Video: Ravens Attack Bear Climbing Electric Tower to Eat Their Eggs

Tue, 05/19/2015 - 17:15

How far will one bear go for some scrambled eggs? If they’re hungry enough, they sky’s the limit—literally. This brave bear apparently decided to climb a massive electric tower just to pilfer some eggs from what appeared to be a raven’s nest. The encounter was photographed by Mossberg’s Director of Media Relations, Linda Powell, during a wood bison hunt in Alberta last week. Commenters who saw the pictures were initially skeptical, with many musing that the photos were just clever Photoshop trickery. Mossberg quickly dispelled those rumors with a video recording.

“Sorry to burst the conspiracy bubble….they’re real,” the gun maker wrote on Facebook.

PSA: Respect Binary Explosives – They Can and Will (Try To) Kill You (VIDEO)

Tue, 05/19/2015 - 17:14

I’ll admit it, I am completed enthralled with binary explosves like Tannerite. Having said that, I use them with extreme caution, typically on sanctioned ranges under good conditions at minimum safe distances. Those that do not heed the warnings risk life and limb.

FPSRussia’s infamous video is the most obvious reminder, but a new one cropped up a bit ago on a single rock being thrown at lethal velocity over 100 yards.

Video: Bobcat Squares Off with Coyote

Tue, 05/19/2015 - 10:48

In their respective niches, the bobcat and coyote are two of the most successful small predators in North America. Yet what happens when you put these two not-so-apex predators up against one another? A lucky bike rider managed to capture this rarely-seen confrontation on tape while at River Legacy Park in Arlington, Texas.

As you can see in the video, the bobcat quickly assumed the dominant role and slowly but surely pushed the coyote (and the biker) out of its way. This cat may be small, but as one commenter noted, “Bobcats have the heart of a lion.”

Hiker stumbles upon massive snake pit while hiking

Tue, 05/19/2015 - 10:44

For those of you who know our Editor in Chief, Chester Moore, you would know this is something he would absolutely love to stumble upon.  For the rest of us, the thought of coming across this many snakes in one place could be terrifying.

Check out this video that a Canadian hiker posted on Live Leak.  It seems to show the hiker come across a huge pit of Red Garter Snakes.  Instead of running for his life, the man decided to shove a camera into the pit and check it out.

Most snakes don’t usually gather in large numbers.  The Red Garter Snake, however, is an exception to this rule.  Often times they typically come together in large quantities during their mating season.

The video is awesome, check it out below:

Mon, 05/18/2015 - 12:51

Few firearms are as well-known as the Glock pistol. Their ease of use, high capacity, and affordability has made Glock firearms nearly ubiquitous among both gun owners and law enforcement agencies across the globe.

Experts: recent rains end worst of years-old Texas drought

Fri, 05/15/2015 - 12:59

DALLAS — Recent heavy rains have helped Texas emerge from the worst of the years-long drought.

The U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday indicated Texas, for the first time since mid-2012, is no longer in the “exceptional drought” category. That’s the most dire of five drought designations on the weekly map by federal agencies.

The drought has ravaged parts of Texas since 2011. Sections of the state were still listed Thursday as abnormally dry or in moderate, severe or extreme drought.

The Houston area received more than 10 inches of rain this week. Corsicana last weekend was doused with 11 inches of rain.

Drought-stricken Wichita Falls reports lakes that help supply the city’s water continue to rise due to recent storms. Combined levels for Lake Arrowhead and Lake Kickapoo topped 50 percent Tuesday.

Scientists Discover First-ever Warm-blooded Fish

A new study by scientists at NOAA Fisheries has revealed the world’s first fully warm-blooded fish, but it is not a newly discovered species. In fact, the fish is one that is already well-known to anglers—the opah, or moonfish as it is commonly called.

In a press release on Tuesday, NOAA Fisheries confirmed that the opah circulates heated blood throughout its body much like birds or mammals, albeit at a much lower temperature…

Video: Florida Couple Reels In Giant Grouper from Shore

Wed, 05/13/2015 - 17:35

A lucky couple fishing at the beach in Sanibel, Florida got a shock when they hooked a massive 300-pound goliath grouper last month. Catching such a large grouper from shore is a relatively rare occurrence, and witnesses said it took the anglers about an hour to reel the beast in.

“You would never expect that in a surf situation. You don’t catch fish like that by casting in to the surf,” Taylor Buckley, a local angler who watched the catch, told WRAL TV…
