The Truth About Guns

Gun Review: Springfield Armory Echelon 9mm Pistol
It’s easy to say, “Ho hum, another polymer-framed 9mm striker-fired pistol.” We live in a golden age of well made, reliable 9mm handguns and after a while, they all start to look the same. But there’s more to the Springfield Echelon than meets the eye.
I’m not certain the Echelon would motivate me to sell my carry gun to purchase Springfield’s latest, but if I were in the market for a new 9mm pistol the Springfield would be near the top of my list.

St. Louis and Washington D.C. Demonstrate – Yet Again – That Gun Control Isn’t About Reducing Crime
With many prominent government officials exhibiting a flagrant indifference to violent crime, it’s getting harder for anti-gun politicians to pretend that their gun control schemes are anything other than a means to harass law-abiding gun owners. Recent incidents from anti-gun jurisdictions St. Louis and the District of Columbia further illustrate this point.
In early July, the St. Louis NBC affiliate published text messages from Mayor Tishaura Jones obtained under the state’s Sunshine Law.
In Praise of the Absence of a Manual Safety
Contributor John Sprague gave us his take on the manual safety in the piece entitled, in a post over the weekend. Mr. Sprague says that for him, a manual safety strikes the perfect balance in terms of safety versus a reduction of readiness. Good for him. That’s a decision we all have to make for ourselves and I’m glad he’s found the right balance for him.
Real world experience has driven me to the opposite side of that equation for everything except 1911-style pistols when it comes to manual safeties.

ATF Taking Down Retail Gun Sellers, One FFL at a Time
By Lee Williams
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives isn’t regulating the firearms industry as required by statute. The ATF is choking the life out of it – tearing it down, one gun dealer at a time.
Before Joe Biden declared war on gun dealers, ATF inspectors used a five-percent rule. If less than five percent of a gun dealer’s paperwork contained errors, the ATF would take minor corrective action, usually a warning letter or a warning conference.

Cornyn’s Folly: Garland DOJ Using BSCA Federal Funds to ‘Strong-Arm’ States Into Enacting Red Flag Laws
In 2022, Congress passed, and President Biden signed, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act in response to mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, that left dozens dead. The law incentivizes states to pass extreme risk protection laws, also called “red flag” laws, that allow members of the public and law enforcement to petition courts for a civil order to temporarily suspend a person’s access to firearms for fear that person might do violence.
Gun Tweet of the Day: Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS ‘Shapewear’ Saved My Life When I Was Shot
TikTok creator says wearing Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS shapewear saved her life when she got shot:

Things That Don’t Suck: The Gunzee for Concealed Carry Holsters
It’s supposed to be comforting, not comfortable! How many times have we heard that in the gun world? I get the idea behind the phrase, but I want it to be comfy too.
What’s the main reason we carry small guns these days? Modern , well-designed holsters have made it fairly easy to conceal larger guns, but comfort is still a big factor. Bigger guns have bigger holsters, especially if you add accessories like lights.
Voters Aren’t Buying the Gun Control Laws Anti-Gun Politicians are Selling
Politicians in New York and California push extreme gun control restrictions under the guise of keeping people “safe.” Governors Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul should take note – their voters disagree.
Perception is reality and if voters feel endangered by surging criminal violence and continue to see news stories of violent criminals being let off easy by soft-on-criminal prosecutors in their cities, they will act to ensure their safety. That includes legally purchasing a firearm for self-defense – maybe even as a first-time buyer.
SHOCKER: Gutless David Hogg Refuses to Debate Colion Noir on the Second Amendment
As Colion Noir puts it in the video above, “The problem with the gun debate in this country is, there is no debate. Because the only people willing to debate is the pro-2A community.”
David Hogg backed out of a debate that was scheduled by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and the Center for the Study of a Liberal Democracy when he found out his opponent would be Colion.
Pattern of Harassment: ATF Targets Another Home-Based FFL
By Lee Williams
Tom Harris has been selling guns out of his Lewisville, Texas home for 30 years. He is so respected and beloved by his customers that one gave him a kidney – literally – which saved his life.
Dialysis wasn’t working well for Harris, owner of Sporting Arms Company, which he operates from a dedicated space in his home. He had only months to live until a 39-year-old retired Marine offered to help.

