The Truth About Guns

The Cornyn-Murphy Senate Gun Control Bill – Half a Victory Lap Along With a Countervailing Setback
Dr. Jeffrey W.Swanson is part of a small community of American academics — about two dozen in all — focused exclusively on studying gun violence and how to prevent it. Washington has often stood in their way; for 24 years, Congress effectively barred the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from funding their work. Federal law still prevents the government from giving them access to gun-tracing records that would be extremely helpful to their research.

Gun Review: Bergara BMR Carbon Rimfire Rifle
The break of a trigger. The fall of the rifle’s striker. Wait a bit…a puff of dust. A scurrying prairie dog. A miss. But not by much, and the next .22LR round from the Bergara BMR Carbon rifle would be already on its way.
I’ve found prairie dog “hunting” with a .22LR to be one of the best overall marksmanship challenges available, and certainly one of the most fun. They’re small, moving targets of varying size at a range of distances.

The Effects of the Bruen Decision Don’t Stop at Shall-Issue Carry Permits…Not Even Close
By Rob Morse
Laws can be interpreted many ways. We seek guidance from the courts to know what is legal and what is not. The US Supreme Court has largely ignored the right to bear arms compared to the number of decisions the court has rendered in other areas. As a result, we don’t have enough decisions to draw a clear map of where our rights begin and end.
Now, however the court has issued an opinion on the right to bear arms in public.
Things That Don’t Suck: Tyrant Designs Two-Piece Iron Sights for GLOCK Pistols
You won’t find a lot of fans of the standard iron sights on GLOCK pistols. There’s nothing wrong with the…they’re perfectly functional. But they also seem to be one of the first things that are swapped out by those who own GLOCKS.
Tyrant Designs makes a series of nicely machined 7075 aluminum iron sight options for GLOCK pistols and I chose their gold two-piece version for my G19 Gen5 MOS.
On the left above is the stock sight GLOCK puts on their pistols.
Police Say Two Intruders Were Shot and Killed by a Phoenix Home Owner
Sometimes there are clear cut cases of the defensive use of firearms and then there are others that can fall more under the “justified, but not ideal” classification. Take, for example, this developing story from Phoenix, Arizona.
According to the fox10phoenix.com . . .
Officers responded to 911 calls coming from the area of 27th Street and McDowell Road around 7:45 a.m. Sgt. Philip Krynsky says when they arrived, they found 2 men who had been shot on the ground in front of the home.
Cohen: It’s Not the Culture, Stupid, It’s the Guns
Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) gave us a hint when he said, “We had a public school in my district that was forced by the left and the courts to take down ‘thou shalt not kill’ from in front of the schools.”
By his implication, without explicit reminders of Judeo-Christian rules of moral conduct, children fail to learn that things like murder, stealing and lying are wrong. But it’s not a question of knowing the rules.

