1 Million+, 49 Consecutive Months

Tue, 09/05/2023 - 09:05

Gun sales across the United States reached over 1 million for 49 consecutive months, according to new data even as the Biden administration tries to crack down on firearms.

The FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System showed just over 2 million federal background checks occurred in August 2023. When the figure was adjusted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation to more accurately reflect likely retail firearms sales, that number decreased to nearly 1.12 million checks last month, according to Guns.com.

“This has happened every month for more than four years continuously,” Mark Oliva, the foundation’s public affairs officer, said.

ATF Aims To Kill Private Sales

Tue, 08/08/2023 - 00:11

The Biden administration will use executive orders and the weaponized ATF to issue a rule limiting the private sales of firearms. According to the New York Times and verified by AmmoLand News sources, the new rule is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year.

President Joe Biden plans to announce that he is directing the ATF to close what Everytown calls the “private sales loophole” and the “digital loophole.” The “private sales loophole” is when an individual sells a firearm for profit but does not possess a Federal Firearm License (FFL).

Biden will call on the ATF to develop a new rule requiring anyone who makes any profit by selling firearms to possess an FFL. Guns tend to increase in value over time. A gun purchased in 1980 will likely sell for more money today than its original value.

Taxed At 1000%

Mon, 08/07/2023 - 13:11

Democrats in the House of Representatives are pressuring Speaker Kevin McCarthy to hold a vote on legislation that would place an excise tax on what they consider “assault weapons” and increase gun prices by 1,000%.

More than two dozen Democrats, including Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia, penned a letter to the House speaker to bring the legislation to the floor “as soon as possible,” The Hill reported.

The members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force put forward the same suggestions that were proposed in 2022 when 38 Democrats wanted the incredible tax increase.

An excise tax, which places a duty on the product at the moment of manufacturing, would increase the price of a $1,000 firearm to $10,000 before it even gets to a retailer.

Wed, 06/14/2023 - 13:34

The House of Representatives approved a bill to nullify a controversial rule from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) regulating pistol stabilizing braces. The measure will now proceed to the Democrat-controlled Senate, where it is expected to fail.

President Joe Biden has said he will veto the bill if it clears the Senate.

BUMP Act – Bill To Ban Bump Stocks

Thu, 06/08/2023 - 15:09

A bipartisan group of lawmakers will introduce a bill on Thursday to ban the sale of bump stocks and other devices that enable semi-automatic firearms to increase their rate of fire and effectively operate as fully automatic weapons, the bill’s lead sponsor told CNN.

Democratic Sens. Martin Heinrich and Catherine Cortez Masto, as well as Republican Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic Rep. Dina Titus, have all signed onto the bill. The proposed legislation comes after two federal appeals courts ruled to strike down a 2017 ban on bump stocks from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The bill faces an uphill battle on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers have conceded that the recent shootings across the US are not enough move substantial gun reform measures through a divided Congress.

Proposed 28th Amendment

Thu, 06/08/2023 - 10:11

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday said he is proposing the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which will restrict gun rights.

The proposed amendment would raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21, implement universal background checks, create what Newsom called a “reasonable waiting period for gun purchases” and ban civilians from buying so-called “assault weapons,” according to the governor’s announcement.

Obama Praises Australian Gun Confiscation

Tue, 05/16/2023 - 14:13

Former President Barack Obama praised Australia’s gun confiscation following a mass shooting during an interview that aired Tuesday morning.

“We are unique among advanced, developed nations in tolerating, on a routine basis, gun violence in the form of shootings, mass shootings, suicides,” Obama told “CBS This Morning” co-host Nate Burleson. “In Australia, you had one mass shooting 50 years ago and they said, ‘No, we’re not doing that anymore.’ That is normally how you would expect a society to respond when your children are at risk.”