San Jose’s Gun Owner Insurance Mandate Was Nothing More Than Political Theater
San Jose’s gun liability insurance requirement — the first-of-its-kind in America and upheld by a federal court judge last week — will make the city safer from the firearm-related violence that has wreaked havoc across the nation, its proponents assert.
But nearly eight months after the ordinance went into effect on Jan. 1, not a single resident has been cited for not having the insurance, according to the city manager’s office, raising questions about the law’s effectiveness.
5th Circuit Denies ATF’s Request to Stay Decision Throwing Out its Ban on ‘Ghost Guns’
Another defeat for Biden’s war on guns always gets the week off to a good start. On July 1, a Federal District Judge threw out the ATF’s “frame and receiver” that bans so-called ghost guns. The ATF asked the Fifth Circuit to stay the District Judge’s order, allowing them to enforce the ban while the case is being decided. Today, the Fifth Circuit told the ATF to pound sand.
You can read today’s ruling here, but in a nutshell, the court ruled that .

Gear Review: Streamlight TLR-7 Sub Gun Light
Shrinking tech doesn’t affect the gun industry much. There’s only so much room for a 5.56-round or a 9mm magazine. Where we see some advancement is in the electronics we slap on our guns.
Red dots and lights have slowly gotten smaller while also getting more powerful. The Streamlight TLR-7 SUB, for example, can fit on a subcompact or micro-compact pistol and still provide a bright white light source when you need it most.

Why Has a Minnesota Man Been Charged With Two Felonies for Making Legal Firearms for His Own Use?
Despite the best efforts of the Biden Administration and the weaponized regulatory apparatus that is the ATF, it’s still legal for Americans to build their own firearms in most of the United States. Since a now obscure California politician coined the goosebump-inducing moniker “ghost gun” almost a decade ago, the Gun Control Industry™ latched onto it and the media have compliantly echoed the term ever since. All the better to scare the bejeezus out of low-information types and drive home the immediacy of the dire threat that home-made firearms pose to a peaceful society.

Home Invader Shot by BOTH Homeowners When They Returned Fire During Burglary Attempt
McDonald County, Missouri is in the extreme southwest part of the state, hard on the borders of Oklahoma and Arkansas. It’s an Ozark county populated by people who declared their independence from the state in 1961. In short, they’re not people you want to mess with.
If only a would-be burglar knew a little more about McDonald County before he let himself into a local home last week.
Two homeowners came home at about 9:30pm to find 62-year-old James Garrett skulking around their Tiff City house.

The photo, which appeared in a tweet posted by the ATF‘s Houston division was roasted by several users on Twitter, who pointed out that it was an unsafe gun practice to point a gun towards someone’s crotch as they are loading the magazine.
Personal Defense Tip: Practice The Tueller Drill [VIDEO]
In a town a little north of me, police shot and killed a woman who was armed with a knife and threatening people in a convenience store. In the aftermath, when interviewed by local TV stations, everyone there who talked to the reports expressed surprise. Two people said they didn’t see why the police had to shoot her, as she “only had a knife.”
To show why police shoot noncompliant folks who are armed “only” with knives, I paraphrase Massad Ayoob, who once said that we must respect any weapon that can send us to the morgue in more than one body bag.

Gear Review: Primary Arms SLx RS-10 Red Dot Sight
If you’ve seen a lot of pistol red dot reviews around here recently, it’s because of their increased popularity and the number of manufacturers that are adding to and updating their lines to meet the demand. Primary Arms has been known for good, affordably-priced optics for years and their SLx RS-10 1×23 3 MOA red dot carries on that tradition.
The RS-10 is the first red dot sight Primary Arms has designed entirely themselves.
