The Truth About Guns

The Kids From Everytown Were Apparently at SHOT Show and They Were Really Really Angry [VIDEO]
We were at the 2023 SHOT Show from Saturday the 14th through Friday the 20th. We attended private range days on Sunday, Industry Day at the Range on Monday, and then walked our legs off Tuesday through Friday on the miles of aisles of the Venetian Convention Center and Caesar’s across the street.
We ate and drank at restaurants and bars at the Venetian/Palazzo complex and other hotels around town.
SHOT Show: Lionheart Industries Vulcan 9 Compact 9mm Pistol
We had seen the announcement of the newest gun from Lionheart, the Vulcan 9 pistol and were intrigued. It seemed to have pretty much every feature we like to see in a compact 9mm handgun.
The Vulcan 9 is the evolution of ‘double action plus’ Lionheart’s Regulus pistol and will replace it in their lineup. The display model has a standard spur hammer, but select models will feature a bobbed hammer for less likelihood of snagging on clothing.
No, Rob Pincus Does Not Agree With Joe Biden on Warning Shots or Cops ‘Shooting to Kill’
The Gun Community™ seems to find a way to get itself into occasional tizzies over things done or said by those within it who are ostensible allies of the right to keep and bear arms. Every once in a while a member of the community will say something that outrages the majority. Many of these offenders have metaphorically shot themselves in the foot and have been driven out of polite (firearm) society.
Some see this as a healthy purging of those who insufficiently support the Second Amendment.
Gun Meme of the Day: SBRs for Everyone! Edition
FYI the ruling still hasn’t been published to the Federal Register, and a slew of lawsuits are being filed. Plus there’s even some decent Congressional attention. I expect we’ll see an injunction on the ruling quite soon.

How We Got Here: The ATF’s Unconstitutional Pistol Brace Ban
By Brandon Williamson
As you’ve no doubt heard, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) has recently unilaterally declared virtually all AR and AK-style pistols with attached stabilizing braces to be short barreled rifles (SBRs). This change places these firearms under regulation by the National Firearms Act (NFA).
This is a significant change and a step backward for Second Amendment rights in our nation.
Because of this change, millions of Americans will soon technically be felons and staring at a potential 10-year prison sentence and fines of up to $250 thousand.
Safety Tip: Always Carry Your Gun, Even for a Quick Trip to Walmart [VIDEO]
Here’s a valuable personal safety tip: always carry your gun. Even if you’re just running out to Walmart to grab some milk, a loaf of bread, and some bananas. Carry your piece. Bad guys and lunatics don’t make appointments to visit violence upon their fellow citizens.
An incident in Evansville, Indiana late last week drives that point home clearly and should provide reason number eleventy-bazillion why you should never leave your gun at home.
SHOT Show: New Guns from Chiappa
I popped by the Chiappa booth at SHOT Show last week and was pretty darn excited by two new guns and one oldie, that has perhaps really come into its own. The 9mm “subgun” in the lead photo is the Chiappa CBR-9 Black Rhino, and it looks and feels like a pretty well-thought-out PDW.
Due to the fact that Chiappa is made in Italy, and with our current U.S. DOJ/ATF importation laws and such, the Black Rhino is only being imported right now in pistol format as seen above.

Breaking Down The Latest Anti-Gun Lie: Americans are Living in a ‘War Zone’
The following article originally appeared at Handwaving Freakoutery and is reprinted here with permission.

On January 24th 2023, the Newton Action Chair Po Murray tweeted this:
We live in a war zone. pic.twitter.com/HNiRgJq6f7

We’re going to tear this tweet apart brick by brick, leaving it a heap of smoldering mathematical rubble, because that’s just how we roll around here.
SHOT Show: DPMS Panther 9mm Compact Concept Pistol
DPMS was quietly showing off a new concept pistol at SHOT last week, the Panther 9mm compact.
Since the Remington bankruptcy, DPMS is now owned by Palmetto State Armory, so they’re building the Panther on the very successful PSA Dagger 9mm frame.
The DPMS Panther 15+1 compact 9mm pistol will have a 3.9″ barrel, an optic-ready slide cut and will fit GLOCK 19 holsters. It will also be conveniently compatible with lots of PSA Dagger accessories.

