Ohio Democrats Push 10-Day Waiting Period for Gun Purchases

Fri, 11/22/2024 - 11:00

There are gun purchase waiting periods and then there are “holy crap” long gun purchase waiting periods. And that’s just what two Democratic lawmakers in Ohio want to make happen, the Ohio Capital Journal is reporting. The two have introduced a proposal for a 10-day waiting period for gun purchases, claiming it would reduce violence by giving buyers time to “cool off.” However, the bill’s sponsors, state Reps. Cecil Thomas and Rachel Baker, are relying on questionable studies that have been widely criticized by experts for their methodological flaws and inconsistent results.

Fri, 11/22/2024 - 09:00

A Leamington, Ontario, woman faces multiple charges after Texas deputies in Angelina County found stolen firearms, including a short-barreled rifle, and ammunition in her possession during a traffic stop.

According to the police, Jahtaya O’Day Jah-Kiara Hamilton’s Lyft ride from Houston, Texas, on Nov. 6 was stopped for speeding when, during the traffic stop, the sheriff’s deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana. After instructing Hamilton and the driver to exit the vehicle, deputies found both marijuana and two large bags in the trunk of the car which contained 20 semi-automatic pistols, a short-barreled rifle, magazines and ammunition.

3D Printer Software Can’t Stop Gun Making

Thu, 11/21/2024 - 13:00

A recent article at VoxelMatters, a 3D-printing publication, tells us about an effort to stop the 3D printing of firearms and firearms parts. 3DPrinterOS, a company that develops software to manage printers, worked with a university to develop algorithms that should identify gun parts. These could be used to make 3D printers than will stop print jobs if it appears that a weapon is being constructed.

“We believe that this collaboration will pave the way for safer 3D printing practices,” said Rene-Oscar Ariko, VP of Global Sales at 3DPrinterOS.

Mother Confronts Man Texting Her Daughter Before He Is Shot By Police

Thu, 11/21/2024 - 11:00

A woman confronted an 18-year-old man at a restaurant after finding that he had been exchanging text messages with her 13-year-old daughter, which led to a police confrontation and the suspect being shot multiple times.

The Florida mother, upon learning the night before about the “inappropriate text relationship” with her child, used her daughter’s phone to set up a rendezvous, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The mother, pretending to be her daughter, continued the text conversation with the 18-year-old who was later revealed to be Cerry Banks, arranging a meeting with him the following morning at a local Popeyes restaurant.

Dem Governors Seek to Hamper Trump; Ignore the Will of the People

Thu, 11/21/2024 - 08:30

Voters sent an overwhelming message on Nov. 5: they want the country to move in a new direction. The biggest change came at the top of the ticket with President-elect Donald Trump defeating sitting Vice President Kamala Harris by taking the popular vote and a wide Electoral College margin of 312-226. The U.S. House of Representatives remains in Republican control, but the U.S. Senate flipped from Democratic control to a larger Republican majority.

As President-elect Trump won approval across historically broad voting demographics, clear majorities of voters said crime and gun policies were important.

While the most popular rideshare applications like Uber and Lyft have transcended their status as nouns, having become verbs in our daily vernacular, lesser-known options are available.

New York Judge Allows Lawsuit Against Body Armor Ban To Go To Trial

Wed, 11/20/2024 - 13:00

A federal judge has ruled against Attorney General Letitia James and other New York officials, rejecting their motion to dismiss a constitutional challenge to the state’s ban on bulletproof vests and protective body armor.

U.S. District Court Judge John Sinatra Jr. affirmed plaintiffs standing to sue the state over the restrictions.

“Here, plaintiffs have demonstrated an injury in fact…They allege an intention to engage in a course of conduct arguably protected by the Second Amendment but proscribed by New York law,” Sinatra wrote in a 19-page ruling.

Public Support For An Assault Weapons Ban Continues To Tumble

Wed, 11/20/2024 - 11:00

If you have been monitoring so-called “mainstream” media sources or seen Gallup’s recent headline announcing their latest poll findings on firearms, you would be led to believe that an overwhelming majority of Americans want to ban semi-automatic modern sporting rifles, also known as assault weapons.

