The Truth About Guns

SHOT Show: Digging Into the Really New RIA 5.0 9mm Pistol
Truly new guns are few and far between. Virtually everything we have now is basically a clone of something else. Sometimes the size is changed, and sometimes the shape or magazine is altered, but most new guns really aren’t so new.
On the flip side, the Rock Island Armory 5.0 is something new. Like…really new, and that’s rare these days.
Rock Island Armory is known for its imports from the Philippines and Turkey, but the 5.0 is made right here in the good ol’ United States of America.

Illinois Sheriff: I Support the Constitution and the Second Amendment, But . . .
There have been many questions on where I stand regarding the assault weapons ban bill just signed into law. Following the horrifically tragic mass shooting right here in Highland Park, not seven months ago, along with the mass shootings we see on a weekly basis across our nation, I issued a statement, which remains true today.
I said: “As a society, so many have become numb to mass shootings as we read about them nearly every day.

SHOT Show: The GLOCK 47 9mm Pistol Is Finally Available For Everyone
GLOCK, GLOCK, GLOCK…it’s all about GLOCK. GLOCK is the Marvel movie of the gun genre. Some whiners claim they release the same product over and over…but here’s the thing. It’s always worth the squeeze and it’s always successful.
The G47 was something of an enigma. It was only available to the contract holder that requested it, the Department of Homeland Security. Exclusivity breeds desire. Nothing makes people want something more than telling them they can’t have it.
SHOT Show: The Henry Homesteader 9mm Semi-Automatic Carbine
I’m a big fan of pistol-caliber carbines. I know a 5.56 rifle is better, but 9mm is a lot cheaper to shoot. I blame the restrictive nature of my home range maxing out at 100 yards. Maybe that’s why I love PCCs.
Admittedly, most PCCs are predictable. Base it on the AR design and and make it take GLOCK magazines. At SHOT Show range day, however, we were greeted by a new entry in the class from none other than the lever gun maestros at Henry.
SHOT Show: Shooting Beretta’s New 80X Cheetah .380 ACP Pistol
One of the many new-for-SHOT guns that Beretta announced at their pre-SHOT Show range day is the reincarnation of the much-loved and dearly departed Beretta Cheetah of years past. The old Cheetah was available in a few lighter calibers like .22LR, .32 and .380 and went out of production about five years ago.
This new pistol is Beretta’s 80X Cheetah chambered in .380 ACP.
For the fans of the original, this is a reimagined Cheetah, that takes inspiration from the original, but has a number of significant differences and improvements (and no, it won’t take the Model 84’s magazines).
SHOT Show: The New Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol 12 Gauge Shotgun
Beretta’s 1301 tactical shotgun has been one of the most popular personal defense semi-auto smoothbores options from the Italian gun maker. But with the new A300 Ultima Patrol, Beretta aims to give those in the market for 7+1 rounds of fearsome dissuasive power an American made option at a more affordable price.
We got a chance to pepper some targets with the new 1301 Patrol yesterday. It does just about everything the 1301 does in a very compelling feature-packed package.
Gun Review: SIG SAUER Cross Bolt Action Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor
The SIG Cross is well balanced, incredibly flexible, exceptionally precise and perfectly dependable. There’s no wood on it at all. And yet, somehow, SIG SAUER has delivered what may very well be the best short action hunting rifle on the market today.
I did not see that coming.
There are currently two calibers (6.5CM and .308Win….277 SIG Fury has been promised) available. This trial and evaluation rifle is the 6.5 Creedmoor version and includes a 1:8 twist 18″ barrel.
Louisiana Mom Protects Her Children, Shoots and Kills Home Intruder Armed With a Shovel
Don’t mess with a mama bear. Or bring a shovel to a gun fight. A Hammond, Louisiana woman faced down a masked home invader in her bedroom last Sunday morning. As he beat her with a shovel, she managed to access her pistol and shot her attacker repeatedly to protect herself and her children.
It turns out her attacker had attacked and carjacked a good Samaritan hours earlier. Following the mother’s application of deadly force, the attacker died at the scene.
Cleaning and Maintaining Your Magazines – Why, How Often and How to Do It
Magazine maintenance isn’t really a hot topic among gun owners. People love talking about what they do and don’t do in regards to their firearms, but their magazines are often forgotten. This is due, in part, to the idea that they don’t really need much care.
While that’s relatively true in comparison to guns, completely forgetting about the piece of equipment that’s solely responsible for feeding your firearm is a mistake that will eventually catch up with you.

American Journal of Medicine: Belief In Freedom, Distrust of Government are Bad for Your Health
“One possibility relates to a distrust of government or belief in freedom that contributes to both vaccination preferences and increased traffic risks.”
As Sir Bedevere (Terry Jones) proclaimed in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, “who is this who is so wise in the ways of science?” Behold the authors of COVID Vaccine Hesitancy and Risk of a Traffic Crash, published by the American Journal of Medicine but authored by a trio in Canada.
‘Let Go Of My Kid’: Gun-Packin’ Mom Thwarts Attempted Child Abduction in Downtown Des Moines
Hats off to the Des Moines mom who stopped the abduction of her child without firing a shot from her concealed carry piece. The story could have ended very differently, but in the end, the would be child abductors were arrested without any new orifices or blood loss and the mother got her kid back unmolested.
It all went down Thursday when a couple tried to grab a young boy, claiming they were his parents.
SB Tactical: We’re Not Going to Sit Back and Watch ATF Target Law-Abiding Gun Owners
From SB Tactical . . .
Today, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has issued a Final Rule “Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Attached Stabilizing Braces.”
Under this rule, owners of some firearms with Pistol Stabilizing Braces will be forced to choose between registering their lawfully owned, brace-equipped firearms and taking other drastic action such as surrendering it to the federal government, destroying it or facing criminal liability.
BREAKING: ATF Announces ‘Factoring Criteria for Firearms with Pistol Stabilizing Braces’ Rule
Our dear friends at the ATF chose Friday the 13th in the run-up to next week’s SHOT show to announce their final rule on the use of pistol stabilizing braces. Basically…you (mostly) can’t. Maybe what we love the most is the firearms regulators’ assiduous use of scare quotes around the term “stabilizing braces” to let us know that wink-wink these things are really stocks and we’re lucky they haven’t just outlawed them altogether a la bump stocks.
Overwhelming #RESISTANCE: 80+ Sheriffs Tell Illinois Gov. Pritzker They Won’t Enforce His Gun Control Law
Yesterday, we noted that over thirty Illinois sheriffs had publicly told Illinois’ illustrious Gov. J.B. Pritzker they refuse to enforce the new gun ban and registration bill he so gleefully signed into law. The effort reached critical mass as by the end of the day with ninety sheriffs, state’s attorneys and county boards communicating the same message.
Suddenly what J.B. might have thought would be a pillar of a possible presidential campaign announcement has morphed into a political embarrassment.
