Marcus Hook Mayor James ‘Jay” Schiliro, seen here in March 2013, was found guilty last month of recklessly endangering another person, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, official oppression, and fu

Open Carry Is Legal in Michigan – That’s Why the Confrontation in This Video Has Sparked a Federal Lawsuit

Tue, 01/14/2014 - 14:53

In the state of Michigan, it is legal to openly carry a handgun. However, when a police officer in Grand Rapids responded to a March 3 call about a man doing exactly that, he drew his weapon and ordered the man to the ground.

Pro-Gun Lawmakers Eye State-by-State Strategy to Nullify Federal Gun-Control Statutes

Sun, 01/12/2014 - 16:41

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Having failed in an earlier effort to bar federal agents from enforcing gun regulations in Missouri, conservative lawmakers are trying a new tack this year: banding together with other like-minded states to defy certain federal laws at the same time.

Supporters believe it will be more difficult for the federal government to shrug off such statutes if more states act together.

Missouri’s latest proposal, introduced this past week, would attempt to nullify certain federal gun control regulations from being enforced in the state and subject law enforcement officers to criminal and civil penalties for carrying out such policies.

In a Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 file photo, Sen. Brian Nieves, left, R-Washington, discusses the override the governor’s veto of a bill that atte

Why a Texas Gun Show Is Getting Shut Down

Wed, 01/08/2014 - 19:54

Saxet Gun Shows have been held nearly every month since 2010 at an Austin, Texas-area exposition center, but that’s ending after this month.

Travis County commissioners voted not to renew Saxet’s lease for the county’s expo center, ending weeks of negotiations for shows that would have spanned over the next year, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

The reason? County officials wanted Saxet to require background checks for all firearm sales, including those from private sellers.

Couple Pulls a Gun While Stealing From Sears. They Likely Weren’t Counting on the Former Marine Nearby.

Wed, 01/08/2014 - 07:33

We don’t know if Michael John Hough and Shaashana Marie Hough, husband and wife, ever saw “Les Miserables,” but they’re telling a similar story to explain why they stole a power screwdriver from a Phoenix-area Sears and then pulled a gun when confronted by a loss prevention officer.

The problem is, when they pulled their stunt last Friday, a former Marine was nearby witnessing the whole thing as his wife exited the mall where the Sears was located. And he wasn’t going to stand by. He pulled a gun of his own and fired multiple shots, sending the couple scrambling on a motorcycle.