Gallup’s report on the poll carried the headline, “Majorities Still Back Stricter Gun Laws, Assault Weapons Ban.” And technically, that’s true. However, channeling our inner Paul Harvey, now you’re going to hear the rest of the story.

With Republican Sweep, Anti-Gun Dem Senator Now Wants to be Bipartisan

Wed, 11/20/2024 - 09:00

The implications from last week’s election results are reverberating through the halls of Congress quickly. The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled How Bump Stocks and Other Conversion Devices are Amplifying the Gun Violence Epidemic, and Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) struck a noticeably different tone than his usual combative anti-Second Amendment style, seeking instead to offer to work together with Republicans in the new Congress when majority control flips sides.

“I hope to be able to work with the new incoming chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Chuck Grassley,” said Chairman Durbin.

Best Self-Defense Tools? Um…I Don’t Know…How ‘Bout a Gun

Wed, 11/20/2024 - 07:00

Ok, so to start, I get that the article in question appeared in the New York Post, published in, of course New York City, where all things “guns” are strictly verboten, so a New Yorker is naturally going to get creative. But therein lies the problem: When trying to determine or write an article about the best self-defense tools available, there is clearly, one option that trumps all others. The others are nice, maybe even kinda cool.

Giving Guns as Gifts: Know the Law

Tue, 11/19/2024 - 13:00

With gift-buying season upon us, it’s natural for gun owners who enjoy target shooting, hunting, collecting or just plain plinking to want to share their enjoyment of firearms with others. What better way to do that than to gift a firearm to a family member, close friend or relative?

The first thing to remember if you’re thinking about giving someone a gun is that ownership of a firearm brings with it serious responsibilities and legal obligations that other consumer products don’t.

Ignorant Analysis Of Illinois AWB Ruling Proves Who The Real “Jackass” Is

Tue, 11/19/2024 - 07:00

Anytime a court rules in favor of Second Amendment rights, you can be sure there will be a naysayer out there somewhere convinced the judges were wrong, and the guns in question should, indeed, be banned.

Such was the case last week in Barnett v. Raoul, in which the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois found that two provisions of the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), which ban many semi-automatic firearms and so-called “high-capacity” magazines, are unconstitutional under both the Second and Fourteenth Amendments.

Michigan Using Gun-Free Zones To Subvert The Right To Carry

Mon, 11/18/2024 - 11:00

On November 14th, the Michigan Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety passed SB 857 and SB 858 making the bills eligible for votes on the Senate floor. The pair of measures would expand “gun-free zones” in Michigan, prohibiting gun owners from carrying firearms in the State Capitol Building, the Binsfeld Senate Office Building and the Anderson House Office Building, with an exception, of course, for legislators, because “rules for thee, not for me,” and all that second-class citizen stuff.

Memphis City Leaders Just Keep Pushing Their Anti-Gun Schemes

Mon, 11/18/2024 - 09:00

Anti-gun city councilors in Memphis, Tennessee, just won’t let up in their continuing quest to squelch local citizens’ right to bear arms.

Back in July, the city council made an end-run around Tennessee’s firearms preemption law by trying to put a three-part gun control question on the November ballot. Despite the secretary of state’s warning that the questions violated state law, a judge ruled in September that the questions could appear on the ballot.

Why Matt Gaetz Scares Democrats More Than Trump

Sun, 11/17/2024 - 07:00

Last January, former U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz [R-FL-1] introduced H.R. 374. It was a short bill that became known as the “Abolish the ATF Act.”

“The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is hereby abolished,” Gaetz’s bill said.

It was simple, really.

Unfortunately, it received the same response as other bills Gaetz had submitted, such as H.R. 9534, the National Constitutional Carry Act, or H.R.3142, the Stand Your Ground Act of 2023.

If you’re a gun guy and a Star Wars buff, then it’s just about impossible that you haven’t wanted Han Solo’s DL-44 blaster at some point or another. Since most of us don’t want to chop up an original C-96 Mauser to build one the prop gun was based on, like Jerry Miculek did, it’s good to have other options. Luckily, Canto Arms has a better solution with their new BlasTech Industries DL-44 Hero.
