Armordillo Concealment OWB X-Fer

Wed, 01/15/2014 - 21:02

Remember the X-Fer by Armordillo Concealment? Ever since Booth from Armordillo Concealment first told me about the X-Fer, I’ve been asking him to make an outside the waistband (OWB) version. Well today I got to take a look at the prototype of exactly that.

The photos above are a prototype version only, the production version will have slightly different aesthetics and a different mounting syst

Nissan and SHOT Show

Wed, 01/15/2014 - 11:37

At SHOT Show Media Day this year, I was talking with my buddy Paul Carlson about Nissan stepping up to sponsor the Press Room, and how refreshing it was to see a big company not normally associated with the firearms industry step up in an active role of sponsorship.

Here’s what Paul had to say:

So in this time where many companies seem to live in fear of an association with firearms and the firearms industry I am thrilled to see Nissan having the courage to step forward and take an active role in both SHOT Show and the firearms world in general. Nissan builds rugged trucks and they fit in perfectly with what hunters and shooters do and where hunters and shooters go. It really is a good match.

As a result of Nissan’s decision to sponsor the SHOT Show press room I have made the professional decision to make sure to take some time out from guns on media day and get behind the wheel of a Nissan truck

The Tiny Inconspicuous Handcuff Key

Sun, 01/12/2014 - 14:10

Our friends at Vigilant Gear emailed me a few days ago to let me know that they started carrying the Tiny Inconspicuous Handcuff Key (TIHK). If you’ve never heard of the TIHK before, it started out as a crowd funded project, and recently TIHK completed their first production run.

TIHK Description/Specifications

TIHK is a patent pending handcuff key that utilizes an integrated clip for easy attachment to your clothing so it is ready when needed.  Its minimal, low-profile design and low-visibility coating ensure that it can be carried inconspicuously and go undetected when detained. National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill

Sat, 01/11/2014 - 16:42

On Monday, Senator John Cornyn (R. TX) will introduce the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014, which would allow individuals with concealed carry permits in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that also has concealed carry laws.

This bill would “treat state-issued concealed-carry permits like drivers’ licenses, allowing law-abiding citizens with concealed carry privileges to concealed-carry in any other states that also permit it by law.”

This isn’t the first time Sen. Cornyn has introduced such legislation. Last April, a similar bill fell just three votes short of obtaining the 60 Senate votes needed to overcome a filibuster. This can definitely pass –

Active Shooter Citizen Response

Sat, 01/11/2014 - 15:55

Over a year ago and after serious consideration, I finally decided to put together a course I had been thinking of.  At that point, I had been an active shooter response instructor for law enforcement/military for some time and was well into using a Single Officer Response to an Active Shooter program I had designed to address the overwhelming reality of active shooter events.  The simple fact is that there often is no time for an officer to wait for two, three or four additional officers to confront an active shooter; an officer should move to confront the shooter as soon as possible to prevent further loss of life.

It was during the design of the Single Officer program that I came across repeated truths in my research; well over half of all active shooters are stopped by citizen, not police.  This didn’t amaze me, because I know from teaching the quality of motivated citizens and how strong their resolve can be when it comes to defending life.  But the fact did make me wonder; if over half of active shooters are stopped by a CCW or even an unarmed citizen, how many more might have been stopped if an everyday man or

Remington 700 LTR

Tue, 01/07/2014 - 10:59

Coming from a precision shooting background I tend to get a fair amount of questions from people about what kind of rifle they should buy to get started in this particular discipline of shooting, and typically, I recommend a Remington 700.  If this conversation takes place at my local shooting range, then invariably some guy pretending to be a “former military sniper” or some other expert in the field jumps in and recommends some other rifle.

Now let me start off by saying that I do not claim to know everything there is to know about precision shooting and really don’t consider myself an expert in it either.  However, I do have a fair amount of training and a lot of trigger time behind scoped rifles of various manufacturers and calibers. About 90% of that training and trigger time is behind a Remington 700 action of some kind and the model that I currently prefer is the Light Tactical Rifle or LTR.

