Field & Stream features woman on cover for first time in 30 years

Wed, 04/16/2014 - 07:51

Field & Stream featured a female on their cover for the first time in 30 years. Eva Shockey, the costar of the Outdoor Channel’s “Hunting Adventures,” was featured alone and standing with her bow on May’s cover of “What’s Next,” an issue that offers predictions on the future of hunting and fishing. Aside from Queen Elizabeth, Shockey is the only other woman to be appear solo on a Field & Stream cover since it was first introduced in 1895, Field & Stream reports.

The “What’s Next” issue predicted “women will rise,” and based on the fact that the number of female hunters has swelled nearly 10 percent from 2008 to 2012, they may be right. Shockey said in her interview that she predicts even more women will join the ranks as time goes on.

Everything wrong with ‘the Matrix’ in 12 minutes or less (VIDEO)

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 19:42

I would say that “the Matrix” is a sacred cow and that even for jollies it should be left unchallenged, but you know what? The two sequels already trashed it. Is that, like, still controversial? Is there anyone left out there who keeps saying the series as a whole turned out pretty good or something?

Besides, looking back, they made a ton of mistakes with the movie. Obviously the awesome was so powerful it made them essentially non-existent, but damn, 12 minutes?

That’s actually a record for Cinema Sins. To put things into perspective, “Pitch Black” only had seven minutes of mistakes.

Arsenal announcing the return of the SAM7UF underfolding AK

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 19:13

Arsenal has announced a gem of a new rifle with the SAM7UF, a premium Bulgarian-made underfolding AK. Without knocking any popular and well-proven underfolders, it’s hard to beat the quality of an Arsenal rifle. With this underfolder you don’t sacrifice fit or finish in order to get the iconic folding stock.

The SAM7UF expands on Arsenal’s SAM7 family of AR-pattern rifles. The underfolder is made using the same proven hot-die forged and milled receiver, chrome-lined hammer-forged barrel, mil-spec components including the reinforced polymer pistol grip hand handguards.

It is fit with all the parts you’d expect on a true AK rifle, including the stainless steel heat shield, 90-degree gas block and bayonet lug. The barrel is threaded for AK-pattern 14x1mm left-hand muzzle devices. The SAM7UF comes with a thread protector installed.

Holder asks Congress for $15 million for law enforcement ‘active shooter’ training (VIDEO)

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 18:27

On the heels of the Fort Hood shootings, and at a Jewish Community Center near Kansas City, Attorney General Eric Holder is asking Congress to cut a $15 million check to fund ‘active shooter’ training for law enforcement officers around the country.

“In the face of this urgent and growing threat – when the lives of innocent people are at stake – those who stand on the front lines need our full and unwavering support,” Holder said in a video message posted Tuesday on the DOJ’s website.

“This critical funding would help the Justice Department ensure that America’s police officers have the tools and guidance they need to effectively respond to active shooter incidents whenever and wherever they arise” he continued.

Holder argued that funding to train rank-and-file officers is necessary because they are often the one’s who arrive to the scene first, well before the more highly-trained, crime-fighting operatives.

Homeowner thwarts masked machete-wielding burglar, holds him at gunpoint for police

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 18:11

Daniel Pearman was arrested after the homeowner he tried to burglarize turned the tables and held him at gunpoint.

A Tuscaloosa, Alabama, homeowner fought off a machete-wielding burglar Sunday morning and then held the crook at gunpoint until police arrived.

The homeowner and his wife were enjoying breakfast on their back porch when 21-year-old Daniel Pearman, armed with a machete and donning a mask, tried to burglarize them.

The homeowner snapped into action and grappled with Pearman, giving his wife an opportunity to flee to a neighbor’s house and call 911. The homeowner continued fighting with Pearman and eventually came out on top, Tuscaloosa News reports.

