Assemble Your Own Store Bought First Aid Kit

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 17:21

After a recent research review of pre-packaged first aid kits, I have decided that survivalists, preppers, campers, hunters, and all other outdoors people can probably just as well create their own. Now, not that there is anything at all wrong with buying a ready to go first aid kit, but some of them are pretty pricy. So, why not make up your own.

Trail Camera Hanging Hotspots

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 17:21

So, you bought a new trail camera or several. The question remains where to hang them for maximum collection of deer herd assessment data. Naturally, landowners, deer managers, and deer hunters alike want to “see” the deer on their properties and there has been no better technology in the past 20 years than the evolution of trail cameras. But they have to be in the right places to capture the most revealing images of deer.

Midwest Industries Light Carbine

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 17:21

When I first saw this rifle in the hands of the renown firearms trainer Tatiana Whitlock, it caught my attention by the absence of exotic materials. No carbon fiber, no magnesium, no unobtanium, just purposeful and logical design towards a durable but lightweight carbine.

Shooting from Shooting Sticks

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 19:16

One of the keys to accurate rifle shooting is being steady. This can be done by shooting stances, sling holds, props like shooting benches, stair rails, fences, trees or other supports. Another way to get a steady hold afield is to use homemade shooting sticks or commercially made sticks by Bog-Pod or the Primos’ Trigger Sticks.

New England Firearms R-92: a Neat Little Gun

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 19:16

I tend to be an impulse gun buyer. I suppose besides from collecting information and photos on guns by attending a lot of gun shows, I tend to always find something to buy. I often look for the underdog guns, not necessarily a collector firearm, but just neat guns or something I think I can use for prepping work or at hunting camp. My latest acquisition is a New England Firearms (NEF) Model R-92. Bet you never heard of it.

Best Bets For Bucks: Wisconsin

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 19:03

The Badger State is on the radar screen for many hunters after buster bucks, including those in famed Buffalo County near the Mississippi River.  But Buffalo County is mostly private land.  Fortunately, there are many places strewn around the state offering first-rate opportunities for the public to tag a great deer, according to Jason Fleener, a state deer biologist.  Fleener advises concentrating on the eastern and western farm land regions.  These areas have abundant deer, and some big bucks, too.

Buck Marksman Review

Mon, 11/30/2015 - 16:43

If Thomas Edison made knives, he’d be Grant and Gavin Hawk.  The number of unique designs and innovations that pour out of the Hawk’s design studio and workshop in Idaho is staggering.  From the MUDD (a knife with a sealed pivot) to the new Deadlock OTF Switchblade (with zero blade play, an OTF first), the creativity the father and son team have displayed is unmatched in the knife world.  They are really the closest we have to an Edison.

Craigslist Crime Thwarted by Pistol-Packin’ Woman

Mon, 11/30/2015 - 12:03

When a couple reportedly responded to an ad on craigslist and attempted to buy a vehicle, the pair of men with whom they were dealing revealed firearms and threatened them in an attempted robbery.

The female victim drew her concealed firearm and fired at one of the crooks, who was pointing his own gun at her boyfriend. The other bad guy fled.

The victims then left the scene, driving to a nearby gas station to call 911 and await police.

Police found one criminal dead at the scene, and were unable to apprehend the one who fled.

Nice shooting, ma’am.

Eek! Rubber Bullets! Actually, Foam Earplugs Work Pretty Well (Video)

Mon, 11/30/2015 - 11:37

Last summer, a reporter in Ferguson posted a photo of orange foam earplugs, asking his social media followers whether they could confirm that they were rubber bullets.

Er… they weren’t.

But a shooter decided to try using foam earplugs as practice projectiles in 45 Colt ammo, in his single action revolver. His results were actually pretty good, with the soft foam easily breaking balloons and even cracking the surface of corrugated cardboard.

Check it out in the earplug bullets video below… seems like an easy way to load practice ammo without buying a bunch of specialized stuff.

How Much Paper Does it Take to Stop a 50-cal Bullet? (Video)

Sat, 11/28/2015 - 10:51

In this video from Demolition Ranch, the boys fire a pair of five-shot stainless-steel magnum revolvers – but they’re not quite the same.

One is a North American Arms 22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire)… and the other is a S&W in 500 S&W Magnum.

It was all about seeing how many reams of paper it would take to stop each bullet.

But as with so many DR videos, that was all prologue – an intro to the silly-looking setup of a 50 BMG rifle – silly because of the twine and concrete blocks – and an attempt to measure the paper penetration of the 50 BMG round.

Enjoy.
