Gun Review: Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 Rifle

Sat, 04/22/2023 - 13:00

I remember the AR-7 of my youth as a finicky, fairly delicate, but super cool, fun little rifle. Today’s Henry US Survival AR-7 Rifle keeps all the cool of the old AR-7, but levels up the durability and perfects the reliability of a 70-year-old design, one of my childhood favorites.

The .22 LR AR-7 was probably the first semi automatic rifle I ever fired. I was introduced to this rifle when I was a boy.

Don’t Just Shoot, Train – 3 Great Shooting Drills for a Square Range

Fri, 04/21/2023 - 16:00

By DrewR

A large percentage of the People of the Gun are relegated to shooting in a “static” or restrictive range, often indoors and sometimes lorded over by a range master calling when to fire and when to stop. I’ve been there and I know how difficult it can be to meaningfully improve your practical shooting skills under those conditions.

Here are the three drills I’ve use when I was relegated to a static range that actually improve my shooting.

Bogus Data Is Regurgitated by the Media to Cheat Americans Out of Their Constitutional Rights

Fri, 04/21/2023 - 10:00

By Salam Fatohi

When it comes to guns, there is little to no hope for the average American to get a fair shot at accurate statistics.

Instead of the truth, the public receives the illusion of truth, repeated by media anchors, talking heads and spokespeople, government officials and gun control advocates. Much of what is passed off as fact these days about guns is propaganda: misinformation about Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), defensive use of firearms and the promised effectiveness of various firearm restrictions for law-abiding Americans, to name a few.

Gun Review: Blaser R8 Ultimate Carbon Hunting Rifle

Thu, 04/20/2023 - 17:00

“You’ll be the first American writing a review for this new R8.” I probably would have said “yes” to any opportunity to review another Blaser gun, but that added some extra spice to get the chance to be the first to review one here.

The “new” Blaser R8 Ultimate Carbon rifle first appeared in 2022 (it showed up first in the European market and is just starting to make here to the USA).

Things That Don’t Suck: The Highwild Bullet Trap

Thu, 04/20/2023 - 12:00

I’m moving, and I hate it. Moving truly sucks, and what sucks the most is moving away from the home range I’ve built.

I have plans for a new range, but that’s a little ways down the road as of now. To keep my trigger finger from itching too much, I bought a bullet trap. I actually had no idea these existed for actual firearms at an affordable price point. I only randomly stumbled across the Highwild Bullet Trap and for a little less than $50, I hit buy-it-now.

Thu, 04/20/2023 - 10:00

After fighting off a 14-hour filibuster by opponents, the Nebraska Senate voted yesterday to approve a permitless carry bill, LB 77, by a 33 to 14 vote. The Cornhusker State already has open carry on the books. Governor Jim Pillen is due to sign the bill into law next week making Nebraska the 27th state with constitutional carry on the books.

Gun rights opponents didn’t take the L well. From the AP .

Veep Thoughts on Gun Control and the Second Amendment

Thu, 04/20/2023 - 08:00

Gun violence is now the number one cause of death for children in our nation.

Leaders in state houses and the United States Congress must have the courage to step up and pass commonsense gun safety laws, which the majority of Americans support. pic.twitter.com/aef0iHNGia

— Vice President Kamala Harris (@VP) April 19, 2023

Let’s reject the false choice between the 2nd Amendment and reasonable gun safety laws.

Obscure Object of Desire: The Cobray DS410 Shotgun

Wed, 04/19/2023 - 16:00

Cobray was a really interesting company. Before the absolutist mentality regarding firearms was prevalent, and before black guns dominated the market, companies like Cobray led the way. Cobray was unafraid to be unconventional and even controversial.

They produced machine guns for civilians before 1986. They made open bolt pistols and produced .45 Colt/.410 handguns before the Judge was a glint in Taurus’s eye. Sadly Cobray’s quality wasn’t great, and they weren’t very well respected.

Things That Don’t Suck: Blackhawk Omnivore Multifit Holster

Wed, 04/19/2023 - 12:00

I’ve had a Blackhawk Omnivore holster ever since it premiered years ago. It’s likely the holster I’ve used more than any other, just due to the nature of reviewing firearms. The Blackhawk Omnivore is a quasi-universal holster design made from polymer and requires your pistol to have some form of rail. The Omnivore is an interesting design and one I’ve used extensively. This might be one of the more long-term reviews I’ve ever written.

The Omnivore comes in three variants, two light-bearing and one standard.

It Wasn’t a ‘Teen Takeover’ in Chicago Over the Weekend, It Was a Riot

Tue, 04/18/2023 - 17:00

Chicago law enforcement attempted to get people to safety during a “teen takeover” in Millennium Park over the weekend. I had just returned from the NRA show in Indianapolis late Saturday night when I got messages asking if I had seen what was happening downtown.

When police refused to let hundreds of teenagers into Millennium Park, violence broke out. The mob trashed property, attacked people, broke windows, and even started a car on fire.

Disarmament or Armed Self Defense…Americans Have Already Decided

Tue, 04/18/2023 - 16:00

By Rob Morse

Gun-control advocates will tell you that the 23,000 firearms regulations we have today aren’t nearly enough. Those laws are simply a good start. In contrast, advocates of armed self defense will tell you that the right to bear arms is horribly infringed. Both are telling the truth about what they want, but they can’t both be right. In fact the results are shockingly different. Imperfect gun control fails time after time while imperfect armed defense stops millions of violent crimes each year.
