Tell the Moms Demand Action Harpies at Your Thanksgiving Table to Shut Up and Eat Their Tofurky

Wed, 11/22/2023 - 15:00

We’re firmly of the opinion that tweets like the one above and articles like this one that invariably pop up every year in the run-up to red-blooded Americans’ favorite holiday are nothing but clickbait meant to provoke the normies, generate outraged social media posts, and get tongues a-wagging.

We doubt that either your spinster Aunt Karen from Portland or your pajama-boy cousin who’s home on break from Oberlin (where’s he’s still working on his masters in Grievance Studies) will actually bring up gun control at the Thanksgiving dinner table tomorrow.

The Biden Administration is Now Applying its Failed Thinking on Gun Control To Cars

Wed, 11/22/2023 - 14:00

We don’t write about cars much here, but there are some striking parallels to gun control in some recent moves by the Biden administration. Tell me if this rings any bells. Rather than punishing people who do idiotic things with their cars that endanger the public, the National Transportation Safety Board instead wants to punish all drivers with speed-limiting devices.

When we take a closer look at a particular tragedy they’re using to justify the move, we can see that the regulatory authoritarians in the administration apply the same flawed collectivist thinking to virtually every aspect of modern life.

Federal Judge: There’s No Constitutional Right to Buy a Gun

Wed, 11/22/2023 - 10:00

From the NRA-ILA

Honest people can disagree with the Founders’ decision to enshrine the Second Amendment within the Bill of Rights. They cannot, however, pretend that decision never happened. For much of the 20th Century, however, gun control activists tried to convince the public that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms” had nothing to do with the right of individuals to keep and carry guns for their own self-protection.

Dead Last: Cato Ranks New York the Least Free State in America for the 23rd Straight Year

Tue, 11/21/2023 - 14:00

By Joe Bartozzi

New York has gone and done it again. The Empire State is considered the “least free” state in the Union. That’s not much of a surprise to those in the firearm industry or gun owners who call New York home.

Cato Institute released “An Index of Personal and Economic Freedom” ranking all 50 states on 14 categories of freedom, from economic freedoms (relating to tax policies) to personal freedoms, which included gun rights.

EDC Report: Carrying the Canik METE MC9 Subcompact Pistol

Tue, 11/21/2023 - 12:00

When it comes to concealed carry, the key to success is consistency. We consistently carry, day in and day out, even if we don’t perceive a threat. We consistently carry our firearms in the same place, in the same manner, so we don’t have to play the “Where is my gun?” game during an emergency.

Also, we shouldn’t change EDC guns like we change underwear. We need to decide on a gun that works for us and then rely on our faith and confidence in that gun to be our lifesaving tool in crisis.

Murder Rate Fell 6.1% After Supreme Court’s Bruen Decision, Gun Control Industry Silent

Tue, 11/21/2023 - 10:00

The mid to late 20th century was the peak era of gun control in America. The violence and unrest of the 1960s kicked it all off with the the Gun Control Cct of 1968, the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986, the Brady Law of 1993 and finally the Clinton “assault weapons” ban of 1994.

Few states allowed concealed carry in any form, while a number of western states only allowed open carry.

The Basics: 7 Things Every AR-15 Owner Needs to Know How to Do

Mon, 11/20/2023 - 16:00

While driving to an open shooting position on a recent range trip, I saw AR-15 type firearms in every bay as I looked around. Some bays had as many as 10 different varieties of the AR-15 platform rifle. I saw another local gunsmith test firing the fruits of his labors.

I watched a group of 20-somethings challenge each other on a timed course of fire. I observed a dad helping his daughter to hold the gun up while she shot ground-mounted clay pigeons.

Gun Review: Smith & Wesson M&P FPC Folding Pistol Carbine

Mon, 11/20/2023 - 12:00

Smith and Wesson has been leaning into their more creative side in the last few years. The bullpup M&P 12, the M&P 5.7, and of course now the M&P FPC. Some, including KelTec, have pointed out that their interesting new weapons have more than a little in common with some of KelTec’s designs. The FPC, which isn’t just the acronym for an effective gun rights org, is a Folding Pistol Carbine. The FPC has seen plenty of comparisons to the SUB 2000 for obvious reasons.

3 Questions You Need to Ask Yourself When Deciding to Carry a Gun

Mon, 11/20/2023 - 10:00

By Ryan Bridges

With great power comes great responsibility. I think I heard that in a movie once. Guns can be powerful tools for self-defense and provide unparalleled peace of mind, but they can also be dangerous to their owners and others when people fail to use them properly.

Even a moment of carelessness can lead to a fatal accident, which is why we have to expect more from people who choose to carry.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey: There’s No Reason Florida Shouldn’t Be an Open Carry State

Mon, 11/20/2023 - 08:00

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said he would “love to see” Florida be an open carry state. …

[Brevard County Sheriff Wayne] Ivey said the U.S. Constitution is “the foundation and the fabric of our great nation.”

“It says you have the right to bear arms. It doesn’t say you have to conceal it. It doesn’t say you have to have a permit, anything of that nature,” Ivey said.

The Story of Uziel Gal, Inventor of the Uzi Submachinegun

Sun, 11/19/2023 - 16:00

By Tyler Hilliker

You have probably heard of the world famous Uzi and its variants, even if you aren’t really a “gun person.” The infamous little 9mm is just one of those guns that’s almost universally recognizable by almost anyone, much like the Tommy gun, M16, AK47 and GLOCK.

The Uzi was first introduced in Israel in the early 1950s, seeing use through the present day with several militaries, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Question of the Day: What Does SHTF Mean to You?

Sun, 11/19/2023 - 13:00

A reader on the left coast writes . . .

Many people here and elsewhere invest a lot of time, money, and training in the pursuit of home defense in case the manure lagoon hits the 1 MW wind turbine. But what does this really mean?

One needs to prepare for situations based on expected probability and the negative consequences. What situations do you expect to encounter, how could they be, and what are their odds?

Thinking the Un-Thinkable: Keeping a Medical Office SHTF Gun

Sun, 11/19/2023 - 10:00

By Dr. Latebloomer

Some gun colleagues and I were having a conversation recently and someone mentioned a “SHTF Office Gun.”  I remember laughing to myself, saying something like, ‘Sheesh, can you imagine having a pediatric office SHTF gun?’ That would go over like a lead balloon (no pun intended).

But when you really think about it, we are a soft target, located close to a school. This startling reality was pointed out to me by a different friend when we were talking about Stop the Bleed recently.

The Guardian Discovers Weakening the NRA Wasn’t the Anti-Gun Victory They’d Hoped it Would Be

Sun, 11/19/2023 - 08:00

As it has ramped up its influence activity in Washington, the GOA also touts its member chapters and allies including the California Gun Rights Foundation and other ones in Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Nationally the GOA and its chapters have flexed their lobbying and legal muscles in some significant fights in several states. For instance, in New Mexico the GOA has claimed success in obtaining a temporary restraining order against new gun curbs in Albuquerque.

The Biden DOJ Makes the ‘Dude, Where’s My Gun?’ Argument For Gun Control

Sat, 11/18/2023 - 13:00

Gun control advocates are having a tough time of it these days. After NYSRPA v Bruen, they’re actually having to prove their gun control laws are constitutional when they’re challenged, and to do so, they have to prove that similar restrictions were common practice when the constitution was ratified. Add the 14th Amendment (equal protection) into the mix and there are very few gun control laws that we should expect to survive legal scrutiny.
