SHOT Show news: Ruger to abandon California market for semi-autos

Wed, 01/15/2014 - 13:20

CalGuns is reporting that Ruger is about to abandon the California market for semi-autos thanks to that state’s insane gun control laws.  (Gun laws that people like Dick Metcalf would screech as “reasonable”).

(CalGuns) – Ruger is going to stop selling semiautomatic pistols in California:

In perhaps one of the more shocking discoveries at the 2014 SHOT Show, Ruger spokesperson Kevin Reid revealed that Ruger was going to let it’s entire California Semiautomatic pistol roster “…drop off…” the CA Department of Justice Approved Handgun List.

It seems that in Ruger’s slavish dedication to the concept of “continuous improvement”, and that California is milking some $ 500 per pistol per year to stay on the list AND that microstamping is now the rule, Ruger has alread

Dick Metcalf: Unemployed. Until his next formal job offer comes from an anti-gun group.

“The hijacking of our movement by these radical extremists causes me to fear for the future of the right I have spent my adult life fighting to defend . . . When we engage in noisy, extremist rhetoric rejecting all firearms regulation whatsoever, or refuse to acknowledge the plain fact that constitutionally validated regulations and statutes already exist, we risk alienating the American mainstream. And if we lose that mainstream, we will lose this war.” Dick Metcalf, Target: Me [via politico.com]

We’re growing…

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 15:52

by John Boch

Guns Save Life has been online in our current blog form for about fifteen months now and we continue to grow.

Personally, I’ve always worked hard to grow and improve.

One of my favorite strategies is to identify someone doing things well and then work to do better than that.

In this case, my role model was our sister gun rights group, the internet-based IllinoisCarry.com.

IllinoisCarry.com has been around for about eight or nine years now.  They’ve got themselves an Illinois-centric forum along with a blog and other aspects of their website.

All in all, they run a pretty good operation over there and have had steady growth in both traffic and number of registered “members”.   In the past five years, their members (who are also often overlapping members of more traditional gun rights groups like the NRA, ISRA, GSL, SCRA, and others) have done quite a bit of grunt work with the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day.

To their credit, many of these same people have also organized a series of community meetings promoting right-to-carry throughout the state, including in the heart of gun haters, Chicagoland.

Illinois Carry’s spokesman Valinda Rowe is a charismatic speaker and has won awards with her tire

Low-information legislators plumbing the depths foolishness

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 08:00

Honest Abe Lincoln once was famously quoted as saying, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

in the past couple of days, we’ve seen a pair of stories about low-information legislators that boggle the mind.

Let’s start with our neighbors in Missouri.

Low-information legislator of the year candidate from Missouri, Democrat State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal with her bedtime reading material.

Democrat State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal from Jefferson City, Missouri introduced a new bill, Senate Bill 549, that would require parents to register their guns with their schools when they enroll their children.  Parents would face a $100 fine for failing to register each gun and would be required to notify the school of additional gun purchases.  The bill would also require these same families to lock up their safety, charging parents

Wal-Mart’s “NO GUNS” Signage: Ask them to remove those signs

Mon, 01/13/2014 - 16:43

Walmart prohibits on-duty employees and vendors in their stores from carrying weapons as a matter of corporate policy in all fifty states.

With Illinois poised to join 49 other states with law-abiding, licensed good guys carrying firearms on their person, Wal-Mart’s corporate people have caused all sorts of consternation among gun owners in Illinois with the posting of new signs in all Illinois stores, reiterating this corporate policy.

The sign looks similar to the official sign that the Illinois State Police has directed to be posted for businesses wishing to ban carry in their buildings:

This similarity has quite a few people crying “foul!&#8221

Problems applying for an IL CCW license? No internet access? Visit your local library!

Fri, 01/10/2014 - 14:03

Public library computer work stations can be used to apply for a CCW license in Illinois.

We here at Guns Save Life have been trying to figure out how to organize a network of volunteers to assist those without internet access or those not technologically savvy in applying for the new Illinois CCW license.

It can be frustrating, to say the least, even for those know are on computers regularly.

We’ve hit upon a solution that’s readily available to most folks:  their local library.

Almost all libraries today have public computer workstations where you can fill out the required online application for an Illinois Digital ID and the Illinois Concealed Carry License.   These libraries also have document scanners to scan in your training certificates as well as a photo of yourself.  If you have difficulties using the c

Graphic video. Don’t watch if you get squeamish about blood.

The first rule of using and storing a projectile weapon:  Know your target and what’s beyond it.

This rule applies to staple guns…  and slingshots as well.

Know that projectiles may bounce back, as this German gentleman discovered the hard way.  He’s fortunate in many ways.

He could have put his eye out, but he’s gonna need stitches.  Lots of stitches.

Greedy thug comes back for seconds, gets fatally perforated by great-grandmother.

Wed, 01/08/2014 - 12:49

A great-grandmother in Shreveport, LA had her .38 pistol stolen in a burglary in December went to a local pawn shop and bought herself a new pistol for home defense.

Little did she know that less than a month later, the same burglar – a 16-year-old thug – would be back in a home invasion.

Devon Antonio Young thought he was going to score big bucks in the grandmother’s safe that he couldn’t break open during his first “visit”.

Instead, she handed him a bag with $55 in coins and two rounds of hot lead.

Dead right there.

Three years since the Father of IGOLD Gene Martin passed away

Wed, 01/08/2014 - 10:24

This Friday marks the third anniversary of the passing of Emery Gene Martin.

Most of us who knew him personally knew him as Gene.  Most who knew him on the Internet knew him as “Ol Coach”.

His passing was especially sad as we all knew it was coming.  As I understood it, Gene suffered some sort of lung disorder that required greater and greater concentrations of oxygen to allow him to live.  However, greater oxygen concentrations over long periods increases the risk of heart attack.

Gene opted to forgo the extra oxygen and prospects of a painful death from a heart attack.  Literally one day he was perfectly cognizant and upbeat, discussing ways to gain a right-to-carry in Illinois, albeit sitting in a hospital bed, and the next day he quietly slipped away.

Gene was a great man.  He was an inspiring coach of young people for many years, hence his Internet nickname “Ol Coach”.

He also was inspiring in his passion for the Second Amendment.

He brought together every Illinois gun rights group and got them all working as a team.

His work led to creation of the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day and with it, greatly increased co

BREAKING: Chicago’s gun sales ban struck down!

Mon, 01/06/2014 - 17:47

More bad news for gun grabbers!

A federal court judge earlier today ruled Chicago’s ban on gun sales in that city is unconstitutional.

Oh, darn.

That means another six-figure check from the City of Chicago to another law firm!

Oh, double darn!

(Buzzfeed) – Chicago’s strictest-in-the-nation law banning gun sales within the city is unconstitutional, a federal judge ruled Monday, saying the ban went “too far.”

The judge delayed the effect of the ruling to give the city time to file a response to the decision, Bloomberg reported.

“Chicago’s ordinance goes too far in outright banning legal buyers and legal dealers from engaging in lawful acquisitions and lawful sales of firearms,” U.S. District Court Judge Edmond E. Chang wrote in a 35-page opinion.
