Bloomberg-Paid Writer Horrified That NRA-Supported Groups Can Write Supreme Court Amicus Briefs in Support of Gun Rights

Sun, 08/07/2022 - 08:00

An examination of the 49 pro-NRA amicus briefs filed in Bruen, along with court and IRS filings, shows that over the last two decades, the NRA has given financial support to at least 12 of the groups and individuals who lobbied the court on its behalf. That’s nearly a quarter. Though a full accounting is impossible, some recipients collected several million dollars from the NRA during that period and before filing briefs in Bruen.

It’s Time to Regulate the Real Culprit That Kills Hundreds of Thousands of Americans Annually

Sat, 08/06/2022 - 16:00

Spoons kill more than six times as many Americans every year than firearms. It’s time for some common sense silverware control in this country. For the children. If it saves just one life . . . .

Things That Don’t Suck: Blackhawk T-Series L2C Overt Holster Kit

Sat, 08/06/2022 - 13:00

As I mentioned in another article, I’ve been struggling a bit to find accessories for my M&P 10mm. It turns out that, at least for most things, the key is to buy things that work with the M&P in .45 ACP, which is another gun that’s harder to find accessories for (can you tell I’m an M&P junkie?). After upgrading the recoil spring, my next move was to find some holsters.

Next week, I’ll review some concealed carry holsters, but one of the first things I got for the M&P 10mm was something for carrying out in the desert or into the woods.

Winchester Data Shows Hunters and Target Shooters are Increasingly Shooting AR Pattern Rifles

Sat, 08/06/2022 - 10:00

The time has come for President Joe Biden and the rest of the gun control politicians to pack up the worn-out line that “no one needs an AR-15 to hunt deer.”

Turns out, recreational target shooters and hunters do want modern sporting rifles (MSRs). That’s the family of AR-platform [semiautomatic] rifles that come in many calibers. According to the 2022 Ammunition Consumption Study by Winchester Ammunition, more than half of recreational shooters firing a centerfire rifle used an MSR.

Schools Are Making Adjustments to Contingency Plans for the Painful Lessons Learned at Uvalde

Sat, 08/06/2022 - 08:00

[Madison County Sheriff Buddy] Harwood acknowledged that people might have concerns about AR-15s being located in school, but he argued that it would be safer on the whole.

“I hate that we’ve come to a place in our nation where I’ve got to put a safe in our schools, and lock that safe up for my deputies to be able to acquire an AR-15. But, we can shut it off and say it won’t happen in Madison County, but we never know,” he said.

Things That Don’t Suck: Wolff Gunsprings 22 lb. M&P 10mm Recoil Spring

Fri, 08/05/2022 - 16:00

Before I ordered my Smith & Wesson M&P in 10mm (TTAG review HERE), I did a lot of reading. I’ve had a number of guns over the years, but I’m not a collector and never have too many at any one time. I love guns, but to me, they’re mostly tools and not stamps or classic cars. One thing I’ve never messed with before was 10mm Auto, but after thinking about some of the recent mass shootings, I figured it was time to get some more power and a flatter trajectory at distance, as well as something that can take a red dot.

Florida Gov Suspended and Removed Strongly Anti-Gun Prosecutor

Fri, 08/05/2022 - 14:00

From The Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project:

Prosecutor suspended by DeSantis for incompetence also violently anti-gun

If you looked at State Attorney Andrew Warren’s social media, you might assume he worked for Giffords, Brady or Everytown, not the people of Hillsborough Country, Florida.

Warren is an anti-gun zealot.

In post after post on Twitter and Facebook, he railed against the Second Amendment, gun owners and Florida laws dedicated to keeping us safe.

Gun Review: New FN High Power FDE

Fri, 08/05/2022 - 12:00

For more than 80 years Fabrique Nationale Herstal made the Browning High Power, one of the world’s greatest modern sidearms. Then they stopped. It turns out the old warhorse just needed a breather, and maybe a minute to grow.

When the new FH High Power was reborn, it wasn’t the same beast at all.  The new FN High Power is bigger and better than ever.

Maybe. It depends.

The original Browning Hi Power was, and remains, in the words of the rebel traitor Ben Kenobi, “an elegant weapon, for a more civilized age.” Its sleek lines are a timeless design, immortalized through imitation on countless other firearms.

