The Simple Truth About Guns, the Second Amendment and the Nature of Our Rights

Tue, 11/14/2023 - 10:00

By Richard L. Guion

The US Constitution is not and can never be used as a limit upon the people. All too often people regard the introductory statement of the Second Amendment, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state…” as a clause upon which the right of the people depends. Nothing could be further from the truth.

As opined in US v. Miller back in 1939, the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that the introductory statement of the Second Amendment specifically protects arms of efficacy to the military for the militia…which is comprised of the people.

Jernalizm: The NY Times’ Bumbling Attempt to Blame an Ammo Maker for Mass Shootings

Mon, 11/13/2023 - 14:00

By Lee Williams

The actual shot-callers behind the Biden-Harris administration’s war on guns and the Second Amendment have certainly been creative in the steps they’ve taken toward achieving their goal of total civilian disarmament.

These unelected bureaucrats have targeted “weapons of war” as they like to call them, which prompted several weak-kneed retailers to strip the country’s most popular rifles from their shelves. Through their toadies at ATF, Team Biden has targeted homemade firearm kits, after-market triggers, pistol braces and more.

Gun Review: Aero Precision SOLUS Hunter Bolt Action Rifle

Mon, 11/13/2023 - 12:00

Aero Precision, the Washington-based company best-known for their AR rifles and parts, got into the bolt business a couple of years ago with their SOLUS short action. It has a Remington 700 footprint, integral 20 MOA rail, removable bolt face, nice machining and a nitrided finish.

No one really expected Aero to stop with just the action and last year, they unveiled two rifles built around the SOLUS short action. The SOLUS Competition rifle is a PRS-type competition chassis gun (review from Jeremy in process).

Practical Lessons From Videos of the Hamas Attacks on Israel

Mon, 11/13/2023 - 10:00

Having taken graduate-level courses in emergency management and homeland security, watching people argue online about the Hamas attack on Israel and the Israeli response can be maddening.

Instead of embracing the complexity and trying to pick out what useful lessons they can, the talking heads and their flying monkeys seem to be looking for ways to use the conflict to grind one ideological axe or another. As usual, the largest competing narratives get a lot of people in an emotionally compromised state, and they tend to suck most of the oxygen out of the room.

How to Clean a Suppressor

Sun, 11/12/2023 - 13:00

Do you want — or need — to clean your suppressor? It’s not always necessary depending on your particular can and the caliber you’re shooting.

But let’s talk about if and when you should clean your suppressors (AKA silencers) plus some common methods of doing so. Because there’s such a wide variety of suppressors on the market, I’ll talk mostly in generalities here. As always, consult your suppressor’s manual or contact the manufacturer directly for the specifics of your model.

Mystal: The Republic Can’t Survive the Invalidation of Trump’s Bump Stock Ban

Sun, 11/12/2023 - 08:00

…Ian Millhiser brought up a terrible potential effect of this case that somehow makes everything worse: If the court strikes down the bump stock ban now, based on the legal ambiguity of the machine gun ban, it’s likely that Congress will never be allowed to go back and make it clear that bump stocks are, in fact, banned. That’s because of the court’s disastrous ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v.

Honor a Veteran With a Life-Saving Buddy Check

Sat, 11/11/2023 - 10:00

By Mark Oliva

Veterans Day is a solemn occasion for many. It’s a time when we, as a nation, honor those who wore the uniform and stood in defense of all we hold dear. It is a reminder of those who served during war and peace, that those select few swore an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. These are the men and women who picked up a rifle to stand between that which we treasure and those that threaten our way of life.

Fifth Circuit Panel Unanimously Strikes Down ATF’s ‘Frame and Receiver’ Rule Redefining What

Fri, 11/10/2023 - 16:00

Is anyone tired of winning in the courts yet? No, of course not. That’s why yesterday’s news of yet another Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals victory was just as sweet as the others. The latest judicial win was a ruling in VanDerStok v. Garland, the case challenging the Biden ATF’s frame or receiver rule that is a non-legislative re-definition of what constitutes a firearm.

The ruling by a three-judge panel was unanimous (and glorious).

Gear Review: Zeta6 K-Clip Speedloader

Fri, 11/10/2023 - 12:00

Speed loaders are the superior revolver reloading device. They’re faster and easier to use. No they aren’t…speed strips are. They’re easier to carry and allow you to top off your wheel gun.

That’s what I imagine the comments section of articles on revolvers would look like any time between the 1970s and 1992 (if there were comment sections back then), from the advent of the Speed Strip by Bianchi to the takeover by Wonder Nines.

ATF Lets Chicago’s Machine-Gun Toting Thugs Slide, Concentrates Instead on Banning Legal AR-15 Rifles

Fri, 11/10/2023 - 10:00

By Lee Williams

More than 500 people have been shot and killed in Chicago this year. More than 2,220 have been shot and wounded. On any weekend, Chicago streets reverberate with the sound of fully automatic fire. It remains America’s deadliest domestic war zone.

According to one violence tracker, a Chicagoan is shot every 2 hours and 45 minutes. Someone in the city is murdered every 13 hours, and it is no secret who’s doing the killing.

Question of the Day: When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Carry Gun?

Thu, 11/09/2023 - 15:00

(ED: I first ran this years ago and stumbled across it over the weekend and shook my head at that photo. These days my carry gun is a Springfield Hellcat. I still have that trusty G43 and it’s still a great gun. I’ve been meaning to pick up a couple of Shield magazines for it to up the on board round count, but haven’t gotten around to it. As for the Hellcat, I’ve foolishly let it go as long as six months between cleanings without it ever accumulating anything approaching what you see in the photo above.

Concealed is Concealed: How to Dress For Everyday Carry Success

Thu, 11/09/2023 - 11:00

There is more to carrying a concealed handgun than simply throwing a t-shirt over your rig. You have to change your style of dress and, to a lesser extent, your lifestyle to accommodate your everyday carry gun…and the rest of your load-out. Or do you?

Clothing challenges

Concealed means concealed. But does concealed mean donating your entire wardrobe to Goodwill and wearing only multi-pocket “tactical” cargo pants and loose-fitting untucked shirts?

US District Court Judge Issues Nationwide Injunction Blocking Pistol Brace Ban Enforcement

Thu, 11/09/2023 - 07:08

In the wake of a 2021 shooting in Boulder, Colorado, BATFE decided that it was time to reassess their view of gun regulation. Instead of further investigating what motivated Ahmad Al Aliwi Al-Issa (whom the FBI already knew of due to links to another investigation) to shoot up a grocery store, Biden decided that the agency should prioritize further regulation of the firearm that was used in the crime.

Since that time, Al-Issa has been found incompetent to stand trial, and the story has found its way into the memory hole.
