Adams Fights Parade Gun Ban

Tue, 03/25/2014 - 12:08

COEUR d’ALENE - Playing off the momentum of the Idaho State Legislature, Coeur d’Alene City Councilman Steve Adams wants to eliminate a local weapons ordinance.

The ordinance he wants to eliminate bans weapons at parades and festivals within the city limits of Coeur d’Alene.

“It was brought to my attention a while back,” Adams said Monday. “I thought ‘why not continue this momentum to bolster the Second Amendment and eliminate this ordinance?’”

Adams was referring to the Legislature’s recent passage of a law that would allow citizens with enhanced concealed weapons permits to carry guns on Idaho’s college campuses.

On Monday, Adams took the issue to the city’s General Services Committee. That committee is a subset of the city council and screens most issues before they come to the city council for consideration.

Adams, who sits on the committee with council members Amy Evans and Ron Edinger, said he thinks the law is unconstitutional and unnecessary.

“I don’t want some poor guy with a concealed weapon attending a parade to be subject to a misdemeanor,” he said, adding the law has really never been enforced.

Willie Robertson wavers on Gun Rights

Tue, 03/25/2014 - 11:58

I hate background checks, but Willie Robertson disagrees:

Willie Robertson wants to get President Obama on his turf for a duck hunt.

“I’d like to get him out there with some camouflage and a gun and we could sit out there and talk,” the “Duck Dynasty” star told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham.

“I’d like to talk and debate and find out what’s going on in his brain a little more … I don’t shy away from people I disagree with.”

Obama previously said the clan of Republican Christian pro-gun advocates “seem like a pretty fun bunch.”

The Louisiana native actually ran into Obama in January at the State of the Union address and Robertson, 41, said he has met Obama “a couple of times.”

Though a staunch conservative and proud NRA spokesman, Robertson actually does agree with Obama’s push for background checks on gun purchases.

“I’m okay with a background check. I have a lot of weapons and every time I have to go fill out the paperwork to get the weapon,” he told FOX News in August.

Business is Booming thanks to Concealed Carry in Illinois

Mon, 03/24/2014 - 22:48

It pays to support the 2nd Amendment…

Nearly four months after Illinois residents started applying online for concealed carry licenses, businesses like gun ranges and training classes are feeling a positive impact.

“It’s concealed carry. It’s a whole different ball game,” said Tim Barton, owner of Citizens Tactical Unit Firearms Training Academy in Geneseo, Illinois.

“All the rules are different, the laws are different, the behavior is different,” he said.
It is loud in Barton’s gun range. There are distractions, including flashing red lights and screaming when people shoot their guns.

“If you’re just going through the motions, so you can get a certificate and your concealed carry, you’ll gave to go somewhere else, because you are required to perform here,” he said.

Barton says 100% of his business is from the concealed carry law.
“Right after you called and just before you called, I had two gentleman call and ask ya know, what’s your range class like?” he said.

His concealed carry classes are small, no more than six people. Half the required 16 hours of training are spent in the classroom, the other half is in his training range.

“I do have just range time coming in, but those are guys that have been through the c

Bashing victim’s dad wants expanded one-punch laws By Russell Varley

The father of a man who suffered severe brain damage after he was punched and fell to the ground on the Gold Coast almost five years ago says one-punch laws should be expanded.Sam Ford suffered the injury after the incident at Coolangatta in 2009.

The Queensland Government is considering a maximum penalty of life in prison for unlawful striking causing death under its new Safe Night Out Strategy.

Mike Ford says attempted murder charges should also be considered in cases where the victim survives.

“I still don’t understand why it’s if you can use a knife or a gun it’s murder or attempted murder but if you use your fists it’s a fight,” he said.

Mr Ford says his son requires intensive care.

“Sam’s been working for nearly five years now on a long road to recovery,” he said.

“He’s got severe brain damage, cannot walk, cannot talk, the punishment for that crime was two years’ jail.

“Does someone have to die to get life and why isn’t it attempted murder?”

Mr Ford says he will consider making a submission to the Government.

Response to Pro-Vivek Editorial

Mon, 03/24/2014 - 16:36

The Washington Post published an anti-gun editorial praising Vivek and attacking the NRA. I know, I’m shocked. Here’s my repose:

They say: “Every year guns are used to kill thousands of people, and not always the bad guys. For decades, doctors and other public health experts have argued that preventing gun deaths, particularly from accidents and suicides, should be a priority — like curtailing car fatalities or tobacco use.”

