Lawmakers Introduce Measure Outlawing Federal Gun Registry

Sat, 01/18/2025 - 12:18

The threat of gun registration has long been a concern for U.S. gun owners, and for a very good reason: registration always leads to confiscation. Now, two U.S. lawmakers have introduced legislation to prevent any potential gun registration schemes in the future.

On January 16, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, and Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, introduced the “No Retaining Every Gun In a System that Restricts Your (REGISTRY) Rights Act.” Although its name is somewhat awkward, this legislation is commendable as it would prevent the U.S.

Trump Owes It to Gun Owners to Eliminate the ATF

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 11:30

President Donald Trump’s election victory was made possible by millions of gun owners who are still angry about the treatment they received from Joe Biden and his antigun ilk.

Biden and whoever was actually calling the shots targeted legitimate gun owners and gun dealers like it was cool – like it was a game. Biden even allowed these illegitimate forces to establish an antigun office right inside his White House.

The United States Supreme Court, Does It Matter?

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 09:30

On January 13, the United States Supreme Court declined to hear two Second Amendment-related cases, the first being a challenge to Delaware’s “assault weapons” and standard-capacity magazine ban and the second covering Maryland handgun licensing requirements. As I intend to be critical of the High Court, I offer in fairness to concede that its previously issued rulings that should have been considered by state legislation, especially in the case of Delaware, but were not. I understand the monotony of redundant legal challenges the justices have already ruled upon.

PA Gun Show Bill Requires IDs, Which Must Be Given To State On Request

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 08:30

An anti-gun measure introduced in the Pennsylvania legislature by a Democrat lawmaker from Philadelphia is—like most anti-gun legislation—simply a solution in search of a problem.

Pennsylvania Rep. Amen Brown introduced former HB 1563 in the state House of Representatives on January 9. This measure requires anyone attending a gun show in the state to present identification. The gun show owner must keep a copy of the ID for five years and provide it to the state attorney general, any county prosecutor or any municipal police department upon request, with no limitations on the reason.

Senators Introduce Bill to Stop ATF Overreach on Firearm Imports

Fri, 01/17/2025 - 06:30

U.S. Senators Roger Marshall (R-KS) and Jim Risch (R-ID), along with a coalition of pro-Second Amendment lawmakers, have introduced the Sporting Firearms Access Act, a bill designed to prevent the ATF from arbitrarily blocking the import of firearms and ammunition into the United States. The legislation seeks to provide clarity to the “sporting purposes” test used by the ATF to regulate imports under the Gun Control Act of 1968.

The current ambiguity in the law allows the ATF to subjectively determine whether a firearm or ammunition qualifies for importation.

Thu, 01/16/2025 - 13:30

A half-score of years ago, Illinois’ most aggressive gun rights group Guns Save Life a lawsuit challenging Cook County’s (then) new gun and ammunition tax. Following those 10 years in the courts, we have two orders from Illinois Courts— including the Illinois Supreme Court—saying the ordinance establishing the tax was and remains unconstitutional. Yet, Cook County officials have told us in recent days they have no intention of ceasing collection of these (unconstitutional) taxes. Welcome to the lawless Windy City.

Texas Judge Rules Pot User Still Has 2A Rights

Sun, 01/05/2025 - 06:30

In the ongoing battle over cannabis use and gun ownership, a Texas district judge recently ruled that smoking marijuana does not automatically negate a person’s Second Amendment-protected right to keep and bear arms.

One portion of the Gun Control Act of 1968 makes it illegal for anyone using marijuana or other banned narcotics to purchase or own a firearm. In fact, the form used by the National Instant Background Check (NICS) system specifically asks purchasers if they use marijuana or other illegal controlled substances.

Florida and Pennsylvania Democrats Continue to Legislate in Contempt

Sat, 01/04/2025 - 22:35

Until they face legal consequences, the contemptuous left has made it clear that they will continue to spend tax dollars legislating in defiance of the judiciary, particularly the United States Supreme Court. While “contemptuous” could be aptly described here as full of scorn or disdain, I am referring to contempt of court, legal terminology that describes the act of disobedience or disrespect towards the judicial branch in opposition or defiance of its authority.

You might be asking, can a lawmaker be held in contempt?

5th Circuit: No Gun Rights For Accused Abusers

Fri, 01/03/2025 - 15:00

In a ruling handed down on the last day of 2024, a federal appeals court ruled that the statute banning gun ownership by accused domestic abusers is not unconstitutional under the Second Amendment and can be enforced.

The decision by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans was a reversal of its earlier decision, and judges took into account the 2024 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Rahimi in reaching their latest conclusion.

Savage AccuCan A22 Suppressor Review

Fri, 01/03/2025 - 12:30

When I got my first rimfire suppressor, I wanted one that was rated for .22 Magnum. I’m a fan of the round, and knew I’d want to use the suppressor on one eventually. Well, due to some lack of research on my part and some sketchy info from a local SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer or basically, FFL who can legally sell NFA items) who’s no longer in business, I ended up with a .22 LR-only can.

Time to Put Constitutional Rights Taxes to the Test

Fri, 01/03/2025 - 10:30

Colorado has joined California in taxing Americans’ Second Amendment rights with its new voter-approved gun initiative. While proposals for similar taxes have ignorantly claimed they mean to reduce gun violence, this new Centennial State measure is unique in that it confesses upfront to being a revenue-generating scheme, using victim services as an “ends justify the means” argument.

A 6.5% tax on guns, gun parts and ammunition will apply to dealers and manufacturers that make at least $20,000 annually, excluding sales to law enforcement and active-duty military.

Some Churches Still Don’t Have Safety & Security Teams

Fri, 01/03/2025 - 08:30

Denial has no survival value. And pretending that the threats faced by Christian churches in today’s world only apply to “other” churches in “other towns” is both imprudent and foolish.

This year, I visited a local church with family for Christmas Eve services. We arrived early, and I had a chance to people watch. I saw one or two individuals who looked like they might be armed judging by their dress and the more serious folding knives clipped to their pants.

We have four sons, one of whom is an avid hunter who has wanted a .450 Bushmaster for a few years. So, it was with great delight that he heard I was to review the BCA .450 Bushmaster AR. After the review, I kept the rifle and loaned it to him. Subsequently, he killed two deer with it during Indiana’s recent firearms season. Those deer look like they’d been hit with an F150 Club Cab—truly hammered!

Woman Accidentally Discharges Unfamiliar Gun At Airport

Thu, 01/02/2025 - 08:30

A Florida woman accidentally discharged a firearm that police say she was “unfamiliar” with while at an airport, a most unfortunate venue for this brand of misadventure. While owning and carrying a firearm is a right that must be preserved and defended to remain a free and secure society, it is also a responsibility that Americans need to have a broader understanding of when choosing to exercise it.

The incident unfolded on Thursday morning, December 19, at a United Airlines ticket counter inside the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
