The Truth About Guns

How to Get Started Hunting the Right Way
I used to shake a great deal when I saw deer wandering towards me across a vast fields of beans. Every inch they moved made my heart beat harder and it reminded me that I had to be patient.
Back in those days I hunted with a .45 bore Kentucky rifle my great uncle had found in an abandoned barn in rural Ohio. He gave the rifle to me to repair and it was my first true hunting gun.

Things That Don’t Suck: SOG SOG-TAC AU Compact Auto Knife
I’ve never been a fan of assisted or auto knives. I’ve just never seen the need. A good flipper or thumb stud has me covered in terms of deployment. I suppose I can see the usefulness of an auto knife a LEO backup weapon and the like, but for the average EDC-er it just seemed like a complication — both legal and mechanical — that I didn’t need.
I have to say, though, that after using the SOG-TAC AU Compact auto knife for almost a year, I’ve grown accustomed to it and it’s wormed its way into may EDC knife rotation.

Biden’s Enemies List Began With the Gun Industry, Now Includes Half of All Voters
President Joe Biden’s dark “Battle for the Soul of the Nation” speech might go down as the moment he joined Hillary Clinton in categorizing those who didn’t agree with her far-left policies as “a basket of deplorables.” The president has been roundly criticized for many of the aspects of the speech and some political insiders are marking it as the moment he labeled nearly half of American voters as “enemies.”
Well…welcome to the club.
Watson: Hochul’s Unconstitutional Concealed Carry Restrictions Put Lawful Gun Owners’ Lives at Risk
Essentially, the judge found all of the major elements of the new [New York Concealed Carry Improvement Act] violate the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners who have gone through the state’s extensive vetting process to be able to carry a concealed weapon to protect themselves and others.
Maybe that’s why, at a news conference with Hochul last week, New York City Mayor Eric Adams bragged about police recovering 4,700 illegal guns so far this year.

That Time PA Senate Candidate John Fetterman Grabbed a Gun and Chased Down an Unarmed Black Jogger
Most of us remember Ahmaud Arbery. He was a black jogger who was stopped by three men, then shot and killed. Two of the men who were convicted of murder got life sentences and a third got 35 years.
The Democrat candidate for US Senate in Pennsylvania, John Fetterman, had a similar incident in his not-so-distant past. Back in 2013, when he was the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, Fetterman thought he heard gunfire.

Gun Review: FN Five-seveN MRD Mk3 Pistol
When FN created the latest generation of Five-seveN pistol, they didn’t just add an optic cut to the slide and call it good. The FN Five-seveN MRD (Micro Red Dot) is an evolved update to a unique handgun that many love and others can’t seem to figure out. The new Mk3 (actually Mk3T for tactical) version, however, eliminates more (but not quite all) of the objections that some have had to what’s always been incredibly fun, accurate, light-shooting handgun.

Why Throwing Gun Rights Under the Bus to ‘Own’ the Other Side is a Very Bad Idea
It’s widely believed, on both the right and the left, that gun rights is a conservative issue. But as some recent events in Texas demonstrated, that isn’t always the case. There are situations that can get intellectually challenged deep red conservatives to embrace hysterical anti-gun talking points while spewing ignorance about firearms, just like their opponents on the other side of the political fence.
As a community of gun owners and supporters of the right to keep and bear arms, it’s not just our right, but our duty to call this out when we see it, and condemn it.
FN Announces the New FN 509 CC Edge Compact Compensated Pistol
In January of 2021, FN America launched its first pistol in their ultra premium FN Edge Series line of 9mm handguns. The FN 509 LS Edge took the competence, reliability, and overall quality of the 509 platform — which was an outgrowth of FN’s Modular Handgun System entry — and dialed it up to 11.
The 509 LS Edge has an upgraded finish, improved sights, MRD readiness, a flared aluminum magazine well, lightening cuts in the slide and an improved trigger.
It’s Time to Use Bruen to Make Feds Show Why Controlled Substances Void the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Gun-control isn’t just about concealed carry, modern sporting rifles nor NICS checks. The prohibited person laws are almost as important as the gun laws themselves.
Recall that the Veterans’ Administration feeding NICS the names of veterans who gave powers-of-attorney to handle their VA benefits. The VA asserted that since these vets declared themselves incompetent to administer their personal affairs they fell under the definition of a prohibited person.
There was nothing novel in this gun-control gambit.
Two Attackers Still at Large After Saskatchewan Mass Stabbing That Killed 10, Wounded 15
After a mass shooting in Nova Scotia in 2020 carried out by a man who impersonated a police officer, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin “Zoolander” Trudeau used the killings as a pretext to decree an end to the sale and use of “assault-style” firearms in the Great White North.
Yesterday, two men carried out what police believe was a drug-related mass stabbing attack in Regina, Saskatchewan that killed 10 and wounded 15 more. The weapons used to kill and wound a couple of dozen Canucks will surely be noted in Ottawa.
An Engineer Returns to Ukraine to Become a Sniper in the War Against Russian Invaders
By Derek Gatopoulos and Adam Pemble, AP
Before taking a shot, Ukrainian sniper Andriy buries his face in a foldout mat, breathing slowly and deliberately.
“I need to be completely relaxed, to find a place where I will not move the rifle when I pull the trigger,” he says. “I don’t think about anything. It’s a kind of vacuum.”
In a semicircle around his head are boxes of bullets, printouts of charts, a heavy-duty stapler and a roll of tape.
Argentinian Vice-President Kirchner Survives Assassination Attempt When A Cartridge Fails to Fire
Argentina’s Vice-President narrowly survived an assassination attempt at point-blank range thanks to an apparent cartridge misfire. The incident took place Thursday evening when Vice President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner emerged from her car at her residence. She began to shake hands with admirers and supporters.
Her security detail missed not only any pre-violence indicators by the assassin, but also the gun as he drew and pointed it. The would-be killer put it in her face and pulled the trigger…and nothing happened.
Trying to Protect African Wildlife With the Least Expensive Weapons Available
In addition to hunting, when TTAG writer Jon Wayne Taylor is in Africa, he trains the people who protect some of continent’s most endangered wildlife from poachers. This week he’s in South Africa working with men who protect black and white rhinos from two-legged predators. And as JWT texted, they’re seriously under-gunned.
They carry Maverick 88 Security models in various lengths. Some have been shortened significantly, some remain at 18.5. They were all originally green at some point, but the paint has long since worn off.
Crazy Train: Ozzy Osbourne to Abandon LA, Return to the UK Because of ‘Gun Violence’
Osbourne and his wife Sharon are returning to their Buckinghamshire residence after spending more than 20 years living in Los Angeles, the Black Sabbath singer told the Observer in a wide-ranging interview. Osbourne’s family life in California was famously documented on the MTV reality series “The Osbournes” in the early 2000s.
Gun violence in the US is part of what convinced him to return to the UK full-time, he told the Observer.
James Yeager, RIP
According to sources, James “MF” Yeager passed away this morning, September 2, 2022. He’d been fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) for some time and that is believed to be the cause of his death, although no official statement has been released.
James was perhaps best known in the gun industry for Tactical Response. However, he had quite a colorful background prior to his teaching years. In the early 1990s, Yeager worked in a range of drug task force units and undercover squads.