Things That Don’t Suck: Raven Concealment Systems ModuLoader Shotgun Shell Carrier
Have you ever had an idea you thought was utter genius, something no one has come up with before…only to find out later that, yes, it’s already been done? That’s how I feel about Raven Concealment Systems and the ModuLoader. Years ago, a friend of mine was messing around making Kydex holsters and mag pouches, and we talked about building a simple Kydex platform to which we could mount velcro shotgun cards.
It turns out Raven Concealment Systems had this idea long before we did in the form of the ModuLoader.
How the Cornyn-Murphy Gun Control Law Will Harm Mental Health in America
By Hannah Cox
Last week, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law a bipartisan gun control package supporters have labeled a “compromise” bill.
The gun control package includes several items: Incentives for states to pass red flag laws, a crackdown on “straw purchases,” an end to the “boyfriend loophole,” investments in mental health and suicide prevention as well as crisis and trauma intervention and recovery, an expanded requirement for who must register as a licensed federal firearms dealers, and enhanced background checks for 18-21 year olds looking to buy a gun.
Clearwater, Florida Woman Shoots and Kills a Neighbor Who Attacked Her in Her Own Bedroom
You’re allegedly more likely to be shot by someone you know. One good way to reduce that risk, of course, is to avoid breaking into an acquaintance’s home in the middle of the night. That’s a lesson a Clearwater, Florida man failed to learn.
A woman who lived next door to 26-year-old Justin William Wright woke up to find him standing in her bedroom after he broke in through a window.
The Anti-Gun Left Can’t Seem to Understand That Popularity Isn’t the Same as Constitutionality
Do not call this band of reckless revisionists on the court conservatives, by the way. Nothing about what they are doing is “conservative,” nor should you call them “strict constructionalists” or “originalists,” as their decisions disregard legal precedent, the spirit of the Constitution, and often craft citations for their decisions from whole cloth.
One recent example, last week’s decision ending New York’s restrictions on carrying a concealed handgun, offers a prime example of this.
Public Defenders Back Bruen Decision’s Elimination of a Racist Gun Control Law
By Jennifer Peltz, AP
When the U.S. Supreme Court struck down New York’s tight restrictions on who can carry a handgun, condemnation erupted from liberal leaders and activists.
But some public defenders, often allies of progressive activists, praised the court’s ruling, saying gun-permitting rules like New York’s have long been a license for racial discrimination.
By making it a crime for most people to carry a handgun, New York and a few other states have ended up putting people — overwhelmingly people of color — behind bars for conduct that would be legal elsewhere, the defense lawyers complain.
Biden Signs Cornyn-Murphy Gun Control Bill Into Law – ‘Lives Will Be Saved’
From the AP . . .
President Joe Biden on Saturday signed the most sweeping gun control bill in decades, a bipartisan compromise that seemed unimaginable until a recent series of mass shootings, including the massacre of 19 students and two teachers at a Texas elementary school.
“Lives will be saved,” he said at the White House. Citing the families of shooting victims, the president said, “Their message to us was to do something.
Cooper: A ‘Conservative Gun Utopia’ With An Armed Populace is No Way to Live
In Philadelphia today, most people can get a legal handgun and a legal permit to carry it concealed everywhere they go in a matter of minutes. The few who are legally ineligible can buy a gun illegally, or steal one, mainly thanks to diversions from the gigantic legal supply. As a result, thousands and thousands of people out on the streets every night are packing heat, and as we see, some of them are either spoiling for a fight, or jumpy teenagers with poor impulse control.
Shooter In Custody After Suspected Terrorist Attack in Oslo, Norway Kills Two, Wounds 10 More
From the AP . . .
A gunman opened fire in Oslo’s night-life district early Saturday, killing two people and leaving 10 seriously wounded in what police are investigating as a possible terrorist attack during the Norwegian capital’s annual Pride festival.
Investigators said the suspect, identified as a 42-year-old Norwegian citizen originally from Iran, was arrested after opening fire at three locations in downtown Oslo.
While the motive was unclear, organizers of Oslo Pride canceled a parade that was set for Saturday as the highlight of a weeklong festival.

Holosun Introduces the New Solar-Only SCS-MOS Red Dot Sight
From Holosun
Holosun has listened to consumers and delivered once again. The SCS-MOS (Solar Charging Sight) is a pistol-mounted reflex sight that features an internal solar rechargeable battery. Not only does the optic self-regulate intensity to ambient light like all other Solar-Safe Holosun optics, but the solar panel also recharges the internal battery.
The SCS-MOS was designed from the ground up to match the form and style of the Glock MOS platform with serrations on the optic body that fit flush with the factory Glock slide serrations.
Bump Stock Bans May Be the First to Fall After Bruen
The earthquake that rumbled across the legal landscape yesterday as a result of the Supreme Court’s New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen ruling is only just beginning to be really felt. Yes, the Court nuked “may issue” licensing schemes in New York (and the eight other states with similar laws). But as the almost panicked reactions of those in the gun control industry made abundantly clear, that’s only the start of what the ruling will mean for other laws currently on the books.

Does ‘Hardening’ Schools Make Them Safer?
By Elizabeth K. Anthony, Arizona State University
The first real possibility for federal firearms legislation in decades has been sketched out by a bipartisan group of senators.
It comes in the wake of the May 23, 2022, school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in which an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers before himself being killed in a gunfire exchange with police.
Perhaps inspired by concerns that the shooter entered the school through a door whose lock malfunctioned, and faced few other barriers or restrictions during his attack, the bipartisan proposal would boost both physical security measures and the number of mental health workers in schools.