Fact: “You are 64 times more likely to be killed by your doctor than by someone else wielding a gun. That’s because 19,766 of the total 31,940 gun deaths in the USA (in the year 2011) were suicides. So the actual number of deaths from other people shooting you is only 12,174.

Interview with Pro-Gun Jesse Ventura

Mon, 03/24/2014 - 15:33

The interview was longer than this excerpt, but this is what’s relevant to us:

Melissa Parker (Smashing Interviews Magazine): Ted [Nugent] called President Obama a “subhuman mongrel,” and I believe he has apologized for the comment.

Jesse Ventura: Yeah. If Ted thinks he’s a patriot by making a statement like that, he’s the farthest thing from being a patriot. Our president is our president regardless of whether you agree with him politically. He is still the President of the United States, so if people like Ted claim to be a red, white and blue citizen and patriot, back your president regardless of whether you disagree with him. You don’t call him names. Show some dignity to the office he holds. See the difference between Jesse Ventura and Ted Nugent?

New Yorkers Support SAFE Act, Poll Claims

Mon, 03/24/2014 - 11:05

Disturbing news:

ALBANY (AP) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s rating among New York voters has slipped a bit in the latest Siena Poll, but he still leads Rob Astorino, the only declared Republican candidate for governor, by 35 points.

The survey released today by Siena College shows Cuomo leading the Westchester County executive 61-26 percent, down from 64-22 percent last month.

Voters say Cuomo has been an effective governor by a 64-28 percent margin. A year after the SAFE Act gun-control law was enacted, voters support it by a 2-to-1 margin. Voters support Cuomo’s proposal for state-funded college for prison inmates by a 53-43 percent margin.

A plurality of voters, 47-43 percent, said a Republican can beat Cuomo in this election.

The telephone poll of 813 registered voters conducted March 16-20 has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

I wonder how many people in upstate New York shares those views? I wonder how many of the 813 were registered Democrats?  But then again, this is the place where Bloomberg got elected thrice, and then DeBlasio, and now Cuomo, so perhaps my beef shouldn’t be with th

Newshounds accuses gun owners of using props

Sun, 03/23/2014 - 18:14

Newshounds states they “watch Fox so you don’t have to,” here’s what they saw:

Back in 2011, when children accompanied those who were protesting GOP changes to laws governing public employee unions, Fox’s Peter Johnson Jr. said that this was like “something out of Red China” and that he had “never before seen kids used in that fashion.” Later that year, Johnson and his fellow Fox fiends friends were appalled by a MoveOn ad which featured children expressing progressive talking points. Yet, the same folks who were just so concerned about kids being “used” by liberals, have never shown the same concern when it comes to kids promoting right wing memes. Just last week, Fox & Friends presented a segment featuring a 9 year old gun lover who is opposed to New Jersey legislation that wo

Maher wants Democrats to come out against the 2nd Amendment

Sun, 03/23/2014 - 17:21

Bill Maher said he quit smoking pot years ago, but somehow I don’t believe him:

Bill Maher is really no fan of the Second Amendment, and has frequently called out Democrats for not being stronger on guns. Tonight he confronted Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison on this very issue, asking, “Why doesn’t your party come out against the Second Amendment?”
Source: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/maher-grills-dem-rep-why-doesnt-your-party-come-out-against-the-2nd-amendment/

You’re kidding, right? This is the party where “pro-gun” Democrats regret the pro-gun votes they’re “forced” to take before elections, and those are the “good” Democrats, the rest of them are openly hostile against the 2nd Amendment.

Maher argued that it’s not good enough for Democrats to be “Republican-lite,” they have to be different, especially on guns. Ellison talked about pushing for common-sense reform, but Maher interjected, “Common-sense gun safety is bullshit.” Ellison insisted

Giffords and Clintons Strengten Ties

Sun, 03/23/2014 - 12:02

The event wasn’t gun-rights related, but keep in mind that Hillary wants to be president, so judge her by the company she keeps.

PHOENIX — A community service project that aims to convert vacant lots in Phoenix into urban gardens and community space for public use is drawing some high-profile volunteers — Bill and Chelsea Clinton and former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

The midday Sunday event at a community garden was coming at the end of a weekend conference attended by more than 1,000 students who listened to speeches from Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.S. Sen. John McCain, and heard TV host Jimmy Kimmel interview both Clintons.

Hillary Clinton, who’s considering running for president in 2016, told Kimmel on Saturday night that she was “very much concerned” about the direction of the country. The former secretary of state and first lady said she was “obviously thinking about all kinds of decisions” regarding her future.

