The Truth About Guns

How to Meet New People, Preserve Gun Rights, and Save Lives
By Rob Morse
While it may be hard to believe for readers here, a lot of people aren’t gun owners. They don’t share a home with someone who owns a firearm. Most people also believe what they’re told in the news. Put those few facts together and you see another reason I’m passionate about arming school staff to defend our children.
We know that the politicians who serve anti-gun billionaires will push for more gun control after the next attack on a school.
Fargo, ND Sues State Over Preemption Law That Voids the City’s Ban on ‘Kitchen Table’ FFLs
The state’s biggest city has an ordinance that bans people from selling guns and ammunition out of their homes. The Republican-controlled Legislature passed a law this year that limits cities and counties from regulating guns and ammunition. The law, which took effect Tuesday, also voids existing, related ordinances.
The city’s lawsuit says the “stakes are much higher” and gets at whether the Legislature can “strip away” Fargo’s home rule powers.

The Empire Strikes Back: New York City Issuing Fewer Carry Permits Than Before Bruen
From the NRA-ILA
The United States Supreme Court ruling striking down New York State’s concealed carry permit rules as unconstitutional was big news in June of 2022, but indications are that officials in the Big Apple are still trying to decide how to best pretend it never happened.
In that decision, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the Supreme Court invalidated the State’s demanding “proper cause” requirement for carry licenses and its discretionary “may issue” licensing standard.
Rossi Announces the New Single Action Brawler .45 Colt/.410 Pistol
Rossi just released a new pistol that probably isn’t going to be your typical EDC choice, but it should make a fun gun for camping trips or other woods adventures. The new Brawler is a single shot .45 Colt/.410 pistol reminiscent of the Thompson Contender. It’s a big, simple, break open design with an exposed hammer and single action mechanism.
There’s not much to go wrong with the Brawler. It has basic iron sights, but also a Picatinny rail to mount a red dot or long eye relief scope.
How Are You Celebrating National Shooting Sports Month?
The start of August means, once again, a month-long celebration of hunting, target and recreational sport shooting and all-things firearms are in full swing as National Shooting Sports Month kicks off for 2023.
This year has the potential to be one of the most active National Shooting Sports Month celebrations yet. Not only have several million Americans joined the ranks of the gun-owning community by purchasing a firearm for the first time recently, but the pace of gun buying by all Americans from all corners and backgrounds has continued at a breakneck speed.

Brown: Barbieland is Totally Awesome Because It Has No Mass Shooter Ken!
After watching Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, my daughters and I left the theater laughing and crying. But lingering in my mind was a scene that plagued me with reminders of how dystopic America has become in contrast to the dolls’ utopia. And it has to do with guns.
In the film, when the CEO of Mattel, played by Will Ferrell, enters Kendom (formerly known as Barbieland), he and his corporate sidekicks walk into a brawl.

Gear Review: IncogX IWB Hoster from Safariland and Haley Strategic Partners
Travis Haley is a total friggin’ nerd and Safariland can’t make a holster.
Wait…that isn’t quite right. Safariland can make A holster, they just couldn’t make THIS holster. The company is practically synonymous with a wide range of very good retention duty holsters used by the military and law enforcement around the world. But an inside the waistband (IWB) rig, much less an appendix carry IWB, was far outside Safariland’s wheelhouse.
Streamlight Announces the New, Smaller Wedge XT EDC Flashlight
I own a Streamlight Wedge flashlight. It’s a relatively slim, very pocketable rechargeable light that’s easy to slip into a pocket and carry every day. The only knock against the Wedge, though, is it isn’t small.
The Wedge is almost 5.5 inches long. Now Streamlight has come out with a smaller, even more carryable version of the Wedge, the new Wedge XT. It’s only 4.25 inches long. And instead of the two-position switch on the side of the Wedge, the Wedge XT has a programmable and lockable tail switch that puts out either 50 or 500 lumens.
Who Do You Root For? ATF Agent Held Up by a Robbery Crew on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile
Chicago’s long descent into a lawless hell-hole continues apace. The latest evidence is a robbery crew that relieved a 33-year-old ATF agent of “his valuables” at 2:22a.m. this morning. It happened downtown on the formerly “Magnificent Mile.” You know, the part of town that used to be one of the nicest parts of a cosmopolitan modern city. Today it’s a crime-ridden cesspool.
The apparently situationally unaware agent found himself among plenty of company as robbery crews hit a number of victims last night as they do almost every day and night these days.
Gear Review: Primary Arms SLx 1X MicroPrism Scope – Gen II
There are a couple of very big benefits of microprisms over standard red dot sights. The first one most people think of is that shooters with astigmatism can see a prism’s etched reticle without the halo or flare they get with the reflected dot of reflex sights. The other big checkmark on the microprism side of the ledger is you can see that etched reticle whether it’s illuminated or not.
Yes, reflex sights are generally lighter by a couple of ounces (or more, depending on their size), but microprisms can be magnified where a red dot is strictly a 1X optic.

