you’re chasing whitetails in the woods or punching paper at the range.

Will N.C. Be The 30th Constitutional Carry State?

Fri, 02/07/2025 - 06:30

If there’s one thing that gun-ban proponents really seem to hate, it is constitutional, or “permitless” carry. They like to describe such laws as “expanding Second Amendment rights” or “letting anyone carry a dangerous weapon.”

In fact, those descriptions couldn’t be further from the truth. What state legislatures that pass constitutional carry laws are really doing is deregulating the process of carrying a firearm for self-defense.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms.

Blind Man Gets Carry Permit To Push For Qualification Requirements

Thu, 02/06/2025 - 12:30

A blind man from Indiana who obtained his concealed carry permit is using that experience to advocate for stricter laws regarding who may carry a concealed firearm for self-defense. And he is also attracting considerable media attention in the process.

According to a report at keyc.com, Terry Sutherland sought a permit in his home state of Indiana, even though the state has a constitutional carry law, and he didn’t need one to legally carry a firearm there.

Another ATF Horror Story: Federal Air Marshall Jailed Over Fake Silencer Charges

Thu, 02/06/2025 - 10:27

David Schieferle, who spent 20 years as a U.S. Air Marshal, served eight months behind bars in the Miami Federal Detention Center – which he described as a “hellhole” – 10 months on home confinement wearing an electronic ankle monitor, and is currently on probation for the next two-and-a-half years. Yet, he’s still willing to risk even more time behind bars through a new trial by claiming his first attorney was incompetent and that he never broke any law.

“The ATF is really screwing over law abiding Americans.

NM: Bill Would Repeal 7-Day Waiting Period

Thu, 02/06/2025 - 06:30

We reported last year about this time how New Mexico lawmakers had passed a measure mandating a seven-day waiting period for gun purchases, and just how ineffective such laws are at curbing violent crime or suicides.

The final version of HB 129, which was signed into law by Gov. Lujan Grisham, mandated a seven-day waiting period on any gun buyer, other than a concealed handgun license holder, who clears an FBI background check to purchase a gun.

Fundraisers Help Families of Hunters Killed in Plane Crash

Wed, 02/05/2025 - 14:00

It was a shock to many Americans last week when American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter collided in midair causing both aircraft to plunge into the icy Potomac River alongside Reagan National Airport within sight of Washington, D.C. Sixty-four people on the jet and three in the helicopter were all killed. It was the first fatal passenger aircraft crash in the United States since 2009. While crews continue to work to retrieve all of the wreckage for the FAA investigation, the Unified Command reported yesterday that all 67 of the bodies have been recovered.

Rep. Mike Lee Introduces SHUSH Act

Wed, 02/05/2025 - 10:30

Republicans in Congress are making another effort to deregulate firearm suppressors, devices designed to protect shooters’ hearing, which other civilized countries have not only permitted but encouraged for years.

Introduced by U.S. Rep. Mike Lee, R-Utah, the “Silencers Help Us Save Hearing Act,” aka SHUSH Act, would change current law and treat silencers the same as other firearms accessories.

Senate cosponsors of the SHUSH Act include Republican Sens. Rick Scott of Florida, Pete Rickets of Nebraska, Roger Marshall of Kansas and John Curtis of  Utah.

Wed, 02/05/2025 - 08:30

A Texas man was arrested after authorities say he placed a loaded gun in a 4-year-old special needs student’s backpack before dropping her off at school. A potential disaster was averted, and no injuries were reported thanks to the quick work of a teacher and school administrators who were able to identify the danger early on and bring in authorities to secure the firearm.

The incident occurred on January 23 at Jessup Elementary School in Houston.

Florida: DeSantis Proposes ‘Second Amendment Summer’ Tax Holiday

Wed, 02/05/2025 - 06:31

We’ve chronicled over the past several months how anti-gun politicians in several less gun-friendly states have passed, or are trying to pass, legislation levying additional taxes on the purchase of guns, ammunition and gun-related gear. In fact, during last year’s elections, Colorado voters approved a referendum that will impose an additional 6.5% excise tax on dealer sales of firearms, ammunition and accessories.

California also has such a law, an 11% excise tax, which is basically a sin tax, although owning guns is constitutionally protected, not a “sin.” Still, anti-gunners seem to love raising money from lawful gun owners at any opportunity.

Smith & Wesson New Volunteer X .308 … A Competition-Ready AR-10

Tue, 02/04/2025 - 16:59

The world of AR-platform rifles continues to steadily expand. You can get an AR in almost any caliber, from .22 LR up through some elephant-stompers. I own a few, ranging in caliber from .22 up through .450 Bushmaster. Some other caliber ARs I own include one 9mm, a couple of .223/5.56mms and one 7.62×39. I’ve taken deer with the 7.62, and my son used the .450 during deer season. They are certainly very useful firearms.

Will Maine Governor Derail Red-Flag Push?

Tue, 02/04/2025 - 12:38

Last year, Maine lawmakers passed a sweeping anti-gun measure, which included a three-day waiting period that became law because Gov. Janet Mills neither signed nor vetoed it. Mills’ support for various gun control laws raised concern among gun owners and sportsmen across the state, but her veto of a so-called “assault weapons” ban last May offered gun owners some optimism.

Now, it appears that Gov. Mills might be siding with gun rights groups against a growing effort by state Democrats to get a red-flag law referendum put on the statewide ballot, according to a report at mainepublic.org.

Wyoming House Passes Repeal Of Gun-Free Zones By A Landslide

Tue, 02/04/2025 - 11:00

The Wyoming House has voted 50-10 overwhelmingly in favor of HB 172, “Repeal Gun Free Zones and Preemption Amendments.” Now headed to the Senate, HB 172 will potentially allow concealed carry in schools, government buildings and meetings, including college and university sporting events not serving alcohol. With the history of the bill dating back 12 years, this effort marks the 10th endeavor to get it through the Wyoming Legislature and passed into law. A similar measure, passed by the House in 2024, was killed in a Senate committee but resurrected by former Sheridan Senator Dave Kinskey.

Dems Go Hogg Wild, Sprint Further Left

Tue, 02/04/2025 - 09:00

If you have any doubt whether the Democrat Party learned anything from its devastating loss of the presidency, U.S. House and U.S. Senate during the 2024 elections, you now can set those doubts aside. Instead of realizing just how outside the American mainstream their leftwing party platform is, Democrats doubled down on tone-deaf with their recent election of David Hogg as party vice chairman.

Hogg, 24, a totally unlikeable liberal activist who made himself a household name after surviving a mass murder at a school in Florida, will serve as a major party figurehead alongside three other vice chairs and newly elected party chair Ken Martin.

The Hit And Miss Of Gun Shot Detection Technology

Mon, 02/03/2025 - 15:16

Gunshot detection technology has been rolled out in various cities across the country as an aid to law enforcement agencies for both tracking and reporting firearm violence. ShotSpotter, one such system deployed in parts of Virginia and Chicago, among other locations, is designed to detect audible gunshot signals and determine the location of the report. The technology has seen mixed results, however, with tangible benefits in places like Virginia Beach and Newport News, while at the same time being decommissioned in Chicago, where city officials are actively seeking a potential replacement.