Chicago’s Ban on Firearms Sales Declared Unconstitutional

Mon, 01/06/2014 - 22:25

Good news for those of you stuck behind enemy lines in the Windy City. A federal judge ruled today that the city’s ban on firearms sales in unconstitutional.

I’m tempted to lament the fact that it took a federal judge to point this out, and I’m also tempted to get on Twitter and rub it in Mayor Emanuel’s face. But it’s late, so I’ll just skip all that and accept the win for what it is: a win.

Gun dealers can set up shop in Chicago, a federal judge has ruled — declaring the city’s ban on firearms sales unconstitutional.

U.S. District Court Judge Edmond E. Chang wrote in a 35-page opinion published Monday that Chicago’s 2010 ordinance banning gun sales within city limits “goes too far in outright banning legal buyers and legal dealers from engaging in lawful acquisitions and lawful sales of firearms.”

Cold Weather Preparedness

Mon, 01/06/2014 - 14:08

For most of you reading this, winter is here and in full swing. If you look at a temperature map of the United States, it’s just plain cold outside, and with the cold comes snow. Mix in some wind to the equation and you have stranded motorists, people stuck in their homes without power, etc. What amazes me about winter every year is how much it surprises people, and how unprepared some folks are.

If you’ve live somewhere warm like Miami all your life and you move somewhere cold like Duluth, then I kinda get how someone could underestimate winter and be unprepared (or under-prepared), but for most of us, there’s no excuse. Along these lines, I saw a PSA of sorts by Fortress Defense Consultants on Facebook, and I thought it was worth passing along as a reminder to those of you who aren’t prepared.

Never ceases to amaze us how many people leave the house unprepared for ANYTHING.

Yes, it is January and there are blizzards and negative tempera

HSGI AO Small Chest Rig

Mon, 01/06/2014 - 09:51

My first experience with High Speed Gear products was more than a few years ago when looking for a high quality, open-top magazine pouch that would support an AK profile magazine in 7.62×39.  At the time, the market only supported a few that I found and none of them could be described as high quality.

HSGI offered the Taco pouch, I ordered one to give it a try and have ordered many more since then for both AK and AR style magazines, as well as the pistol size Taco pouches because they are simply one of the most versatile and well-made pouch designs out there.  So when given the chance to do a review on the HSGI AO Small Chest Rig I expected great things and hoped HSGI wouldn’t let me down.

First, I’m more of a plate carrier guy.  My profession has usually demanded the level IV variety of ammunition and equipment carrying systems, so the general chest rig market has been mostly avoided by me because the majority of them are not designed with any sort of in

Glock 42 First Look

Fri, 01/03/2014 - 23:21

Glock dropped a YouTube video today discussing the new Glock 42. Honestly for a company the size of Glock, this video is kind of embarrassing, but does provide some more information about the new pocket pistol.

Additionally, 2VA will be building and cerakoting the rifle, as well as providing FFL transfer to the winner.

G-Code HSP D3 Carrier System

Tue, 12/31/2013 - 09:52
An All-Encompassing Ammunition Accoutrement

The G-Code and Haley Strategic Partners (HSP) D3 Carrier System collaboration, at its core, is a group of highly modular ammunition carrying equipment capable of being transformed for multiple roles and environments and adapting to the end user’s requirements.

All the pieces of the kit can be interchanged with one another to suit the mission or training regime.

While the component configurations are quite diverse and can be moved and tweaked to the user’s liking, the system itself will be typically limited to [and used mostly on] the waist belt, the thigh and possibly a plate carrier with PALS webbing.

2014 Descendants of Sparta Rifle

Mon, 12/30/2013 - 16:59

Last spring we teamed up with a bunch of different companies to raise money through an AR-15 giveaway of sorts to benefit the Descendants of Sparta, and today I am happy to announce that we are doing it again.

A few days ago Dean from 2 Vets Arms called and said he wanted to put together another Descendants of Sparta rifle, and use serial number 0001 from the Spartan lower run that started it all (pictured below). A few phone calls and emails later, and this is the result.