After his wife was clear of danger, the homeowner rushed into his residence, but Pearman was hot on his heels and continued demanding he turn over any valuables. When he didn’t get what he wanted, Pearman gave up and fled, but the homeowner wasn’t fin

Taking training to the Dark Side (VIDEO)

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 17:04

Zero and the Funker Tactical crew are starting a new series of training videos where they will push exercises to the limits. These are clearly not for novice shooters, or possibly even people who aren’t paid to carry guns.

Still, it’s clear that they want people to fundamentally re-think what should go into training. Even if you aren’t an operator with an eight, this should be a reminder that as a rule, we can push our own training and be better off for it.

You don’t have to put a can of OC spray in your range bag to push your own limits. Training can be more than just a few hundred rounds at a target seven yards away every few weeks; there’s shooting offhand, one-handed, dry-fire practice at home … little things that may not even come in handy directly but will make you a more confident, capable and safer gun owner.

Future installments of “the Dark Side of Training” will go up on the Funker Tactical channel.

Jury selection began this week for the trial of a Little Falls, Minnesota, homeowner who shot and killed two teen intruders in his home on Thanksgiving Day in 2012.

According to a local Fox affiliate, Byron Smith is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting deaths of 17-year-old Nick Brady and 18-year-old Hallie Kifer. Apparently the two teens, who were cousins, broke into Smith’s home through a back window and as they made their way down the basement stairs were shot by the homeowner who was armed with a rifle.

“This is about peoples’ rights, and a person who has the right to live in a free society and be in their home safely,” Smith’s defense attorney, Steve Meshbesher, said, also adding that when the teens broke into his home they took that right away fro

One of the longest serving justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, John Paul Stevens, now retired, is calling for a change in Second Amendment to limit it to militia use only.

Stevens, 93, retired from the Court in 2010 after having served 35 years in its chambers, proving himself the third longest-serving justice in history. In his time on the bench, he dissented against such high profile gun rights victories as Heller v District of Columbia and McDonald v Chicago.

“I dissented in both of those cases and remain convinced that both decisions

A message to all the snub-nose revolver haters: You’re wrong

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 15:00

The double-action revolver, much like the Wu-Tang Clan, isn’t something to muck with (Photo by Jim Grant)

Even if modern tactical trainers often overlook them, the revolver is still a force to be reckoned with. The modern revolver is a versatile tool with unparalleled reliability, fool-proof operation and the ability to chamber the most powerful handgun rounds made.

One of the most suggested, though difficult to shoot concealed carry weapon, is the timeless Smith & Wesson J-frame revolver chambered in .38 Special. Most new shooters, after their first shooting session with the pocket six-gun, declare the trigger is junk in double-action and totally unusable. They console themselves by reasoning that it’s a “belly-gun” or “contact pistol” that needn’t hit anything past arm’s length. The issues with this reaso

Part I is here.

So many Twinkies met their demise to make this video! Oh man, imagine if Twinkies were still out of production. He’d get death threats.

I mean, I’m not sure who would death-thread MattV2099 after watching this video where he’s constantly surrounded by guns, but hey, there are some pretty dumb people out there.

People get stupid when it comes to cream-filled angel food cake, that’s just a fact.

How to reload like a boss! (VIDEO)

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 14:18

Time to bust out the Snap Caps and get practicing. This is pretty much the dictionary definition of boss.

This is straight-up action movie boss.

Now I totally expect to see this in an action movie. Of course it will be in bullet time and the shell will be computer-generated, so doing it for reals is far bosser. Far more boss? Tactical as balls is what it is.

Gun maker SIG Sauer filed suit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last week challenging what it considers an inaccurate ruling on its product.

SIG claims that the ATF classified the muzzle brake designed for the SIG MPX as a silencer even though it will not “silence, muffle or diminish” the sound of a gunshot, according to court documents.

“The device is designed and intended to reduce the felt recoil of the firearm by directing the propellant gases perpendicular to the axis of the bore,” SIG argues.

The company introduced the MPX in January 2013 at the Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade show along with a line of silencers and silencer-ready firearms, meaning they’re equipped with t
