The Truth About Guns

How One Twin Cities Company Fills the Void Created by Defunded Police in a High Crime Environment
By Waysun Johnny Tsai
Early this year I was introduced to a company that focuses on executive protection and guard services. The interesting part is that they are based in St. Paul, Minnesota and do a lot of work in and around the city of Minneapolis. We all know what the climate around there is and has been like.
I figured any company that would name itself after JomsVikings is probably worth a look.
The Media Only Tell Us Half the Story About Guns in America…Why Do You Suppose That Is?
By Rob Morse
It’s hard to fool an honest man or woman who wants to know the truth. Unfortunately, many of us depend on the media to bring us much of our news, and lying to us — or withholding key parts of the story — today makes it easier to fool us tomorrow.
Most of us feel horrible when we see news stories about violent crime. Beyond the emotional shock of the story, though, we are seldom told what the story means.
Gun Review: SIG P210 Carry
The SIG P210 Carry is an interesting gun. When SIG SAUER first announced it, I thought, why? The new SIG P210s were pretty sweet and are very well made, accurate, and oh so fun to shoot. What is the purpose of a carry model?
Especially when you looked at the size, the capacity, and the price of the P210 Carry (about $1400) versus SIG’s ultra-popular P365 carry gun. Even so, after firing one briefly at the PSA Gathering event earlier this year, I wanted to know more, so I reached out and SIG sent me a loaner to test drive.

St. Louis Police Fighting ‘Progressive’ Mayor’s New Civilian Oversight Board
By Jim Salter, AP
Eight years after Michael Brown’s death pushed the St. Louis region front and center into the national debate over police accountability, the city’s elected officials and its police associations are at odds over a new oversight plan.
St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, a progressive Democrat elected last year in part on her pledge to hold police more accountable, this month signed into law a bill creating a Division of Civilian Oversight, an independent agency to investigate allegations of police misconduct and use of force incidents.
Safety Tip: Never Try to Catch a Dropped Gun
We’ve said it before — a few times, actually — but it bears repeating, particularly after recent events…don’t try to catch a gun you’ve dropped. Period. It’s far more dangerous to try to grab it as it falls than it is to let it hit the ground.
Virtually all modern guns are reliably drop-safe. Even with a round in the chamber, letting them fall presents far less risk than catching it and possibly making contact with the trigger.

SIG SAUER Issues Product Warning and Recall Notice for 9MM 115gr Elite Ball FMJ Ammo
From SIG SAUER . . .
Sig Sauer has determined that portions of Lot No. JDAR0815 of SIG SAUER 9MM, 115gr, Elite Ball, FMJ (SKU E9MMB1-50), may have powder charge variations that could result in a bullet remaining in the barrel (i.e., a bullet-in-bore obstruction). Firing a subsequent bullet into a bore obstruction could cause firearm damage, rendering the firearm inoperable and subjecting the shooter and bystanders to a risk of serious personal injury.
Gear Review: Pnuma IconX Heated Core Vest and Pants
I’m a total sissy for the cold. According to all the genetic tests, I’m about 4,000% Scandinavian, but whatever noble traits my hearty ancestors developed to live in the cold skipped right over me.
Hating the cold as I do, I own a wide selection of cold weather undies. I’ve got wool and synthetics alike. I’ve got multiple weights of the same sets, and when I travel, I bring spares.
But I didn’t have anything quite like the Pnuma Outdoors IconX Heated Core vest and pants.

Trailing Nadler Badly in the Polls, Carolyn Maloney Tosses Up a Couple of Gun Control Hail Marys
U.S Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) is in the fight for her political life. She’s trying one last Hail Mary to win over gun control-minded primary voters in her bout against Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.).
Rep. Maloney has used the firearm industry as a political football in her primary campaign. Now, she’s introducing legislation to punish firearm manufacturers.
Favored Target
Rep. Maloney chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The A3: Armored Republic’s Newest Body Armor
No one wants to need body armor: Ideally, you avoid dangerous situations, or at the very least, you don’t get shot. But when the time comes where you’ll want body armor, whether it’s a home invasion or warding off a “mostly peaceful protest,” you’ll want the best armor on the market.
Over the years, different armor materials have shown themselves to be particularly powerful for certain uses. For instance: steel armor is amazing at stopping multiple bullets — better than any other material.

Gun Review: SIG P365 XMACRO 17+1 9mm Pistol
SIG SAUER continues to expand on its modular P365 platform, this time by increasing capacity to the full-size pistol range and creating an offering for those wanting to jump on the compensated carry gun trend.
A new grip module extends the grip length of the slim, modular P365 to accept a full 17 rounds of 9mm ammo. And by using the P365’s 3.1-inch barrel in the longer P365XL slide SIG has been able to use the extra room to integrate a compensator for reducing muzzle flip.

Beto Can’t Hide His Long Record of Advocating for Gun Confiscation From Texas Voters
From the NRA-ILA . . .
Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke’s position on guns is straightforward. The former New York manny wants to ban and confiscate America’s most popular firearms and further undermine Texans’ Second Amendment rights.
This radical position plays well with some Democratic presidential primary voters. It doesn’t with the Texas electorate. That’s why the perennial loser has been working to muddle his gun control position.
Things That Don’t Suck: SIG SAUER M17 X-Change Kit
With the modularity of the SIG P320 users can easily swap out just about everything on the gun and do it affordably. The most popular (and least expensive swap) is the grip module which can be found for as little as $9.99, but usually run around $40 for a polymer frame from SIG SAUER.
And, of course, kits exist that let you reconfigure your P320 from one model to another by providing everything but the fire control unit (FCU).

Downtown Austin Shooting Shows Exactly How Soft-On-Crime Policies Result in More Dead Bodies
[Nathan] Ramirez had been out of jail in Travis County since he was granted personal bond on May 27, 2022 for the June 2021 charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. Ramirez had been on the lam since the incident last year until he was arrested on May 26, 2022.
Austin Municipal Court Associate Judge Stephen Vigorito granted the bail on the condition that Ramirez not possess any firearms or engage in criminal activity.
5 Easy Steps to Cheating Your Way Into the One Mile Long-Range Shooting Club
By Paul Erhardt
I cheated. That’s right, I’m a cheater, and it’s about now that you’re expecting me say something like, ‘and I’m not proud of it.’
Well, too bad. I am proud of it, so learn to live with that bit of disappointment.
Why am I proud to be a cheater? Great question. But first, here’s what I accomplished, albeit with the help of cheating.
I shot some long range targets.
Gear Review: Gatorz Marauder Glasses
Gatorz’s newest frame style is called the Marauder, and they look a bit like a full coverage Wayfarer style. Combining my go-to look with a wrap style frame that offers extreme peripheral vision, I got my hands on a pair immediately and put ’em through their paces up in North Idaho.
[EDIT: Gatorz has offered TTAG readers a 15% discount with coupon code TTAG15]
Made in the US of A from CNC machined 7075 aluminum and ballistic rated to the highest standards, I always liked and appreciated Gatorz but wasn’t a big fan of their high-speed-low-drag “Operator” style frames.

Obscure Object of Desire: Stevens Model 235 Side-By-Side Shotgun
My small town has had gun shows twice this year, and boy, oh boy, am I a fan. Most of the bigger city gun shows only attract gun stores who add on the gun show “special” price of 20% more and call it a day.
I go to gun shows to find and purchase (or just ogle) old guns. I don’t care about a table full of GLOCKs, but I love a table full of milsurp guns or antiques and my local gun show is all about that.
