Guns Save Life

Bob Owens at Bearing Arms has a good piece on New Jersey’s Democrats striking a deal amongst themselves on gun control.  Barack Hussein Obama would call it a fair and reasonable deal.

They have agreed to lower the state’s magazine capacity limit from fifteen rounds to ten.  In “exchange”, in their divine benevolence they are going to allow “reasonable deviations” in the routes of law-abiding shooters transporting firearms to hunt or to a shooting range.

With this generous proposal, gun owners will be able to stop for gas or to take a leak, or perhaps pick up a friend en route to use their guns.

The gun control movement and their gun-grabbing pals in the Illinois General Assembly are preparing a major legislative attack on your right to keep and bear arms.  We have already seen a number of anti-gun bills introduced into the legislature.  Among them is a very bad bill that would require you to register all of your firearms annually and pay a hefty registration fee for each firearm – a fee to be paid every year.  That bill also requires you to register your ammunition purchases so that the State Police will be able to monitor how often you go shooting and how much ammo you expend.  Another, absolutely stupid bill would prohibit members of the VFW from maintaining firearms in their own VFW halls.  Not only do the antigunners hate our Constitution, they disrespect the brave veterans who fought to defend it as well.

On Saturday, a Florida jury failed to convict Michael Dunn for the callous murder of Jordan Davis. Though he was convicted of three counts of attempted murder and also on a gun charge, a mistrial was declared for the first-degree murder charge. He will face substantial jail time – perhaps up to 75 years on the four charges for which he was found guilty.

Prosecutor Angela Corey has also publicly declared her intent to seek retrial on the murder conviction. However, she is the same prosecutor who oversaw the Zimmerman murder trial and failed to get a conviction. She is the same prosecutor who has overzealously prosecuted Marissa Alexander, for firing a warning shot into the wall to scare off her violent ex-husband. The Alexander case is the only case of the three for which she has gotten a conviction, and though Alexander has been granted a new trial, Corey intends yet again to send her to prison for 20 years for a crime that harmed no one…

Sadly, that leaves plenty more who want to move out of one of the most violent counties in the nation.

(Crains) As the Great Recession churned job prospects for many, Cook County lost about 13,000 residents with six-figure household incomes to other places, despite the widely hyped revival of downtown housing and jobs.

Between 2007 and 2011, Chicago and its immediate suburbs also ended up with about 10,000 fewer residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher, even after accounting for new arrivals, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s first attempt to track population shifts by income and education at the county level.

Why should we all strive to achieve a greater level of personal preparedness in our lives and that of our friends and local communities?  Let me share this with you.

On February 11, 2014 James Clapper presented a Worldwide Threat Assessment report to Congress. The 32 page report discusses the level of threats which are currently aimed at the United States. Hopefully even a quick reading of this document will reinforce the desire you undoubtedly already have to prepare for the worst. Several days prior to the report he testified before Congress. Here is a very brief summation of those remarks:

Like petulant children, they offer up a screed lamenting the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals recognizing an individual right to bear arms outside of the four corners of one’s home.

The first line is all you need to read.

The rest is superfluous gas, much like impolite flatulence.  Not that flatulence is ever polite, unless you’re a college frat boy in a drunken party.

Here it is.  Read it and wince.

Even if you accept the notion that the 2nd Amendment confers an individual right to bear arms — a proposition we wish the Supreme Court had rejected — states should be able to place reasonable restrictions on that right in the interests of public safety.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s spokesman tried to put some water on the news that 2,000 jobs will be leaving New York State soon as Remington moves it’s Illion, NY facility for Alabama.

He posted a comment on Twitter trying to spin the news as untrue.

Yeah, Rich.  You just keep telling yourself that, much like a toddler proclaiming something over and over in an effort to make it be true.

From time to time here in Illinois, the NRA, the Illinois State Rifle Association and Guns Save Life urge our members, friends and fellow gun owners to call certain politicians to urge them to take a specific action on one or more bills.

We all try to be selective on which ones we ask you to call for as we don’t want to be the little boy that cried “wolf” too often.

Why?

We’ll tell you why:  Those calls work.

They have worked here in Illinois, and in recent days, Missouri’s gun owners have given us a shining example of how they worked in the Missouri legislature as well.

See, Missouri was on the cusp of passing a nullification bill when a certain low-information, anti-gun legislator added a poison pill:  a “lost or stolen” amendment that would penalize gun owners for failing to report a gun lost or stolen within an arbitrary period of time.  (Sounds good, but what if the gun is stolen and you don’t know it?)

Chicken Little types claim the sky is falling (or soon going to fall) when we allow card-carrying good guys to carry their guns.

They’ve said it about Florida when debating allowing concealed carry back in the 1980s.  They said Florida would become the “Gunshine” state.  Well, today, with over one million active permits, Florida has the lowest ever rate of firearm-related violent crime.

Oklahoma House approves guns in capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma House committee on Tuesday approved measures designed to expand gun rights, including legislation that would allow residents with concealed weapons permits to bring their firearms into the State Capitol.

The NFL (sometimes referred to as the National Felon League) has received harsh condemnation from police officers everywhere for their arbitrary policy prohibiting guns at football stadiums – even for off-duty cops.

We as everyday card-carrying good guys aren’t too pleased either.

It seems Minnesota cops are taking formal action.  Good for them.

More locally, over at the Indianapolis Colts stadium, we know that guns aren’t prohibited in that facility by state law with a CCW permit.  We also know that well-concealed guns make it in there on a regular basis – the worst they can do is ask you to leave.  And frankly, after dark, bad guys are known to prowl that part of town, especially for those who don’t park nearby.  There are plenty of not-so-well lit areas too.
