Video: No Females are Safe from this Bird-Dogging Buck

Mon, 11/21/2016 - 15:05

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. We’ve been saying the rut is on for weeks now, but if you need more convincing, we found proof. As this video hilariously demonstrates, this is the time of year that even young bucks are in hot pursuit for a mate. Here, a young buck is seen bird-dogging a teenage girl, who apparently was giving off all the right vibes for this buck. It makes us wonder: Maybe there’s another approach to this whole hunting thing that we overlooked? Next time your heading out to the woods, bring one of your female friends along with you. When she starts asking why...

And if it does end up being a world record, you can expect that number to grow even bigger.

The verdict is still out on whether or not the buck is a world record or not....

78-Year-Old Takes Down Big Minnesota Buck

Fri, 11/18/2016 - 10:23

A hunter in Minnesota now has a buck story for the ages. Seventy-eight-year-old Jim Wackler took a huge deer last Friday and it could be a new state record.

Jim says he heard this deer coming from the corn field near his stand, "it sounded like a freight train." When the deer walked out of the corn, Jim says he yelled at the deer and shot him with a 20 gauge shotgun.

Once Jim walked up to the deer and began counting points, he knew he was going to need help. We all know how that goes, everyone has pulled the old "I shot a 30 pointer" trick. Wackler was not kidding

Runner Laid Out by Deer

Thu, 11/17/2016 - 15:34

If you thought running was a non-contact sport, we beg you to think again as you watch this video. While running a cross country meet, these racers got in the way of another race taking place in the same field, and one of the racers pays the price. Turn up the volume for this one, because you have to hear the “Oooof” sound the runner makes after getting leveled by the deer. Poor guy, he never even saw it coming. One minute he’s focusing on his pace and his breathing, the next he’s being trucked by a deer that absolutely levels him, all the while it hardly breaks its stride. It...

It was while they were traveling down Highway 526 that a fight broke out, and Jake was thrown from the speeding vehicle. He survived, but suffered a pretty serious head injury. After getting...

Two Bull Moose Locked Antlers, then Frozen in Pond

Tue, 11/15/2016 - 07:01

A couple of bull moose out in Unalakleet, Alaska, got into a tussle that lead them to lock antlers, and eventually be killed in a pond. When the breeding season comes around, things are tense in the moose world. It’s the time of year when bulls have to show off their strength in a show of dominance, or protect a cow-in-heat. Unfortunately, these two guys ended up as frozen as Mr. Freeze in Batman. Jeff Erickson was the lucky guy who stumbled upon this frozen “moose-icle,” and posted the following photos to his Facebook page:

Jeff plans to remove the moose

Monster 37-Point Buck Taken by Trump Voter

Tue, 11/15/2016 - 06:32

Regardless of who received your vote for President of the United States in the 2016 election, everyone can agree on one thing: We love giant whitetail bucks. Details of the buck shown here are sketchy at best. Apparently this monster whitetail was shot in Minnesota during the state’s firearms deer season on November 11, 2016, and the massive non-typical rack has 37 points. (Just try and count the points and see if you can come up with the same result twice; nearly impossible!)

No matter how many points the buck has, or its official Boone & Crockett Club score, the hunter is...

ARs for Deer Hunting: The Modern Answer to an Age Old Tradition

Mon, 11/14/2016 - 11:10

There’s no question – the AR-15 doesn’t look like your daddy’s deer rifle. Of course, the Winchester Model 94 lever-action rifle your granddad used doesn’t look anything like his father’s Hawken, either. However, we see progress all around us. The smartphone is nothing like the rotary phones I grew up with, and if my grandpa stepped in my pickup truck, he’d think it was a spaceship. The American hunter is experiencing this same thrust into the 21st century. While it might not have the lure, feel and warmth of walnut and blued steel, performance matters over nostalgia. I’m...