After Two Mass Shootings, California Rep. Judy Chu Demands Gun Control Laws That Are Already On the Books
From the CCRKBA . . .
California Congresswoman Judy Chu, who represents the state’s 28th Congressional District, reportedly called for universal background checks in the wake of Saturday night’s tragic mass shooting in Monterey Park, telling CBS News it should have passed “a long time ago.”
“But in California,” noted Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, “that has been the law for quite some time.
SHOT Show: The Headrest Safe Company’s Secure Storage for Your Carry Gun
We ran a post a couple of weeks ago when the Headrest Safe Company announced their vehicle storage product. That provoked all kinds of heated comments and criticisms from people who had never seen one. This is, of course, the internet.
Before passing judgement, I stopped by their SHOT Show booth last week to take a look at them for myself, up close and personal like. The Alabama company’s downstairs SHOT Show booth was hopping.
Illinois Gun Rights Alliance Files Latest Challenge to New Gun Control Law as an Overmatched AG Struggles to Keep Up
This morning, the Illinois Gun Rights Alliance, a coalition of gun rights organizations, licensed gun dealers, gun clubs, and some of the best legal minds in Illinois have filed their answer to Governor JB Pritzker’s new gun and magazine bans in federal court.
The coalition seeks to dismantle the onerous new Illinois law that outlaws America’s favorite rifle, the AR-15, and millions of other semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols along with the magazines that feed them.
Sunday Morning Home Invasion Turns Deadly In Terre Haute, Indiana [VIDEO]
Rather than getting ready for church early Sunday morning, a 30-year-old Indiana man decided to try his hand at home invasion in Terre Haute. He probably thought he could pull off an easy score, but he forgot the homeowner had a say in the matter.
In the end, Michael Bell, 30, of Clay City, Indiana died of homeowner-administered gunshot wounds on scene. Another individual who was with him fled. Cops eventually found that person hiding next door, but later released him without charges.
Amanda Suffecool: An Engineer and Gun Rights Advocate is Running for an NRA Board Seat
By John Petrolino
The world of everything guns has been rapidly shifting from male dominance to a symbiotic sharing between males and females alike. The accidental advocate, Amanda Suffecool, didn’t wake up one day and say to herself “How can I immerse myself in the Second Amendment and have my life revolve around it?” Like many, Suffecool’s answer of the call to become an advocate happened gradually and through happenstance. Recently, Suffecool announced she’s running for a spot on the National Rifle Association Board.
SHOT Show: Stag Unveils New Pursuit Hunting Line of AR and Bolt Action Rifles
Stag Arms had a busy SHOT Show rolling out their new Pursuit line of hunting rifles. There are two AR semi-auto Pursuit rilfes, chambered in four calibers; 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 Grendel, .350 legend, and .308.
Stag’s making the Pursuit semi-auto rifles in a range of colors with both left and right eject models. MSRPs range from $1599 to $2249 depending on caliber, barrel length and other options.
The 100% American made ARs have Timney two-stage triggers, Magpul CTR stocks, ambi safety, an embossed leather cheek rest, Cerakoted finish, and a VG6 muzzle brake.
SHOT Show: Laugo Alien Creator Edition
Have about $6,500 to $7,000 burning a hole in your pocket? If so, I would highly suggest taking a look at the Laugo Alien Creator Edition. While the price makes my eyes water and grossly exceeds the value of my 2012 Chrysler Town & Country tactical van, there is no question in my mind that this is, in every way, one of the best pistols ever made.
The Creator Edition of the Laugo Alien has a more vertical grip angle as compared to the original model — much more like a 1911 than a GLOCK.

SHOT Show: New DANIEL SOUNDGUARD Powered by KGM Suppressors
Daniel Defense has rolled out a new line of rifle silencers, called Soundguard. Well, technically speaking they’re called DANIEL SOUNDGUARD Powered by KGM Suppressors. Right off the bat there’s the SG-556, SG-30, and SG-30Ti. While I’ll come right out and say that I was no fan of DD’s first attempt at a silencer some years ago with the Wave (although they did improve it after I had my experience with it), after handling and examining the SOUNDGUARD cans I’m very excited to give them a try.
SHOT Show: GLOCK Clones Go Metal with the MX19 Elite Handgun From Matrix Arms
The explosion in the number of GLOCK Gen 3 clones has apparently been led by some patent expirations. I know nothing of patent law, but I do remember when GLOCK defended their IP quite vigorously. I’m sure S&W remembers as well.
That doesn’t seem to be the case with Anderson, PSA, Adams Arms, and many more who are doing their own thing with Gen 3 Glock platforms. One company doing something different with the familiar platform is Matrix Arms who’s doing things with their MX19 pistol that are breaking the mold.
