Home Invader Attacks Woman, Then Dies

Wed, 12/16/2015 - 13:33

Stone Mountain, GA – As yet another example of why people need guns – readily available, loaded guns – we cite this reported incident in Georgia, where a 28-year-old man entered an apartment by force and acted violently upon a woman inside.

Bugs Bunny’s Carrot-in-Elmer-Fudd’s-Shotgun – For Real

Wed, 12/16/2015 - 11:36

If you had the good fortune to grow up watching Bugs Bunny cartoons, you saw ol’ Bugs pursued by shotgun-totin’ doofus Elmer Fudd.

You also saw Bugs win again and again – often by plugging the muzzle of Elmer’s shotgun barrel with something – such as the ever-present carrot. Doing so generally resulted in the shotgun exploding, or backfiring in the face of Fudd – with no harm to Bugs.

Well, someone asked the Demolition Ranch folks about it, and they gave it a try. You can view the results in the video below.

Be warned: It ain’t pretty.

Variant Chamberings for the AR Platform

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 19:06

Believe it or not, the AR-15 rifle platform comes in a wide variety of cartridge chamberings besides the .223/5.56. I highly suspect that the standard .223/5.56 chamber comes in probably 90 percent plus of the ARs manufactured. However, this should do nothing to deter lovers of the AR configuration to actively try out other viable chamberings in an AR rifle.

Review: Canik-55 TP-9

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 19:02

Anyone who has followed my gun and knife articles for the past 20+ years knows that I love a bargain. Not too long ago I came upon a great bargain in the form of the Canik-55 TP-9, a high-cap 9mm handgun made in Turkey that cosmetically resembles the Walther P99. (The Canik and the Walther do not appear to have any interchangeable parts, and the Canik-55 TP-9 is a larger handgun overall. )

Assault Weapons: Gun Control’s New Target of Opportunity

Tue, 12/15/2015 - 09:33

After their recent front-page editorial calling for gun confiscation, the NYT has now gone back to the well and taken a deep, deep drink of crazy. My initial reaction to this latest editorial, which is basically a call for a new, beefier Assault Weapons Ban, was bewilderment.

In the Field: Bullseye Camera Systems Remote Target Camera

Mon, 12/14/2015 - 15:05

Earlier this year, I wrote about the Bullseye Camera System, which allows you to see your shots clearly on the screen of an electronic device, even at very long range. As I said in that post, I was impressed. And now, I’m even more impressed.

Crowbar vs. Handgun… Guess Who Won?

Sat, 12/12/2015 - 14:27

Tulsa, Oklahoma – When a crowbar-wielding man reportedly approached and threatened another man at a Tulsa-area Burger King restaurant, the would-be victim responded by drawing his concealed handgun and shooting the crook.

Injured in the shoulder, the attacker fled in a vehicle, and was later located by police in a local hospital.

The good guy was duly licensed and acted in self-defense, according to the police.

And some people wonder why we need to carry guns everywhere we go.

Silly Putty, Fired From a Shotgun (Video)

Sat, 12/12/2015 - 10:16

I fondly remember Silly Putty from my youth, when I would pretty much run the gamut of things it would do: Make a ball and bounce it, stretch it into weird shapes, flatten it into comic strips in the newspaper to lift the ink from the newsprint, etc.

But ya know, I never did fire it from a shotgun.

Well, these guys did.

Turns out, Silly Putty hits pretty hard! Watch the video to see it for yourself.

1893 Gave us the First Successful Semi-Auto Pistol (Video)

Sat, 12/12/2015 - 09:59

Designed by an intelligent German gun designer named Hugo Borchardt, the Loewe C93 was the first semi-automatic pistol to enjoy any kind of commercial success. Although a bit unwieldy due to the large mainspring assembly which protrudes to the rear above the grip, this gun managed to set the standard for placing the magazine inside the gun’s grip, which of course is still common practice today.

Fri, 12/11/2015 - 11:28

This falls in the category of things we already knew – most of us, anyhow – but which really need to be presented and explained to all those who shout for even more restrictive gun laws than the already-failed ones we already have.

BREAKING: Connecticut Governor Moves to Ban People on No-Fly List from Buying Guns

Thu, 12/10/2015 - 13:24

This is madness:

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy plans to sign the first executive order in the nation to ban the sales of guns to people on federal government watch lists.

“We intend to prevent, by executive order through my powers as governor, those on government watch lists from obtaining a permit to purchase a firearm in Connecticut,” the Democratic governor said in a news conference Thursday.

Anyone who wishes to buy a gun in Connecticut must first apply for a permit from a public safety agency, then a thorough background check is conducted, Malloy said.

Wed, 12/09/2015 - 18:08

You’ve waited all year long for the season opener for deer hunting. All the preparations have been made. The camp work is mostly done, plots are in, stands are repaired and readied, guns and gear is checked, cleaned, packed. Camp house menus are planned and the grocery shopping is done.
