On Wednesday, February 7th, the Michigan Senate Elections & Ethics Committee took testimony on House Bill 4127 and HB 4128. These bills would restrict law-abiding citizens, with concealed carry permits, in and around polling places, which includes ballot drop boxes. Progressive Democrats in the New Mexico Senate passed House Bill 129, the 7-day waiting period bill, on a 23-18 vote last night after rejecting floor amendments offered by Senate Republicans to exempt gun buyers who pass an FBI firearm background check, active military personnel, and persons who have obtained an order of protection against an abuser.

New Mexico House Narrowly Passes Waiting Period Bill, Sending HB 129 to the Senate

Late Friday afternoon, the New Mexico House narrowly passed House Bill 129 on a 37-33 vote after amending the original 14-day delay for gun buyers. HB 129 now imposes a 7-day waiting period on firearms purchases by law-abiding citizens, including concealed handgun licensees and anyone else who passes a firearm background (NICS) check. This is more than double the length of the gun purchase delay in the neighboring state of Colorado (3 days).