The service project in downtown Phoenix was wrapping up this year’s Clinton Global Initiative University conference. Vacant lots account for 43 percent of the total land in the city, according to the project’s website.

Armed Guard Shoots Robber

Sun, 03/23/2014 - 05:05

The difference between armed security and unarmed security is the difference between life and death, here’s the proof:

Passers-by helped subdue a man Saturday afternoon after he allegedly tried to rob an armored truck and was shot multiple times by one of the truck’s guards in front of the Albertsons supermarket at 55 Division Ave. in Eugene’s Santa Clara Square.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was transported to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. His condition was not known.

The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m.

Some witnesses said they heard five shots fired. Others reported three.

Brian Crapser, who works as a security guard, said he had walked past the suspect in front of the Albertsons store a few minutes before the incident while on his way to Oak Grove Guns, around the corner in the same shopping center.

“I walked right by him on the way to the gun store, and he was standing by one of the pillars, and when anyone walked by he would turn and sort of hide his face,” Crapser said. “Being in the security business myself, that’s something I would notice.”

Crapser had been in the gun store only minutes when people came running in and said, &

Homer Landreth Wants Less Guns

Sat, 03/22/2014 - 01:03

Here’s a silly letter to the editor…

I could not be more disgusted than I am right now with the Arizona Legislature.

We just buried a police officer. Every day, there is a police-involved shooting. Teenagers are shooting each other. A person outside a mall just blasts away with a gun because he thought someone else had a gun.

But what does the Legislature do for us?

They pass more gun laws that make it easier for anyone to get a gun, that give everyone the ability to carry a gun inside a public place, and that penalize municipalities that have the sense to restrict gun access and use.

I am sick and tired of our Legislature concentrating on making access to guns easy and the senseless use of guns acceptable.

The public doesn’t want them.

To legislators: Quit making gun laws just because you are bought and paid for by the gun lobby in Arizona.

University of Arkansas Remains Anti-Gun

Fri, 03/21/2014 - 16:37

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees decided to continue a ban on faculty and staff carrying concealed handguns on campuses.

KFSM reports (http://bit.ly/1laO1vW ) the board on Friday decided to continue the existing ban. A UA system spokesman said the president of the board heard from officials from across the system and they all recommended that that policy stay in place.

In 2013, Arkansas passed a law allowing secondary educational institutions to opt out of the new law allowing employees with concealed carry permits to carry guns onto campus. Current UA policy allows only police officers to carry guns on campus.

University boards are required to opt out of the law annually, otherwise faculty and staff with permits are allowed to carry concealed handguns on school property.

Concealed Carry Expanded in Georgia

Fri, 03/21/2014 - 16:28

Victory!

ATLANTA (AP) – People with a license to carry a weapon could bring their guns into some houses of worship under legislation adopted by Georgia lawmakers.

The state House gave final passage Thursday to legislation that would eliminate a blanket restriction on carrying guns in church. It would allow congregations to decide whether they want to allow weapons into their sanctuaries.

State lawmakers backed away from a plan that would have removed a blanket restriction on carrying guns in bars. That will remain illegal.

The votes came during frantic voting on the final day of the General Assembly’s legislative session. By law, any bill that does not pass by midnight automatically fails for the year.

Unarmed WW2 Vet Victimized by Armed Teen

Thu, 03/20/2014 - 21:26

Unarmed equals unsafe, here’s the proof:

A 17-year-old Fresno boy accused of putting a gun in the mouth of a 92-year-old World War II veteran during a home invasion robbery last October made his first court appearance Thursday.

For months, Dezman Shang Kenner evaded arrest because sheriff’s detectives didn’t have enough evidence to charge him.

It took some old-fashioned police work by Jimmy Olson, a senior investigator with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, to break the case. He tracked down witnesses that led to the arrest of Kenner earlier this week, court records show.

Kenner has been confined at the county’s Juvenile Justice Center for a violation of probation since his arrest in November, authorities said. Now he faces charges that, if upheld, could land him in prison for up to 25 years.

Because of the violence used against the veteran, Josef Martin, Kenner is being charged as an adult in Fresno County Superior Court.

Wearing leg irons and handcuffs, the tall and slender Kenner was supposed to be charged Thursday. But his arraignment was rescheduled for April 1 to give the Public Defender’s Office time to determine whether it has a conflict in representing him.

Until he is a