How about this for a close call? A bull elk comes crashing through the woods and runs right by this hunter. Watch as this guy, looks up and realizes there's a bull elk barreling through the woods directly at him. He has just enough time to step out of its way, or he might have been flattened. That will wake you up in the morning! This is another perfect example of why you should always have a camera with you in the outdoors. This guy just happened to be in the right place in the right time to get this footage. Watch the intense video below:

Video: This Chinese C96 Mauser Replica is Called the “Wauser”

Thu, 11/10/2016 - 15:51

Know how you get a replica copy of something and it's just not the same as the original? That's pretty much how this C96 Mauser earned its nickname the "Wauser." The C96 Mauser was a very popular handgun in China in the 1920’s and 30’s, and naturally, because of its popularity, it led to a lot of domestically-produced copies of it. These ran a full range of quality, from downright dangerous to excellent. The gun in this video falls somewhere in the middle, appearing to be a fairly well made copy of the C96 Mauser. However, the gun does exhibit classic Chinese errors,...

Potential World Record Buck Taken After 2 Failed Attempts

Wed, 11/09/2016 - 17:09

These deer just keep getting bigger and better! A possible world record whitetail deer was killed in Sumner County, Tennessee on Monday. A hunter may venture out to the woods his whole life, and never see a deer like this. But Stephen Tucker, 26, is much more fortunate than you and I. See, Tucker attempted to shoot this trophy Saturday, but his muzzleloader misfired. Can you you imagine the agony watching this deer get away? Well, Stephen had to watch it twice. He saw it later that day, but passed up the shot because it was too far. "I was just hoping I would see him again after I...

Taking My First Buck with a Bow and the Valuable Hunting Lesson Learned

Mon, 11/07/2016 - 12:56

It’s funny how one successful hunt can completely restore your faith in hunting, and make up for all those agonizing times of misfortune. I’ve been extremely blessed to be raised in a family that hunts, and I’ve been hunting since I was very little. Like every hunter, I’ve had my share of ups and downs with this sport, learning valuable life lessons primarily through missed shots and missed opportunities – these are often when the most important lessons are learned. This past weekend had a different tune to it, however, and I learned quite possibly the most important hunting...

My ‘Hit List’ of Whitetail Bucks

Mon, 11/07/2016 - 10:37

I’ll spend a good amount of time this week and next week in eastern South Dakota hoping to arrow a mature whitetail. I’m bowhunting a 160-acre river-bottom that’s owned by my in-laws, as well as the two adjacent properties (80 and 160 acres). In total, I have two dozen treestands in place, as well as two box blinds, and I can always set up pop-up-style ground blinds if needed, too. Right now the farmers are finishing up picking corn in the surrounding area, so my river-bottom should get better from now through the end of the season (December 31). Of course, like much of the Midwest,...

Video: Deer Gets Stuck in Cemetery Fence

Fri, 11/04/2016 - 16:03

It’s pretty ironic that as hunters, we have learned to respect deer for their wits, yet we keep seeing them get themselves into these peculiar situations. We just saw how a deer got hung up on a fence and a hunter had to save it. Well, here's another deer that got stuck in a fence, but this one required a little more help. The situation took place at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Jersey, the day before Halloween. First responders of the Read more »

These Animal X-Rays are Incredible

Fri, 11/04/2016 - 10:12

Yes, Halloween has passed, and we're done with spooky things like skeletons and ghosts, but these skeletal x-rays of animals are just so cool, plus there's a twist! These x-ray images show what different animals look like when they're pregnant. They're really amazing, and it's incredible to see how developed the babies are before they're born

He's a picture of a pregnant deer; hopefully this one is a buck!

This turtle x-ray looks like a poster you would see in a black light filled college dorm room.

This x-Ray of a pregnant turtle would make a killer album

Hunter Helps Young Buck Hung Up on Fence

Thu, 11/03/2016 - 13:17

This young button buck got a little hung up on a fence, and a hunter stopped to help him out. The button buck's back leg was caught up high on a fence when the hunter found him, and the deer couldn’t go anywhere. As the hunter approached, the buck panicked but still didn’t budge. Deer are always jumping over fences, even tall ones, and sometimes things go horribly wrong. Fortunately for this buck, however, a hunter was there to give him a hand. It takes a little bit of heavy lifting, but the hunter is eventually able to free the deer's leg from the fence. (Viewing tip: Fast-forward...