New From Primary Weapons Systems: BDE Line of Suppressors

Fri, 08/05/2022 - 10:00

I got a little behind-the-scenes peek at PWS‘ new BDE 762 a couple months ago at the NRA Annual Meetings, and was impressed by the obvious thought that went into its design as well as by the extremely precise machining. There’s a truly satisfying tactile feel to correctly-cut threads, and screwing together and removing the baffles on the BDE 762 has it nailed.

The BDE series — which Primary Weapons Systems claims is short for Bravo Delta Echo but Urban Dictionary and I have other theories — is DMLS (which legitimately stands for direct metal laser sintering) printed from titanium and is highly modular.

Poole: Thinking What We Are All Thinking About Gun Marketing

Fri, 08/05/2022 - 08:00

For many years, I did not have a gun. I did not hunt or target shoot. Where did all this manipulative marketing come from? I never saw it. I consider myself an average male who reads magazines and newspapers, yet I never once saw marketing material for me to go out and buy a gun. House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) indicated five companies made $1 billion over 10 years by selling civilians “military-style assault weapons.” What exactly is military-style?

Supreme Court Win For Second Amendment Opens Other Gun Control Laws to Scrutiny

Thu, 08/04/2022 - 16:00

In June, the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association prevailed in its lawsuit against Bruen (named defendant and the Superintendent of New York State Police). In winning this case in front of SCOTUS, “may issue” laws — laws under which states and municipalities have entirely subjective rules under which they may or may not issue concealed carry permits — have been deemed unconstitutional. This opens up the door for going after unfair, subjective, and otherwise not equally-applied gun control laws all across the country.

France Orders Laser Weapon Prototype for Paris Olympics

Thu, 08/04/2022 - 14:00

With a one-kilometer (whatever that is) range, the HELMA-P is a French-made laser weapon designed to knock drones out of the sky. According to CNN.com, the French .gov has ordered one prototype HELMA-P to patrol the skies during the 2024 Paris summer olympics:

“The HELMA-P system provides a calibrated response to the drone threat, from dazzling the drone’s observation instruments to the neutralization of a mini or micro drone (from 100g to 25kg) by altering its structure, causing it to fall in a few seconds,” the ministry said in a statement.

Store Owner ‘Blows Off’ Attempted Robber’s Arm

Thu, 08/04/2022 - 12:00

Situational awareness can save lives, and an 80-year-old store owner protected himself by being vigilant and seeing the attack coming on the store’s security cameras. “He shot my arm off!,” screamed one of the well-armed (I mean, he was well-armed until one was blown off), would-be robbers in the security camera video below:

Join the +ONE Movement by bringing somebody to the range this month and teaching them about the joys, security, and self-sufficiency of responsible and safe gun ownership. After all, it’s National Shooting Sports Month and the last couple years have clearly shown us that there are millions and millions of people interested in joining the ranks of firearm owners for the first time. Houston Catches Onto 3D Printed Junk Guns At “Buyback” Events

Wed, 08/03/2022 - 16:00

Media outlets in Houston are reporting that the most recent gun “buyback” event was a success, but a good chunk of the $100,000 the city spent went to people who showed up with cheap 3D printed guns people made to turn a profit at the event. TTAG had a laugh at the taxpayer’s expense HERE. So, the city is changing their policy for the next event.

“We did get some ghost guns where people may have 3D printed or made these guns specifically for the gun buyback program,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told the local ABC13 station.

July 2022 NICS Data Is In, And . . . We’re Still Buying Lots of Guns

Wed, 08/03/2022 - 14:00

Unrest and riots in 2020 led to an unprecedented spike in firearm sales, in particular to first-time as well as women and minority gun owners, and I think we’re all surprised and heartened to see historically strong sales continuing (three Julys in a row of well over 1 million checks each). Recession or not, inflation or not, gun sales continue at an impressive clip (or is it magazine?).

The NSSF adjusts the gross NICS numbers by removing NICS background checks done for the purposes of concealed carry permit applications and renewals and other things unrelated to the purchasing of a firearm.

Leaked Docs Show FBI Equating Second Amendment Beliefs With “Violent Extremism”

Under the “Symbols” category of the document, “2A” is listed with the following explanation: “MVEs [militia violent extremists] justify their existence with the Second Amendment, due to the mention of a ‘well regulated Militia,’ as well as the right to bear arms.”

An FBI whistleblower has leaked an internal-only “Domestic Terrorism Symbols Guide” document, among others, to Project Veritas.