July Marked the 48th Straight Month – 4 Years – of Firearm Sales Over 1 Million
Gun Nation just passed a significant milestone. July was the 48th consecutive month with one million or more adjusted background checks, the best measure of retail gun sales. That’s a very big deal for a couple of reasons.
First, the NSSF’s adjusted number is really a minimum. It doesn’t account for sales of multiple firearms in on transaction and it doesn’t include sales in states that don’t require background checks for carry permit holders (never mind private sales).
Trijicon Announces the New RMR HD Red Dot Sight
The enclosed emitter RCR wasn’t the only new red dot sight Trijicon announced yesterday. They also introduced the new RMR HD. In addition to a slightly larger window than a standard RMR, Trijicon bills the new RMR HD as ruggedized and designed for duty gun use by law enforcement and the military. It features selectable reticles, an onboard forward-looking sensor to automatically adjust reticle brightness, and still has the standard RMR footprint. Here’s Trijicon’s press release .

Joe Biden Will Be Very Unhappy if You Go to the Gun Rights Policy Conference
By Lee Williams
The Second Amendment Foundation’s Gun Rights Policy Conference is something unique in the gun world.
There aren’t acres of booths or tables covered with guns and gear. The conference was not designed for manufacturers or distributors, although they’re certainly welcome.
GRPC was designed for us.
What you will get is a master’s class in grassroots activism, delivered by the best people the gun world has to offer.
Trijicon Announces the New RCR Enclosed Emitter Red Dot Sight
With pistol red dots becoming must-have accessories for many gun owners, the next step in the evolution has been enclosed emitter designs. Think popular models like the SIG SAUER ROMEO2, Aimpoint’s ACRO, the Steiner MPS, and Holosun’s HE509T. Now Trijicon enters that group with their new RCR (Ruggedized Closed Reflex) sight. Unlike other enclosed emitter designs, the RCR doesn’t require a custom mounting plate, either.
Here’s their press release . . .
Trijicon, Inc., the global provider of innovative aiming solutions to the military, law enforcement, and personal-defense minded individuals, is proud to introduce the new Trijicon RCR or Ruggedized Closed Reflex.
NJ Gun Owners Get Whacked With More on ‘Bruen Response’ Law Due to Overzealous Training
The saga of New Jersey’s so-called “carry-killer” Bruen response law has been playing out for months. Previously we’ve reported on the two challenges to New Jersey’s law that was enacted in December, which seriously limits the right to carry in the Garden State. Formerly, there were two temporary restraining orders and a preliminary injunction in the Federal Court for the District of New Jersey. On an emergency appeal to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, the state of New Jersey managed to secure a partial stay of the injunction, allowing some provisions of the law to be enforced.
Going Long: Improving Your Skills at a High Elevation Precision Rifle Course
“What exactly do you consider to be long range?” That’s a good question and it is truly subjective. If you have a Ruger 10/22 in your hands, 100 yards is long range. If you’re shooting at a whitetail with a Remington 870 loaded with slugs, an 87 yard shot is long range.
However, when you move west of the Mississippi River and the country starts to open up, long range with centerfire rifles doesn’t even begin until you are farther than 300 yards.
